Harry Whitehead no way! 100% for me! People don't take account of hindsight with these things . Several additional factors make it a 💯 % brilliant movie for me too!
I love this film, in my all time top 5. Ever since I saw it I fell in love with it and it started my fascination with Sharks. This is one film that should NEVER be remade or rebooted.
Best scene in all of moviedom is hands down Robert Shaw's Jaws USS Indianapolis speech. I go to the big screen showing every summer at the theater just to watch it. Will never get old.
Even though I already knew these 7 facts about the film (I've been a huge Jaws fangirl since I was 5 y.o.--I'm 23 now), I still loved this video, and found it very entertaining--especially number 7!! How great would it have been to be that PA and get to go out drinking with the legendary Robert Shaw?! What a treat! 😄 Even if that PA was fired for his actions, what a great story he has!
They also forgot to add that the guy that plays En Gardner was a local and was also hired for 2 reasons: get a fisherman to play a fisherman and drink with Shaw. Also I didn’t like that they only attributed Shaw as the writer of the USS Indianapolis speech. Carl Gottlieb, Roy Schneider, John Millius, and Steven Spielberg also help write it.
so being a super fan, you obviously know that Shaw did not write his own monologue. That bit is incorrect. He edited it to some degree for brevity, but he did not write it.
If I may add one thing; because the avaibility of Bruce the shark was delayed they were forced to shoot the opening scene without it. And because of it the scene becomes even more terrifying. Not seeing the attacker adds to the fear experienced by the audience.
Yea it reminds me of GWTW when they had to start shooting before they found Vivian Leigh to play Scarlet. So they did that burning of Atlanta scene with a fill in and it was one of the movies greatest scenes.
Not true Im afraid. Bruce was never intended for any of the beach attack scenes. They went to schedule. They DID plan to use an electric winch for the first attack but Susan Backlinie preferred manpower as it was safer. Susan was never scheduled to appear with Bruce. Nor did she break any ribs etc. Much more of Bruce was intended to be used for the ocean hunt but not for the beach attacks. The shark was hidden by design.
Awesome episode people... Jaws set the standard for all movies that wanted to aim to be blockbusters. And kudos to Spielberg for his cinematic creativity during a very difficult shoot! 😎
to me Jaws is timeless. Even without cell phones, cgi, etc I think it still holds up. I'm so thankful for no remake. I enjoyed all 4 jaws films, with the first 2 being my fave. 3rd, I felt was for money and trying to keep it going. 4 I felt was just to wrap it up and closure.
I was a teen when Jaws was released in 1975,,,so I went to see it twice!!! I also read the book that Summer,,,which was very interesting! I think that they did an excellent job with the Movie!!!
Shaw's first take of the Indianapolis speech, he was drunk and he did it horribly. He thought he could do it after a few because in the scene, they were all drinking. Mortified, he called Spielberg and asked for another chance. The next day, he did it on the first try. If that scene doesn't give you goose bumps...you have no soul. It's horrifying to think that actually happened.
I heard a rumour that there was an idea behind doing a Jaws prequel about Quint that showcases the Indianapolis incident. It would show us why & how he became a shark hunter.
Re: #3 -- Good for Benchley! He understands that movies aren't novels. They don't directly translate. Image is a fundamentally different form of communication than text.
2:17 NO! The reason they shot it at Martha's Vineyard was because the ocean floor was consistently 30 feet deep, allowing the "Shark Platform" to work.
+ryanmahon1 I agree. I keep asking on here with no response, but a while back they all said this channel was done, wtf happened...? Did they fire everyone but Clint and pretend they were shutting down?
Jaws 2 was cool and 3 was at least entertaining... I consider Jaws 3 the best bad shark movie of all time. That's saying something since there's so many of them
Spielberg definitely reached out during production to fellow USC mate John Milius to pen the unforgettable Indianapolis monologue. That sequence is absolutely drenched with the Milius touch. That man could write the manliest dialogue like no other man on Earth.
"the location they found where if they were far enough out from shore, he could turn the camera in any direction and not see land". That would be true anywhere in the ocean two miles out. You're missing a key part of the equation- the shallows around Martha's Vineyard extend out far enough into the ocean that they could put the tracks for the shark on the ocean floor AND not see land.
