- One of my favorite shows growing up was the A-Team. I mainly remember a black van with a red stripe but in this reality the van has always been two tone. In the 1983 show it had grey on top of the red stripe and black on the bottom. Please vote by thumbing up the video if you remember an all black van and thumbing down the video if you remember a grey and black van.

It was all black, with some red in it. That's what the 80's were all about was black and red, like KNight Rider, black with a red light.
I remember getting that little 4x4 van toy as a kid and thinking, 'Why is it grey on top?'
Maybe it was the shitty TV's back then, but I always thought it was all black.

The van was ALL black. My brothers and I had a play tent in the shape of the van. We were always in the thing. We were OBSESSED with the A-Team and WWF wrestling. They were OUR LIFE!
It was NEVER a two-toned van. I LOVED the A-Team. Watched it every chance I could. It was an all-black van!
This blew my mind the other day. I felt freaking alone in this world. My European DVD BOXSET front and back cover changed too. This is really scary.
What's scary is that somewhere out there in space, an asteroid is headed directly toward Earth. Misremembering something about the coloration of a vehicle is a moot point.

lol i remember it being just black with red stripe! Someone from my town has painted their van the same colours as the Mandela effected van!! I hope they watch this video haha
At 1:26 and 7:44...those pics that "look right" are, in fact, two-tone with a red stripe. I can say that for certain because I built that van. The contrast between the two colors is more or less obvious depending on the lighting, just as it was in the original show.
Most of the older toys & replicas were solid black simply because that was cheaper to produce and most people wouldn't notice or care about the difference (myriad examples of this still exist today, from Tomy skipping a few paint apps on their "Zootopia" Police SUV to Maisto using a completely made-up vehicle to represent the "Sons of Anarchy" Ford tow truck).

This one keeps bothering me cause they still play the show on tv over here. I always watch it just to see the van and it's always 2 toned. WTF ?!? I used to watch it all the time when i was young. 100% all black van, NEVER a 2 toned van.

I was born 1982. I remember ALWAYS an all black van with red stripe. I played Blast Corps on Nintendo 64. It had cars from all the old tv shows in it. It too had an all black van with red strip and the horn was Mr T yelling "outta my way" lol

I've never seen a 2-tone van until right now. It was definitely all black to my memory. And I saw many if not all of those shows.
For a while when I was a teenager in the 80s The A-Team was my favorite show. The van was always all black with red trim for me. There never was any gray and I think I wouldn't have liked it as much if there had been.
i had several matchbox-cars and a DYI-Set for the Van. ALL BLACK.
I remember the all black with red stripe when I watched it back in the day. However when I recently began watching reruns some scenes do show two tone gray and black however its a really dark grey . The new movie van was all black and "updated" wheels and exhaust because its cheaper to make multiple vehicles for production. Aside from the fact that many of the companies that produced the parts used on the original are no longer available.

Episode 1 of the newest season of the last man on earth the A-Team van makes a cameo and it is the new version with the grey... I'm 39 years old, that can has always been black/red strip.
It did look all black to us as kids. However in the first few seasons the top half was more of a darker grey, in the last season the top became a little lighter when they built an updated van for the final season. Also look at the taillights of the van from the last 2 seasons compared to the earlier seasons. In the last 2 seasons they used an '85 GMC Vandura.
I'm an A-team fan. I watched all the episodes. This change is recent for me.
Hi Moneybags.. I have no doubt over this one! I NEVER missed the A-Team! The VAN ABSOLUTELY & WAS ALWAYS BLACK with a red stripe! I DONT EVER RECALL a two-tone van! Face's car was an all white Corvette with a red stripe!!! (I looked up Face's car / it still appears white! I am expecting a change..!).

The studio model used for shots facing the front two seats was all black I believe. That's a reason for the confusion. Also the van was covered in dust, dirt, etc. in most shots. But the show van was two tone. But it's weird, I also remember it as all black, but if you watch the shows now knowing the truth its easy to see it's two tone.

the van was black and grey. I know this because on the dvd box set, on one episode, colonel decker says on his radio: "be on the lookout for a grey and black van with a red stripe"
im sure ive read somewhere that the top of the van was too shiny and you could see reflections of the film crew in it. so they made sure it was always dirty and looked darker,
i remember it as totally black with the red stripe....never been otherwise as far as i know...it was one of my favorite series back then!¡!¡

the 80's van was two toned. at the time, like you and millions of other kids, we thought it was all black but that doesn't surprise me. remember, we were watching 20" old school tv's with standard resolution so the colour didn't show up as well. we therefore assumed the van was completely black with the red stripe. however, having watched the series again on dvd with a 65" HD TV, the van is clearly two toned. great video btw

I used to read the Mr T vs parody comics and I remember it well back in 2004.
I made a my own parody when I was 13/14 where he runs over some Daleks and the van is all Black with a red stripe.

