If your grain is blackish; you have nothing to lose to at least try to draw it back in with a pencil before staining. A darker stain will help to hide the drawn in better. Or a fine tip ink pen might help. I just used a burning tool with a short pointy tip on the end to draw grain into red oak. It looks decent.

What is the blue duct tape that u r using ?
Just 3M painters tape, low adhesive, so it won't pull out the wood fibers

Just wood filler / wood putty... to level the wood out before I lay in the fresh veneer.