My girlfriend and I are both BIG movie fans, an Jaws is her favorite movie so we've seen enough behind the scenes information to boarder on the point of actually being researchers on the topic, and I still don't know a couple of things in list. Whatever nerds you have locked in a dark room somewhere that are coming up with this stuff may actually be magicians. That said... The Shaw stories isn't 100% accurate, or at its contested by other sources. The stuff I've seen/read before is that Shaw convinced Spielberg that he should "have a few drinks" before the USS Indianapolis speech to be more authentic, but the guy was such a well seasoned whiskeyman thatn in about 45 minutes time he managed to kill an entire 1/5th of scotch before anyone could stop him and that the footage was "completely unusable". The next day he came in stone sober and nailed it on the first take. Whether some of the original footage was included or not is a plausible situation and seems reasonable to me, but Shaw didn't just show up hammered on _that particular day_, he actually got permission first. You guys also missed a trick by not mentioning the cameraman or director of photography screaming "F*ck the boat! Save the cameras!" when the Orca started to go down and literally throwing them to personnel on another boat... haha :) (Roy Schneider tells this story in some interview "somewhere"... Can't remember which one... It's the same documentary where Dreyfus talks about banging half the young women in the entire town during filming). So... My Jaws nerdgasm aside, excellent video, folks.
It's Roy Scheider by the way, no "n". I remember this after trying to convince my highschool bus driver that he looked exactly like him, only to realize years later I had been calling him "Schneider" the whole time.
TheNoFlinchGrinch So he claims. The story he told was plausible... He said that filming a "big" Hollywood movie in a small town in the middle of a hot summer brought in groupies is from the entire east coast and he wasn't shy about taking advantage of that situation. His claimed that young women were basically throwing themselves at him and the combination of his part being somewhat limited and all of the delays because of the mechanical shark gave him plenty of time to party.
TheNoFlinchGrinch I don't know if I would have done anything much different in his situation. It's not like he was prowling back allies or something. It's also worth mentioning that when he told the story he was about as gentlemanly as possible. It didn't come off like bragging or anything. He just found himself in the situation of having an usually enjoyable summer.
Stephen Spielberg was genuinely terrified at the end of production. He didn't just think he'd destroyed his career; he was scared he was going to get sued too.
I have watched everything about this movie and was expecting top know every one of the seven things. I actually knew about two or three of them. Really well researched guys. Great video.
If they hadn't made the movies, sharks wouldn't be an endangered species, which is why Benchly always regretted writing the book and letting them make that movie
Yeah, the shark populations, especially the Great Whites, were devastated after this movie. Every pathetic nut with a boat went shark hunting to score ego points from the immature public. Something like 70% of Great Whites were killed for fun, etc. No apology from Spielberg or actors about this. Now they're killed for their fins for soup for rich, uncaring snobs. Alex in Montana
Another thing about the Orca sinking. When they were going down, Robert Shaw got himself organized, tightened his tie and prepared to go down like a gentleman
Thank you for reminding movie goers of the challenges of special effects before CGI. The fortitude of the directors and writers and the sometimes doubtful support of producers brought us som true cinematic gems.
Steph V.D. Actually, on the 30th anniversary DVD, Spielberg, Dreyfus and Scheider said they didn't not get along, Robert Shaw was just very competitive. He was also drunk a lot on set, most notable his famous speech.
Hold up didn't John Milius write the Robert Shaw speech?? Heck even Spielberg has said that was how it was, yes Shaw edited down a much longer speech but it was Milius who came up with the original!!
right up there with the best horror movies of all time. I know what your thinking it does not get you hiding behind the sofa but lets be honest who goes on holiday to a beach look at the sea and think of this movie then think well maybe i will go in later to the sea that is. To be honest for this film to keep so many people out of the sea still to date is unbelievable from fearing shark attacks.
That's true. As it was explained in this video clip, most of the "presence" of the shark was unseen. We all knew the shark was nearby. It worked well because of good acting and fast editing that put the fear in us.
I thought the same. I would imagine that they wouldn't get into this position in the first place anyway. What with health and safety being what it is nowadays, surely the camera would have to be waterproofed.