Like look for the black van, a scarcrow with a gun, in some new country, all while listening to a song thats wrong thats being played in a movie who changed its name.
The darker grey two tone looks way better in my mind than the light grey one. But I remember all black, though I think I'm only about 98% sure on that, definitely wasn't the light two tone one though.

Read the description. That was the prototype K.A.R.R. If you are familiar with the series then you will know there was K.I.T.T. and K.A.R.R and they weren't the same vehicles.

i loved watching the ateam as a kid and i kind of remember a all black van too. i'm sure what happened was they went from all back to two toned later in the series
now that makes sense! i think many name and logo chages are due to marketing execs. example: sugar smacks in the 50's to honey smacks later to sound healthier to parents
Well, in the 83-84 season it's 2 toned. The show aired from 83-86.
I was a HUGE A-Team Fan back in the day, never saw the movie but, I'm 100% on the TV show was black with red stripe no silver Bro! We painted my friends van like the A-Team when were kids,

It was black and gray for me as a kid. Funny enough, one of the clips in your video had the two-tone van, but for a second I saw it as black and red, and then it magically lit up gray before my eyes.
Yo this is crazy, I am one minute in, but I havr had the same thought every time I have looked this up ... Always a little puzzled that there is grey when all I remember is black with red steipe. Like, I would have bet someone any money if you had asked me this question, I was sure it was all black, no grey!
They had a couple of all black vans. In one episode when the van jumps into to the lake, they pull up a 77 ford van. As a kid, I thought the a team did a quick switch, but just low budget tv. You could tell which van they were used by the interior. Sometimes it had a print shop, sometimes a photo studio, and sometimes a work area. The Corvette was rented and always different too. Targa top, coupe, convertible... Just think of every car pre-explosion. It was an new 1980s car, been when it blows up, it's always some 70's grand fury or caddy.
Part 2 -most 80s TV sucked and did not get great color contrast. That's why the Miami vice Ferrari was painted white, to look better on TV.
I grew up on the A-Team. It was a black van with a red stripe. That's right up there with the missing Matrix scenes, strapped Tin Man, and the Sally Field(s) quote.

I do remember the vans in the show, even the ones they built to wreck, were the tricolor. I had a few of the Van toys, including the big and 1/64 ERTL versions that were all black with the red stripe, and have an original AMT/ERTL A-Team Van kit that had the box art model painted in the correct gunmetal and black with the red stripe decal separating the sides, but the model itself was molded in all black and while they updated the back door, bumpers, and grill to the 80's-'92 two head light grill, they left the pre-'78 dash and dog house in place and only added the Mr.-T figure and modified the seat to fit him, there were no interior detail pieces to bring the van to propert appearances without scratchbuilding an interior.
Hey MB! I saw the A-Team van yesterday on the way home from picking up my son from work! I could hardly believe it. It was 2 toned.
When I was a kid, I had a jacket that was silver on top, black towards the bottom and it had red stripes on it. It was my favourite jacket because it reminded me of the A Team van colours. I understand the confusion though because it did look all black often on shitty tv’s. I loved the A Team. I have a model of the van that is silver and black.

Never seen the two tone b4 this video....late 80s my friends older sister boyfriend spent thousands on a replica his was also all black with red stripe....I never heard one person say yeh but the original has silver....
it was a all black Van in the a- team show. from the television show. I still believe that it was a solid lack Van.

always two tone the only major change was they went from gloss to matt due to the reflections of the crew visible in some of the driving shots. The matt finish more often looked all black due to the very dark grey top and often dirty lower half black. my issue is I always thought the stripe angled up to the spoiler further back than it actually does
i was born in 1965 and i know there was no grey on that van. why would they mess around with painting a van two tone when it would be much easier and cheaper to paint it all black considering how many they wrecked in that series.

I have dual memories on some ME's...where I remember 90% strongly one way, but for some reason I have a 10% lingering memory of the other way. Doesn't happen w/ everything, but it drives me crazy when it happens! Lol
Explanation is simple. I, like you and millions of other kids growing up watching this thought the van was all black. However, we were watching the footage on smaller lower definition tv's with questionable colour screens. Watching the series back now on dvd, it's clear that the van was indeed two tone black and grey
