My best friend died here, in China, he had a massive stroke. he had a Chinese wife, 20 years living here and working every day of it. His gravestone says 'Husband of Shen **' couldn't put his actual name on the gravestone, foreign names are against local regulations, 30 kilometres from world class city Shanghai!!!! So, contribute 20 years of of your best work to a country and finish up in what is effectively an unmarked grave.

That being said, not that I like this way, I just know that it is what is going to succeed. We are only nice because history is written by it's victors. Cat doesn't care either about suffering of mice, but it's a very succesful creature, because as a human being you know it can't dissapoint you, and it reminds you of the weakness caused in our social nature. I pity our dog because it cares about us, knowing I can do nothing to back up such loyalty. My family always wanted to be a cat because we knew from young age the writing was on the wall.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having an extremely selective immigration policy. There is nothing wrong with preserving your nation. On this issue China is spot on. Chinese people see Western nations committing suicide by immigration and they want no part of it. Good on them. The people who left China for other countries are not the same people as the Chinese who don't want foreigners in their country. There is no hypocrisy. Other countries are justified in excluding Chinese by reciprocity if they so choose. But the Chinese are 100% entitled to set their own immigration policy.

In fact, my impression is that most Chinese people’s knee jerk reaction is to justify and excuse such vile rhetoric because of history, or because of lack of exposure to foreigners, or what not, and to just explain it away as lack of politeness and self-control.

Years ago when I tried to work in the US I was told that jobs had to be given to Americans but back in Paris where I lived there were many Americans in my profession , living easily and happily so why is this ? When I tried to marry a Brazilan boyfriend and live in Brazil the embassy refused saying that I was only doing this to profit from the Brazilian social system ( which hardly exists ). If u don’t like them, think they don’t know what they are doing, and they don’t even welcome you, then don’t go into their country, why are you even inside china earning their money in the first place, Winston? And while you’re there earning their money, u even criticise them for doing things wrong and TRY TO TELL THEM WHAT TO DO? Same thing with asians immigrating into western countries. People are usually more supportive to people of their own race unless money plays a factor. And I am an Australian born chinese. We can’t just come into Australia and expect to be accepted for the best jobs (that westerners have always had in the first place, obviously they will try their best to hold onto their power) and receive the best treatment. I accept that westerners inside Australia can continue working the least and earn the most. Meanwhile we asians work more hours and still get paid less but that’s just how it is. We come into Australia knowing westerners hold top power. They know the best for their country and Nobody wants to lose power. We can only play by their rules and live in accordance to what they say. Same thing with westerners living inside china. I know multiple westerners who only went to china to teach English because they couldn’t find a job in Australia and were living on government welfare so they were really left with no options than to deal with discrimination inside china. As a chinese, my family will consider to move back to china in the future. Don’t try to change others to fix your own problems, change yourself.

There was NEVER any racism among us when we grew up together. Often we would wonder how smart they were academically. Yes there is betrayal in a few, primarily because they were christians. I despise the CCP, I don’t much like Chinese culture and a lot of the people, who I often find to be very rude (I live in the greater Vancouver area, so there’s plenty around) but I wish the west would adopt their immigration system, it makes a lot more sense than America’s visa lottery and shit like that.
As for the people’s response to the proposed immigration reform, it’s their country, if they don’t want to let people in thats their business. They’re being mean about it, but it’s still their business.
In their case it’s a little silly though, given how huge the Han Chinese super majority is. They’re not exactly in danger of being replaced by a few tens of thousands of immigrants a year.

Very well articulated. A gigantic country with 1.4 billion people will not fall to its knees because a few thousand foreigners move in ... and those who move to China would be dotted around all over the country anyway, not just in one city ... so they wouldn't even be visible in most places.