I would like to see a part two of this video. Very interesting facts about this movie. Most of the things mentioned in this video i did not know about. Keep up the good work
This video released on my birthday. According to box office mojo, some sort of wide release of Jaws happened on that day in 1975 (the og release was June 20). Jaws, along with being one of my favorites of all time, is the film that caused my interest in the film industry and screenwriting. Coincidences are fun.
Why didn't we see the scene where "Clint" died? its like, the best scene in the film and I quote from mah bro "when that much blood comes out of dome fellas' mouth, their f- uh, screwed."
While Robert Shaw did in fact write the final dialog for the USS Indianapolis scene, it was an abridged version of dialog written by John Milius, whom Spielberg approached when he felt there needed to be a rationale given for Quint’s hatred for sharks. Other examples of John Milius contributing to films without being credited include his work on the script for “Dirty Harry” (he even wrote the famous “did I fire six shots, it only five...” line), and his recommendation to bookend “Saving Private Ryan” with the Normandy Cemetery sequences in another collaboration with Spielberg.
I hate it so much when people say "I don't like Jaws because the shark looks fake". That is an awful excuse not to like such a great and classic film. Can you not forget about the appearance of the shark and appreciate the atmosphere for just 130 minutes?
JAWS still scares me that much that even age 40 I can't watch it without shitting myself. I'm more scared of it now then I think I ever was. What a movie.
Jaws is like those great albums from the 70's such as Rumors, Bat Out Of Hell, Boston & Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. There are no bad songs. With Jaws - there are no bad scenes. It's perfect..
@@Scoldy_ There are 9 kills (the two photographers, the women in the boat, the killer whale, Eddie, Marge, the pilot of the helicopter and the shark) while there's 8 in the first Jaws (Chrissie Watkins, the dog on the beach, Alex Kintner, Ben Gardner, the guy on the boat, the tiger shark, Quint and the shark). There are more deaths in the sequel than in the original.
Well me and most others wouldn’t count animals or anything not human. So seven kills (I always forget about the two in the beginning because not much is shown). Also, the first didn’t need a lot of kills, it was great with a small body count. The only really important death was Quint. Jaws 2 also does well like that, but because of its sequel status most would want more kills. My opinion still stands though, I like Jaws 2, a lot. Personal opinion, the shark in Jaws 2 has my favorite shark death, the original is awesome but I love how gruesome and out there the 2nd is, it shows a lot of destruction. (one of the only times electrocution in horror movies was done well in my opinion)
You'd be lying if you mention the actress who played Chrissy. Both Susan Backlinie and Spielberg confirmed that she was never in pain and didn't break any bones while she was being dragged in the water.
ONLY thing that I DIDN'T KNOW was the part about Robert Shaw being drunk on set and in particular during the speech on the ORCA. He was one GREAT actor.
If you guys want to know more Jaws facts I recommend reading the Jaws Log, written by one of the crew members about the making of the movie all the way through production. These facts here are just the top layer of this... trifle of facts about this movie!
Can you guys do a 7 Things You (Probably) Didn't Know About Swingers? I'm a huge Jon Favreau & Vince Vaughn fan and think it would be amazing to find out some facts about there second movie together where they were both the lead I didn't know!
There is a Milius documentary where Spielberg says John Milius gave him the whole speech over the phone. I trust him rather then CineFix (sorry, still love you guys).
Maybe someone can answer this trivia question for me: Before Quint tells his Indianapolis speech, right after the scar talk, you can see him tuck his shirt in and zip up his pants. Was there a deleted scene or something?
I gotta say, it's kinda cool how so many mistakes and malfunctions ended up making this into such iconic/ great movie.
One of the best movies ever. The fact it has a 8/10 on IMDb is crazy. Jaws is near perfection
It IS the best movie ever
There's always one guy
The hokey shark is the only flaw. But, for 1975, they did the best they could. The movie, to me, rates a 99.8% perfect movie.
Harry Whitehead no way! 100% for me! People don't take account of hindsight with these things . Several additional factors make it a 💯 % brilliant movie for me too!
Bruce Forrest it's scary as hell. I was freaked and I wasn't anywhere near the ocean.
I love this film, in my all time top 5. Ever since I saw it I fell in love with it and it started my fascination with Sharks. This is one film that should NEVER be remade or rebooted.
Jaws is 40 years old! Damn I'm getting old. Never the less, the movie turned out great, and I still go swimming in the ocean.
