    Which rally tower/fairing setup do you like better between the two in terms of airflow, buffeting, and weather protection. Does the bottom plate on the RebelX make a difference? Nice bikes! I had an '23 890R, then a '24 Norden Expedition with WP Pro, and I'm now working on a 701LR--trying to figure out Omega , Aurora ,Rade Garage, RebelX, Nomad-ADV, and whether or not to keep the factory LR tanks. Money is the lowest consideration on the totem pole. Thanks for the video.

      Thank you for taking the time to comment and sorry I missed what you were looking for. I feel the 70 one is a much better off-road motorcycle so if what you plan on using it for is 50% or greater off-road I feel the 701 is a better choice than the 890 rally. If you’re going to do 50% or more on road I would choose the 890. Hopefully that helps a little bit.

    Found you searching for this comparison. I have a KTM 1090 ADV R and man my back cant take picking that up anymore at 56 years old. I think the 890 will be my pick. I am also USAF but a military contractor at Patrick. I will be retiring soon through real estate and traveling too.

      I good luck on your retiring! Best thing that I’ve ever done. Now I’m busy selling off everything and hitting the road full-time in January! The 890s a great platform just heavier for me than the 701 but definitely more street oriented! Enjoy your travels and thank you for taking the time to comment! Cheers, brother!

    This is really helpful, as I’m researching the perfect companion for my FE501. I need something I can adventure and do longer BDR style trips on that won’t hinder off-road performance. The 890R seems solid, but so does the 701. 901 Expedition is up for consideration as well.

      Yesterday I just purchased a KTM 500. I think the 500 is the best all-around Swiss Army knife motorcycle you can have. It’s definitely a dirtbike but you can still ride on the highway although I only do 55 to 60 when I’m on the highway. As you go up in displacement like the 701 platform you still get a really good off-road motorcycle that goes down the highway at 70 pretty easy. Light enough to still pick up and ride to up on. As you go to the 890 platform, you’re starting to get more street friendly and highway friendly and I feel you lose a little bit of the off-road exhilarating ride. Definitely harder to pick up in the 500 or the 701. I will be doing another video talking about this in the upcoming week. I’m currently doing the Build on the 500 now! Thank you for taking the time to comment and I hope this helps!

      @@TRCa51the 500 is an amazing platform. The best do it all bike I’ve ridden. It’s a blast everywhere except long pavement sections. The taco moto GET ECU with traction control is a must. I’m really torn between the 701 and the 890/901. I like having a dirtbike type ride off-road and don’t want a big adventure bike in the technical stuff. I’m just curious about its pavement comfort. I want to be able to hit 1000-1200 mile trips if I needed to because the 501 covers most of anything under that.

      @@TRCa51 it really unlocks the bike. The map 1 and map 2 makes it like having 2 different bikes - map 1 is rocket mode and map 2 chokes it down and increases engine compression for the tight nasty stuff. The traction control is epic when you’re changing terrain often. Such a sweet setup and totally worth it!

      @TRCa51  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For a very long type of trip or long distance is going to be covered both street and dirt. I would say the 890 for that type of trip both of these bikes do very well on the road and on the street but how I put it to a buddy the other day the 890 is maybe 51% more street oriented for the Husqvarna would be about 51% more dirt oriented. Both very capable and wonderful motorcycles! Hope this helps! Thank you for the comment! Cheers!

      Thank you so much! I really have put a lot into building these motorcycles! The 898 has already went to its new home about an hour after this video! I really like the LC eight platform. I had a 950 super Enduro, which I really loved, and if they would’ve made that in a fuel injected version, I believe I would still have that! I really like the low and grunt that that motor makes! Nice to be able to have your 950 and a 350! That really allows you to do most all types of motorcycling! Happy new year! And thank you so much for the comment!

      Hi Kevin! 890 was a really wonderful motorcycle for me if I was still doing more street oriented travel. Of course, for the hard-core riding that I choose. I am way prefer the 701, but it’s definitely not is cruise friendly on the freeway!

    • @TRCa51
      @TRCa51  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Bang4YerBuck the shocks and forks are not the same that were on your XCW as far as I know. My rally had cone valve forks in the rear shock is a totally different layout than on the 500s. I would say definitely give the 890 adventure or a try or if you’re lucky enough to find the rally version that’s really a dream bike to own! Your last KTM was a dream bike for me. I had a 13 500 XCW St., legal and loved it! Back then it was my opinion that’s better to start off with the dirt version and add things to it then to buy the street legal version, and take things off of it! Great to hear from you!

    Supertall 1st gear. Many report that it stalls in slower tougher trails. Keep the Rekluse it may be something you want later. I would rig my Clake LHRB up as well. Makes many technical riding situations ridiculously easy. Let us know what final gearing ratio you end up with as that tranny spacing demands precise final sprocket size

    • @TRCa51
      @TRCa51  ปีที่แล้ว

      I will definitely keep the Rekulse as an option! So far, I feel that the gearing works for what I want to do with this bike. I thought it would be better to have more protection than less. I did have to modify them and they were first put on with 3M, double-sided, sticky tape, and then they were put on permanently with. sikaflex 291. I figured if I ever went down to be better to have more protection in that area than less.

      @JRinPG ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my opinion the 890 wins on power, suspension and chassis. 701 wins on weight and ease of picking it up or riding on extreme terrain. Tim did you get a chance to weight both? Really they are both such great bikes I think it comes down to weight of the bike and how much weight you will strap to it? On aside in my opinion the 701 platform is ideal with 40 L soft paniers set ups where as the 890 is good up to 80 L set ups. Really the rest is splitting hairs the way you set up that 701....well done build my friend & I enjoyed watching the progress.

    • @TRCa51
      @TRCa51  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JRinPG I did not have the opportunity to weigh either bike, but totally agree with you on your synopsis of which panniers to run with which bike. My plan is to travel very light and fast. Super appreciate your input. Happy New Year’s, and cheers!

    • @JRinPG
      @JRinPG ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @TRCa51 oh thats unfortunate. Whats ypur guess on weight difference? I would estimate the 701 to be about 40 to 50 lbs less weight after the upgrades.

    • @TRCa51
      @TRCa51  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There’s 121 pounds wet weight difference between the two motorcycles. With a 701 I know I lost at least 12 pounds just with replacing the exhaust but of course I’ve added a navigation tower and two side tanks, which are relatively light and wait for the size. I’m just gonna go ahead and guess there’s at least 100 pounds difference between the 890 rally and my 701 rally build. Really noticeable, even moving the motorcycles around.

      @JRinPG ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I had a 701 with an Aurora kit and an 890R. The 890 does everything the 701 would do but is more stable and easier to maneuver in tight quarters although slightly wider, the steering lock on the 701 was horrible making it a bitch to turn around in a tight spot or navigate thru tight trees. Not much difference picking them up although I'd be more likely to venture off alone on the 701 in extreme technical situations. 890 is worlds better on pavement. I got rid of the 701 and don't ever think about it since the 890 is as good or better in almost all situations.

I’ve self funded building, my big truck, Oscar Mike, and had some help with my inheritance halfway through to finish the vehicle at what I would call a world-class level. The first trip out was in June to July 5 For 30 days at Newport Dunes! I came home and put all of my tools from my fabrication and machine shop up on craigslist, and sold off at least half of the shop in about five weeks!
