  • Jonathan Martinez-Garcia is now serving a 16-40-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to choking, beating and sexually assaulting a teacher inside a classroom for nearly 90 minutes. His attorney Tyler Gaston joins "Banfield" to argue that Martinez-Garcia's asthma medication impacted his mental state during the attack.

When I was on asthma meds in high school, I didn’t know that it worked on emotions and moods. I was always angry, grouchy and hyper. Later I had a nephew who was put on even stronger meds and he was very emotional, easily frustrated and sometimes broke down in tears out of anger. When he was able to wean off of them, his moods changed completely and was always kind and sweet. Drs must give these warnings to parents. Even children on cold or allergy meds can become hyper, teary, easily frustrated, angry or drowsy. Parents can either cut dosages or decide if taking meds is the best remedy for kids. They may opt for an air purifier, AC or humidifier depending on the source of the symptoms but medication is not the end all answer.

Why didn't they switch him over to Albuterol since that one doesn't have any negative emotional side effects. I've been on other inhalers except for the one they mention in this news article over the years since I was about 10 years old and none of them had any emotional effects on me and they still don't even though I'm a senior now. The only side effect I had with all of them is they made me a bit more hyperactive, but that goes away after a short while after taking the med. The teen in this news article must of had emotional issues before taking any asthma inhaler.

We are the most drugged out country on prescription drugs on the planet we use them for everything unnecessarily on the whole world does not agree with it. Us in New Zealand were the only countries in the world that legally allow advertisement of pharmaceuticals😢 we are very wrong in doing so listen to the stupid names they do because they're based on salesmanship😢 they're so lawyered up they don't worry what side effects their drugs do😢 the whole thing is sickening

Idk if it's anything like prednisone but that crap made me hyperaggressive. Also this is only going to happen more and more with kids being handed neuroleptic drugs like they're candy.

I used to be on asthma meds without knowing the side effects. It very well can make a person grouchy to the point of angry and aggressive. I wish I had known that because I had a reputation for being a grouch in high school while I was on it. I also had a little nephew who was on even stronger meds and he was emotional and easily frustrated. He’d break down, pout or even cry when he just lost his temper.