The fact that Robert Shaw didn't get an Oscar nom for this performance is a travesty.
Amazing in The Sting also.
Best scene in all of moviedom is hands down Robert Shaw's Jaws USS Indianapolis speech. I go to the big screen showing every summer at the theater just to watch it. Will never get old.
Totally agree!
Indeed he wasn’t just amazing as his character his scenes were iconic.
He was one of my favorite actors. He was an absolutely awesome character actor.

There's always people like you that like bad movies for some reason. Jaws 2, 3 and 4 are trash.
What do you mean "even without cell phones." Hell ALL movies were better without modern technology especially horror movies.
I liked 1 & 2...3 made me laugh and 4 was just terrible.
Another thing is that when the Orca was sinking, a sound guy shouted out "F**k the actors save the sound department!!"
Yeah I heard about that, thats awesome.
Nobody cares about the sound department on set, I can tell ;)
Maxx McGee - ImpactStudios Correction, No one cares until they need them. ;)
+Jacob Schmidt "waiting on sound"
Jacob Schmidt u
Jaws is my favorite movie and will always be.
I was a teen when Jaws was released in 1975,,,so I went to see it twice!!! I also read the book that Summer,,,which was very interesting! I think that they did an excellent job with the Movie!!!
number one was the best one and no one can beat how fantastic it was yes they had other film shark film but no one can beat this one

" I can't take this abuse much longer "
Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies
Front, bow! Back, stern! If ya don't get it right, squirt, I'll throw your ass out the little, round window in the side!
Show me the way to go home, I'm tired and I wanna go to bed...
We're gonna need a bigger boat.
Man, that clint scene where he's actually dead drunk (half the time), is one of the best scenes ever.
QUINT.
+Joshua Burnette Pardon me, yes Quint :)
plz be careful about names... and yes, my real last name is Quint
Szminsky
Quint!
Gillian Chillman-Black
Na, I'll stick to Clint
Jaws's nickname was Bruce? Like the shark from Finding Nemo.
Yes - the shark in Finding Nemo (Bruce) is named for the mechanic shark(s) in Jaws.
Bill T this is much more useful than whatever they blathered on about in this video.
I knew he was called Bruce, but what blew my mind was I didn't know Spielberg named him after a lawyer :O
how do you know that?
Nostalgia kid Named after Steven's lawyer.
Are you sure those producers aren't the muppets on the balcony?
Lolololololololololol
+SpareBl00d
(Face palm)
Waldorf and Statler are the names of those Muppets. 😂😂😂
bobunitone I was sure I wasn’t the only one who thought that!
Henson molded them after those 2...

This is one of the best TH-cam channels. Just wanted to let you guys know that.
Hear hear
Except they keep firing their personalities. I hate the turnover at this Channel
+ryanmahon1 Agreed!
+
+ryanmahon1 I agree. I keep asking on here with no response, but a while back they all said this channel was done, wtf happened...? Did they fire everyone but Clint and pretend they were shutting down?
One mistake that I really caught, and that is that John Milius wrote the Indianapolis speech. But it was too long; so Robert Shaw edited it himself
It was a group effort by like 5 people, really.
I can't stop thinking "LAND SHARK"....Damn you Saturday night live.
"Robert Shaw was a pretty legendary party animal. I mean, the guy could drink!"
Like a...fish?
The true beauty of Shaw was that he tormented that pompous little twat dreyfuss on a regular basis. 😃😄
Really, ❤ Robert shaw from Russia with love, James bond
Howard Sackler, Carl Gotlieb, and Robert Shaw all contributed to the USS Indianapolis Speech. Boom. Bonus thing you didn't know.
This makes me want to watch this movie...time to dig out the bluray.
I just want to say this is basically like free film school, and I love it! Thanks for the content, keep up the good work.
So, no Jaws 19: This Time is Really Really Personal?
You're right Jaws is the Only one that matters. The others are a waste of film, time & money. More please!
Jaws 2 was cool and 3 was at least entertaining... I consider Jaws 3 the best bad shark movie of all time. That's saying something since there's so many of them
47 Meters Down is a pretty good movie.
Fire Wolf anyone know a good shark movie that’s like jaws ( besides jaws 2 or 3) ?
"..there was no CGI.'' - wasn't it wonderful?
