  • Palestinian officials say the oppression to their people by the Israeli government will one day come to an end, as did the apartheid rule in South Africa. The South African leg of the 11th international Israeli Apartheid Week campaign was launched at Liliesleaf Farm in Rivonia, north of Johannesburg over the weekend. The seven-day campaign, which starts today seeks to raise awareness of Israel's apartheid policies towards the indigenous Palestinians. In the studio we have Bassem Eid who became a prominent figure during the Intifada, the Palestinian uprising against the Israeli occupation in the Occupied Territories in his capacity as senior field researcher for B'Tselem, the Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories. B'Tselem's reports were used by the media and international organizations, including the PLO, to highlight the human rights abuses committed by Israel. But in the meantime how is the economy affected during this conflict and how are the palestinians thriving in this political suffering and insurgency. Bassem Eid is here to tell us his views as he is visiting South Africa this week.

Not a lot of people know it, yet, but during the apartheid era in South Africa, Israel was one of the only countries in the world to actually support the black people of S.A in secret, while still managing to keep in good connection with the apartheid regime in that country. Israel cooperated with anti-apartheid Black leaders during the darkest apartheid period, inviting them to seminars and educational programs in Israel, helping build their way of some of the most influential and important Black South Africans today! Israel is not an apartheid country, and the attempt of the Arab propaganda to portray it as such, is a disgusting insult to what the black people in S.A had suffered back then.

Although your words are like a breath of fresh air, why did Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu seem so close to the PLO, Yasser Arafat and its cause? I need to know, please!
I agree with you, I am with Israel and its people (Jews and Gentiles), and it is not an Apartheid State (the situation in the West Bank could be better, it is true, but it does not seem that the "Palestinians" want to "collaborate") and it's an insult to black South Africans to compare their situation to that of Israel (it's crazy).
Thanks once again for the info.

What absolute disgusting lies. Zionists have no shame. During apartheid and the boycott of south africa by the international community israhell continued to trade weapons with south africa. They kept apartheid going longer and they doing the same thing to Palistinians

It's a pity, Israelis sabotaged whatever little progress was made here.
