Im harvesting 67 days from planting. Our plants went to flower and see too early. Im taking the tallest which is not very tall I'm afraid but it will be fine. I'm harvesting before my seed heads mature for an experiment in fine fibers. The whole plot was planted very dense. It worked in making very thin stalks. Now to find out if my hunch is correct for making those fine fibers. The rest will be allowed to finish maturing so I can also collect the seed. I will process the short plants into fiber for spinning but the result this year will be short line vs nice long line like I have done in the past. I can't wait to see what you make with our little stash of flax. Watching. :)
Yes, pull from the top. Its easier. It also gives the shorter ones a few extra days to grow a little if you are harvesting early and easy to keep the long and short separate. I learned this lesson 4 years ago. Easier on the back to get the tall first. :)
I really stuggled growing these this year.. ive gathered all the seeds i could and hope to rry again. Would you consider making a tutorial on how to grow it well? And how to process it into fiber?
Had read that if pull the flax before seeds will be finer fiber. Have you noticed that? Thanks for the demo and showing the plants and pulling