Spielberg definitely reached out during production to fellow USC mate John Milius to pen the unforgettable Indianapolis monologue. That sequence is absolutely drenched with the Milius touch. That man could write the manliest dialogue like no other man on Earth.
But Robert Shaw worked it over. Milius draft was far too long anyway.
What I’d really like to know is where I can get one of those anchor pattern gray sport coats Mayor Larry wore.
Hey, Bruce did his job well enough for Steven to get every shot he wanted. So there.
today Spielberg would've been fired and that's why the movie industry sucks now.
Well... this is not quite accurate! if it was now, he would never been fired... cause it's Spielberg!!!
The movie industry is being run by a bunch of morons.
I cant wait for the inevitable remake Paramount will probably make in the near future
Sarcasm.
No, dudes, talk about Jaws 2! Screw 3 and 4, but talk about 2, PLEASE!!!!
it's the only good sequel
yeah... yeah it is, the other movies suck ass...
Coffee Ninja Jaws sequels.
Coffee Ninja Jaws sequels
2 is a good film
Great video dedicated to one of the best films of all time. Well done!

your*
Stephen Spielberg was genuinely terrified at the end of production. He didn't just think he'd destroyed his career; he was scared he was going to get sued too.
I showed my teens this old movies. They loved it. It was made 40 years ago for crying out loud!
PS It made me afraid to swim…………..in the pool!
I freaking love this channel, thank you for its creation!!!
" a whhaaaatttt? "
Lol
A tiger shark!

"Got a big mouth Pratt!!"
I think it’s a McKo
I have watched everything about this movie and was expecting top know every one of the seven things. I actually knew about two or three of them. Really well researched guys. Great video.
Minor correction:
Quint harpooning barrels to the shark is something that happens in the book, but in the book the barrels are made of wood.
From a guy who grew up in the 70's and thought he knew this movie ...I just love this channel....Hail to Tasty Hoots!!!
Bleeping curse words in Jaws is blasphemy.
Best movie of all time. I have flashbacks every year i go on holiday and swim in the sea.
If they hadn't made the movies, sharks wouldn't be an endangered species, which is why Benchly always regretted writing the book and letting them make that movie
I regretted reading the book. It was terrible, maybe because it was years after I saw the film, which I love.

Steph V.D. Actually, on the 30th anniversary DVD, Spielberg, Dreyfus and Scheider said they didn't not get along, Robert Shaw was just very competitive. He was also drunk a lot on set, most notable his famous speech.
Dreyfus doesn't like anybody!
Thats not true. They were great friends and went to lunch every day on the set
Yes, part 2 for JAWS, PLEASE.
You should do stand by me since its it 30 year anniversary in August
Saw the World Premier.....best movie experience EVER👍🏼👍🏼
Hold up didn't John Milius write the Robert Shaw speech?? Heck even Spielberg has said that was how it was, yes Shaw edited down a much longer speech but it was Milius who came up with the original!!

Another problem the production team had with the three mechanical sharks was the salty sea water that kept eating away at the cable wires.
They switched them with hydraulics but it still didn't work well.
That's true. As it was explained in this video clip, most of the "presence" of the shark was unseen. We all knew the shark was nearby. It worked well because of good acting and fast editing that put the fear in us.
Janet Craft And let's not forget the music. Scariest two notes in history
Guns-O 12 It sure is.
Love Jaws. Forever an eternal masterpiece. In 2120 people will be here reading our comments and they will agree with us.
AHHHHH...I LOVE YOURE CHANNEL GUYS!! Please, please, PLEEEAAASSSEEE keep up the amazing work y'all do
I'm glad I had the opportunity to see this film in theaters Monday night. And it's scarier seeing it in on the big screen!
I remember going to see it when it came out ( i was 7). It's even scarier when you're 7 !!
I was 12. My mom didn't want me to see it. I went with some friends anyway. I had nightmares for a week. My mom was really pissed about that.
Love this! More Jaws facts pleeeeaaaaasssee :D
If they shot it on dslr's or pretty much any solid state media (definatly sd cards) they totally would have been able to recover it all too...
I was thinking just that. SD's are nigh indestructible.
I thought the same. I would imagine that they wouldn't get into this position in the first place anyway. What with health and safety being what it is nowadays, surely the camera would have to be waterproofed.
