It’s worth noting Ben Askren’s never been considered a “striker” meaning his fighting style doesn’t use many punches. He’s a grappler, preferring to wrestle his opponent down to the ground and use submission moves or chokes to knock out his opponent. While he’s a very accomplished mma fighter his skill set translates in a uniquely bad way to boxing compaired to other ufc fighters of his caliber. That being said I still think it’s rigged because he should know how to defend punches better than that even if he doesn’t know how to throw them, and he’s clearly capable of taking more punishment than that.

The Lawler argument also is thrown out the window bc that beating happened on the ground and while lawler was getting great full extensions not as much force (in this instance of how they're positioned) can be put into those punches compared to someone on their feet.

The Lawler fight was the 1st time he took that much damage in a fight. By that point, he signed to the UFC too late into his career. The Jorge Masvidal fight was the one that changed everything. ben went up 20 lbs from his fighting weight originally, is a wrestler through and through not a striker (one of if not the worst striker in his division period at the time), had just had a hip surgery before training, and was retired from the ufc. he was happy and smiling after bc he made a cool million dollars and was fighting for nothing, the Masvidal fight was very different from this since if he won that he was looking at a chance for the belt in his weight division, and their beef while most ufc beef seems kinda reality tv esque i'm 99.5% sure they actually hate each other. love your content but as someone that watches a good amount of ufc this outcome was very much on the table from the jump. The Lawler argument also is thrown out the window bc that beating happened on the ground and while lawler was getting great full extensions not as much force (in this instance of how they're positioned) can be put into those punches compared to someone on their feet.