Love the vid as always!! On the topic I may not be in the know about this but it seems like the people of China don't actually know what racism really is. Is that right? As far as take take take and no give I think thats there upbringing. Most of the younger people parents didn't have much and they really had to push to feed the family. So the concept of giving to someone or a causes or whatever is very foreign to them. What do you think? I could be totally wrong and if I am please let me know, you won't hurt my feelings .) I see it as a total and complete brainwashing of its people. All most like us in the states during the cold war. Growing up everyday we had something about Russia and nukes and drills every week plus atleast one video showing a Nuke blowing up something. So I can't say our brainwashing was't there as well. I can say though through all of my travels into former Russia block countries the people were insanely nice, willing to help you even if it took time out of there day etc. So the older I got and the more I traveled I came to understand that the people of a country are not the Government of the country. Now looking back on the those years of travel long ago now I appreciate what I learned. That said my experiences with China's people leave much to be desired. But one can hope yes?

As unbelievable as it sounds, the xenophobia in China has already reached the stage as in Showa Japan or even worse. I have a Chinese friend who graduated from PKU then UPenn, now working in Austin as an Apple GPU engineer. His father took quite a beating at his workplace back in China simply because some hotheaded aholes thought he sent his son to work for foreign interests, even his boss is applying pressure trying to pull my friend back to China. These fuckers are literally trying to ruin a man's career just for their empty pride.
Things like these aren't common in the coastal provinces, at least no one's bashing my parents in Zhejiang for sending me to Canada, but shits are getting real in the northeast rust belt, where people actually blame everything on foreigners, and they'd probably start killing each other off as soon as they run out of scapegoats.

We can all be proud of our countries, sure, but when it turns to hatred of other human beings that you have never even met in your life, it's just disgusting. Extreme nationalism is pointless, because if we look at it in basic terms ... a country is just a strip of land. That's all it is. And none of us choose which strip of land we are born on, or the colour of our skin. For those who are rational and sensible, humanity comes first ... nationality second.

I feel like my way of thinking about these issues is an unusual one. It seems like the mainstream debate is between two sides: One side is people who think their own race is better and more important than other races, and they want to treat other races very unfairly, and these people want very restricted immigration into their own countries, which seems to be motivated by their dislike of other races. The other side is people who think that racial differences are only superficial, people are basically all the same, so they don’t feel any attachment to their own race, and these people want very open immigration into their own countries, a desire that seems to be motivated by their passion for showing how anti-racist they are. My way of thinking is different from both of these. In fact, I’m passionate about human rights, peace, and human happiness. I don’t want my race to rule over, abuse, or conquer other races. I also don’t want other races of people to treat my own race in such a way. I also see human diversity as being somewhat more than skin-deep. I’ve lived abroad and seen the real magnitude of cultural differences. Cultural variation is due partly to learning and partly to biological variation. Anyway, immigrants do change the culture of the places they move to. Not everyone feels a special connection to their own people and their culture, but many people do. The bonds of racial kinship, shared history, and culture are very important to many people. This is natural, and it’s not bad. My view on these issues is that I do want immigration into my country to be restricted to a moderate level, and allowing only people who speak and write our language well, have a high level of education, have good health, don’t commit crimes, and contribute positively to the economy. These are high standards, but not impossible ones. Those proposed standards in China do seem a little too high. However, the other proposed rule of allowing many low-skilled people from Africa and Latin America to do low-income jobs in China: If I were Chinese, I also would be opposed to that law; however, I absolutely do not share the racist attitudes of those Chinese commenters. I want a reasonable immigration policy that benefits my country, and I totally accept any other country doing the same. But I don’t like racism. I do like to meet people of other races and nationalities, learn about their cultures, and form friendships. So, I feel like a real outlier. I want a peaceful, fair form of nationalism that respects the rights of all people.

I do agree though cultural differences are real and too many people of the same culture, especially if they aren't interested in integration, can inadvertently cause a disconnect within the country by not integrating because they can just hang out within their group.

Yet they worked extremely hard, raised two sons who became successful citizens, who in turn had successful hard-working children of their own. By your criteria my grandparents would never have been allowed to immigrate here, nor millions of others like them, and the US would be the worse for it. We still need people who work hard, have ambition, love their families and contribute to their communities, no matter where they come from. The notion that we can satisfy our need for immigrants (and we do need them) by only allowing in millionaires from Norway is ridiculous and racist.