Even cell phones tend to be fine after you let them dry.
I would like to see a part two of this video. Very interesting facts about this movie. Most of the things mentioned in this video i did not know about. Keep up the good work
Sir, you have a beautiful voice!

bunnybee 98 because it doesn’t exist. There was no Clint in the movie, only Quint 🤷🏻♀️

You guy should do an episode about the Ocean's trilogy
One day they will read me
I definitely want to see another Jaws video from you and yes, I would like to see Jaws 3 as well, nothing was as bad as Jaws 4: The Revenge
I love jaws
Yes! Do a part II!!!
Waiting for a second video.
I actually liked jaws 2
I liked Jaws 3 as well
I liked JAWS2 too.
Hayden Godek same. I dont understand people who dont like it. I love the long amounts of shark time and people being terrified
Good sequel and should have been the only one.
Except for that screaming girl. I wanted to feed her to the shark just to shut her up.
Andrew Watt , i know what you mean, when I saw JAWS i didn't want to get into my Swimming Pool 😄
Andrew Watt the part that got me pretty good was when the guys head came rolling out of the hole in that rowboat!
@@michaelcuff5780 Yeah it wasnt' in the book
Seriously?
Jaws is like those great albums from the 70's such as Rumors, Bat Out Of Hell, Boston & Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. There are no bad songs. With Jaws - there are no bad scenes. It's perfect..
Led Zeppelin IV. Or Physically Graffiti.
jack ryan
Aww common, Jaws 2 isn't that bad.. It's actually pretty watchable!
Yeah, it’s really good. The only problem in my opinion is the small amount of deaths.
its good right up to the end where it got electrocuted when the whole audeince lauighed
The aerial photography in Jaws 2 is incredible! V good sequel..just a shame they didn't stop there!
Please do one of these videos for the Alien movies. Aliens turned 30 this month and it'd be a shame if the xenomorphs didn't get a video.
ONLY thing that I DIDN'T KNOW was the part about Robert Shaw being drunk on set and in particular during the speech on the ORCA. He was one GREAT actor.
My name is Greg and that's boom a bonus thing you didn't know
I love you guys. Keep up the great work
Make a "Whats the diffrence" on a clockwork orange
Great job guy's I love this channel. Keep up the good work.
If you guys want to know more Jaws facts I recommend reading the Jaws Log, written by one of the crew members about the making of the movie all the way through production. These facts here are just the top layer of this... trifle of facts about this movie!
Pipits owner was a guy in the movie.
God, I love this channel. Almost as much as I love Jaws.
The barrels were actually already in Peter Benchley's book. In the book, Quint threw hand held harpoons at the shark and the barrels were red.
Can you guys do a 7 Things You (Probably) Didn't Know About Swingers? I'm a huge Jon Favreau & Vince Vaughn fan and think it would be amazing to find out some facts about there second movie together where they were both the lead I didn't know!
I thought Robert Shaw's Indianapolis speech was written in secret by John Milius. Is this not the case?
Still a bloody good film NOW! No CGI back then! The 3 actors out at sea and the John Williams film score will always be good.
there's a scene where it's night and u can see what I think it's a shooting star in the background. bonus shot. ur welcome.
You say that as if I didn't see that when I was eight years old back in 1975 and saw this movie in the theater. Yes, it is a shooting star.
@Arky2012 very well spotted I did too...
I always noticed that
I wondered if it was real, or added!
@@scotthilliard7177 one was real.. one was added
I love this video. Great work.
I always heard it said that the USS Indianapolis monologue was written by John Milius. A good friend of Steven Spielberg. So which is it?
There is a Milius documentary where Spielberg says John Milius gave him the whole speech over the phone. I trust him rather then CineFix (sorry, still love you guys).
millius wrote the contribution of the monologue but Shaw rewrote part of it and edited/redid a LOT of it himself.

Maybe someone can answer this trivia question for me:
Before Quint tells his Indianapolis speech, right after the scar talk, you can see him tuck his shirt in and zip up his pants. Was there a deleted scene or something?
Jaws is like a the Apollo 13 of movies. Hollywood can we please make a stand alone movie about the making of Jaws!!??
I think they did one a couple of years ago. I only saw the trailer but can't remember the title.
Keith Webb will do... Will do.
Can you please do something on Tremors
