    Nice!
    I wish I had this type of coaching in middle school, would've made it a lot easier.
    props to the girl for not giving up.
    She's going to be a great libero one day.

    I'm a 13YO libero and she should close her hand into a fist because having an open hand is called a lift also stay low and shuffle your feet don't stand up and walk.👌🏼🤗😊

      hannah wright no she wasn't lifting. She hit it with an open hand not lifted. Not as much control with a fist alao

    • @volleyballsizzle3536
      @volleyballsizzle3536 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      hannah wright She hit it with an open hand. If that is a lift then every hit (spike) is a lift. And in her drill she didn't have to stay low, she was getting comfortable with hitting it up.

  • @zariabarnes5631
    @zariabarnes5631 8 ปีที่แล้ว +204

    Yeah. She does need to close her hand or she will get called on a lift every time.

    • @sallyjohnson9832
      @sallyjohnson9832 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No she doesn't. If you hit the ball with the heft of your hand and spin it it is not considered a life. I'm on an 18U national team and have never been called for a lift when executing this move.

    • @zariabarnes5631
      @zariabarnes5631 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That's good to know. I play 16U and whenever I have tried this they cal a lift so I've been taught to close my hand.

    • @sallyjohnson9832

      I mean either way as long as the ball goes up and the ref doesn't blow his whistle it's good.

    I came across this video looking for libero movies and stayed to watch the exercise. I would like to offer that her left foot doesn't have to be leading for this kind of save. I have been taught to step out with my right foot if defending on my right side, so that when I swing my arm towards the ball, and through, I automatically land on my right shoulder and continue in a roll where I lift my feet and body over my left shoulder back to my feet. That way I can save the ball and am up on my feet immediately after for any next action, even pointing back towards the net.

    • @bulliam

      saving is easy if the court doesnt have rocks or any objects to scrape yourself with. You just need a solid wooden floor without splinters. Just practice your dives on every type of court because theyre all easy

    Yes doesn't she have to close her hand or it would be considered a carry

    • @Grace-zw3sq
      @Grace-zw3sq 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You can carry with a closed hand too. Carrying is the action of lifting the ball. Example: you reach your hand out and pull the ball up with your hand. That’s a carry. Sure, it’s more likely to happen with a open palm, but she can still use that as long as she makes contact.

    I am 13 years old, I also play volleyball and train in the mornings. (I'm a girl) this isn't my account. Going for a ball with one arm is completely unnecessary unless its out of her range. The balls the girl is going for are completely In range therefore she could easily layout or step outside of her body. Using one hand is basically pointless if your goal is to create an offense. In order to create good offense you have to have a reasonable pass in the beginning. That pass will usually go to target (middle front, setter position) and if you cannot get the ball at least high enough to where the setter can set the ball near the hitter. The first drill they demonstrate in my opinion isn't logical. If I am missing anything please feel free to comment back will your argument.

    • @shannonmincey3041
      @shannonmincey3041  8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      You cant train this move running all out. This moved is used on the run like seen in the video by the D1 player. A 13-14 year old can't learn this running 20-30 feet each time. This is how to train this move so when you are in a game and running for a shanked ball you will execute the form properly without getting hurt.

    • @mylifeasjen8732
      @mylifeasjen8732 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shannon Mincey My 14 yo daughter has used moved one many times to get a shanked ball back in play. It can definitely be a thing of beauty.

    • @annelisemason4037
      @annelisemason4037 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      the reason they are working with one arm is so she can have better aim with the ball so if it does go out of bounds it won't go craxy, but go closer to the setter or hitter

    • @auser8262
      @auser8262 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      george delcher The coach is tossing it near her to get her used to it. As you can see at 1:37, the ball isn't as close. Obviously if the ball was that close it would be pointless to one hand scoop it. This is training so some things are gonna be modified to make it easier to learn.

  • @crystalrivera6580

    She shouldn’t be stopping herself on the one hand dig when sliding. She should learn how to follow through with both arms when sliding if not she can damage her wrist. Also when she slides she slides on her knees (yes that is correct however) sliding on your stomach would give her more power to follow through with the ball.

    • @shannonmincey3041
      @shannonmincey3041  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes great input to all of that! I agree. Pushing through on stomach. Wrist shouldn't take the blunt of the fall.

  • @wcszbd1245
    @wcszbd1245 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't think the first guideline which requires players to put the opposite foot forward when digging with one hand is a good idea for a male, when a dive or rolling may incur afterwards, under urgent ball protection circumstances.

    If your a libero does it matter if you’re taller or shorter? I guess it’s really about agility more or less but does height change anything?

    • @haerinrz
      @haerinrz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most Liberos are the shortest person on the team (usually), because its harder for the taller player to get as low to the floor as a shorter player would. Taller players are more likely to be in a different position.

    whay does she keep falling

    • @nobi3633
      @nobi3633 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      That "Falling" is called diving in volleyball. It is sometimes necessary for the player going for the ball to get it up in the air. This goes especially for the libero players, who are commonly known as defensive specialist players. I play this position myself and I assure you, falling on the floor is something you need to do to play volleyball. Of course the falling is on purpose but I hoped this helped

    • @jennyfarson1075
      @jennyfarson1075 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Alien what you said is technically correct, however, diving is a special technique that has its special movements. One can't just fall to the side and call it a ''dive''. Yes, i play volleyball too.

    • @李新-x9p
      @李新-x9p 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      they're trying to get her to familiarize with the digging motion and movement, which is also called diving.
