  • Tom Morello stopped by Google LA to talk about his remarkable career from Rage Against The Machine to Prophets of Rage to his new album, The Atlas Underground, the most ambitious artistic effort yet by one of the greatest guitar players of all time. By challenging the boundaries of what music is and has sounded like before, Tom is living proof of the transformative power of rock'n'roll.

He is the best on so many levels with his advice on how a person can have fulfillment success/creating their own music that they enjoy. Love listening and learning from Tom Morello. True human and one of the most innovative guitarist of all time.

Tom along with Jimi Hendrix, Robert Fripp and Kurt Cobain were great guitar experimenters. All of them had a knack for finding unique sounds via their instrument. Obviously there's more players like this but they were the first names that came to mind.

There is nothing more motivating than hearing about Tom Morello’s and Adam Jones’ horrible show in high school (BTW Adam Jones on bass - it explains a lot about his playing style!). These guys are like one of the most influential guitar players of their generation who were/are in the greatest bands the heavy rock scene has ever seen.

I won't assume Morello was the only one advocating for those bands that got nominated, but three cheers for Tom!
there is a super-funny irony at one point here that I cannot believe nobody else mentioned yet.
it will be stand up comedy gold at some point in the future.

I'll be honest, I've seen RATM a bunch of times , thrashed to their music in various venues , bars and shows, both live and obviously in "juke box mode" , and the amazing discovery in all of this: I confess as a guitarist and musician, I somehow over all the years failed to focus on Tom Morello. In fact I can't remember every seeing an interview with him . Had all of their CD's , my band back in the day did a few RATM covers, and I realized above and beyond how talented, innovative , and intelligent , he is, how the F did this disconnect happen ! So we have our faves... Page, Rhoads, Malmsteen, Blackmore, Satriani , Vai, etc etc etc ...This isn't the debate about who is the best, who was the most influential. They all are in their own right , style , and purpose . But I find the origins of these guys fascinating . Tom Scholz / Boston ... Tom holds a bachelors and masters from Mass Inst of Technology . Most of the guitar , bass and keyboards on their debut album were done by him. Invented the Rockman, and their debut album was the the biggest selling debut album up to that time . Brian May / Queen ... astrophysicist , and helped drive Queen to their accomplishments and notoriety . Jimmy Page, a suburban brit academic whose guitar was confiscated every day he brought it to school.I mean I don't have to carry on about Page. He's a LEGEND . and Tom Morello... Harvard , politically motivated, total genius , cool, though provoking , funny, and yet again, totally influential . Shame on me for the miss . I'm going to watch his MasterClass .
Btw, the interviewer's shirt . Love it . It's the Carpenter's font done in a John Carpenter movie theme album cover , "They Live". An Almost cult classic , horrible acting movie that I've watched too many times .
    Tom you rock!

@@Ori0987 It does but not through your phone speakers. The cymbals and the distortion just don't go well together with those speakers. With headphones though I find the self titled to be one of the best sounding albums especially the remastered songs.
