😊 thank you so much for breaking down everything. I'm 56 an just learned how to do my curls I have been trying for about 2 years. You are the only one who broke down everything so now my hair is not frizzy Thank you so much
I love that you break down ingredients. Can you do a series while focusing on some key ingredients and what they do - pvp, ingredients that cause slip, flexibility vs hold? I’d love to learn how to read the ingredients before buying.
I have been watching your videos to guide me in my curly hair journey! I went from damaged flat curls to shiny tight curls! Thank you so much! The CS shine line is amazing!!
Gena, I am a mostly Curlsmith girl but trust your reviews so much I tried the Ouidad gel. NOW I get it! I have low porosity hair, so don't need proteins BUT, I LOVE it! When I take the time to properly apply on wash day, it left my hair with great hold, amazing frizz control and remarkable refresh results. When I tried the Innersense I Create Memory and must have overdone it too. I could not scrunch out the cast. So, I will lighten it up the next time! Thanks for teaching us SO much! I didn't have a clue how to care for my curls and I am now loving my thick, curly, course, low porosity curls thanks to you!
I finally used your recommended combination of Curlsmith Miracle Shield, AG Re:coil Activator Curl Cream and Ouidad Advanced Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel and I CAN’T BELIEVE how my hair came out!! It has NEVER looked SO good I can cry!! Thank you thank you thank you!! ❤❤
I’ve followed your videos for a few years now and I’ve never strayed away. LOVE your content and your hair is looking GOOOORGEOUS (always) Just please never stop 😂❤
😮Wow😮 Your curls look really good today😊 The CurlSmith Shine Gel gave you great results! You have definition & volume😮 I love that you show clips of you using the products & a shot of how they look in your hand. This is very helpful to me😊
Your looks stunning! My fave CS protein line and the hairspray both of them are great since my hair low density. Ouidad is good too. Great tutorial as always.
Update: Ulta didn't have the AG Liquid Effects! I was surprised they had all their products out except that one. Also, I think you've had many starter kit videos but in the Ulta checkout line a wavy inexperienced gal wanted to see my shopping bag for recommendations. I told her I love Curlsmith and they usually have small sizes available. But I was thinking I should have more starter products in mind to give recommendations.
Thank goodness you posted this ! Just about to go buy a gel to ease my frizz so this was invaluable. I’m in Scotland so the code you gave probably doesn’t work in the UK but I can still get a lot of these products so thank you 😘
My all-time favorite gel is the not your mother’s hard hold gel !!!! It is in my hair today and I use it every wash day! I personally like thick gels they give my hair hold and texture ( and this gel does of this for me!) As far as build up, the only time I noticed buildup is when I need to clarify, with this gel .
I'm currently pairing Curlsmith's Featherlight Protein Cream with the Curl Retainer and topping it up with the Bounce Curl Hair Spray for added hold. It's my current frizz-fighting go-to.
Love what you said about the Curlsmith Frizz line! I LOVE CS but that line was too heavy for my fine hair even though I wanted to love it. I’m hoping for a strong hold gel in that line just to see if it could work and I would LOVE LOVE a strong gel in the new volume line which is amazing. Hoping Curlsmith reads your comments 😂😂
Love your videos and the way you present them. With the massive amount of information out there you make it easy to understand. I would love to see you do a review of the following products: Virtue de-frizzing and strengthening, curl defining gel. Luv ur curls system including shampoo, conditioner, all in one curl cream, and Irish Sea moss gel in the black bottle.
Thank you for your videos! We must have very different textures because your favourites never work for me at all! I do appreciate all the work you do though, and I often post your videos to my Curly/Wavy Hair FB group!
I have really coarse, high density hair (Middle Eastern hair), and I find the thicker gels with a lot of moisture work well. The exception is Ouidad's gel. That one is AMAZING
They discontinued a favorite hair product (Redkin Outshine 01 anti frizz polishing milk) so by googling replacements I found this channel-thanks for the info!
Thanks so much for your gel breakdowns. I used to get by with light hold gels but somewhere along the way to perimenopause my hair became frizzier. I thought it was a damaged hair issue and protein’d the f$ck outta my hair with no results but the harder hold was the answer! My hair looks so much better. 😊
Agree about the Curlsmith frizz line. The shampoo and conditioner are amazing and the finishing crème is good too. But the gel is lacking. I've been combining that one and the soufflé and it's working ok for me.
Great video! The AG gel is one of my favorites. Have you tried the LOMA firm hold gel? I’m getting great results paired with the deep conditioner as a leave-in. My hair very dry and coarse.
Thank you so much, this was so helpful! Do you think if I used the Ouidad advanced climate control with the Innersense I create definition foam that could work? I need less frizz but also don't want anything too heavy!
Hi Gena! Another great video! :) Thank you so much, your recommendations are always spot on! What curl cream would you recommend pairing with the NYM Hard Hold Gel? Thanks!!
I love the AG Liquid Effects. I haven't had good luck with Ouidad, but I did try the Ouidad Advanced Climate Control Heat & Humidity Stronger Hold Gel again since you talk so much about it. My hair did look good but I didn't like how it felt in my hair so I guess the Ouidad gel is not for me. Thanks for all the great info!
Your hair is lovely! I will be going on a cruise and am unable to bring my diffuser. Can you give me ideas on how to style my shoulder length curly hair without a diffuser? Can curly hair be left to dry on its own? Thank you.
Alway excellent and informative. Don’t know how you do it all! Could you possibly address finding the right person to cut your hair? Thanks for all of your ideas.
Thank you! I wish I had answers for this, but I have never been able to find a curl specialist near me so i just see a regular stylist. I feel like I dont have enough hair to work with anyways to create a "shape" with a curly cut. I'd love to try it one day though. I would just have to travel
You couldn't be more right! My hair is a mess because I'm scared to get it cut. These people that claim to know how to cut curly hair and they are clueless.
Hi Gena. I love your channel and have put many of your ideas to use and people at work comment on how great my curls look! A while back you told us about a great hair drying towel. I'd like to purchase one or two, so if you could reply with the link, I'd appreciate it!
I really struggle with gels. My hairs feels really brittle when gel has protein and severe flash drying with aloe. I go back and forth between spiralicious which is not moisturizing enough and hydro style flexi jelly which I love on day 1 but does not have enough hold.
I absolutely love the Ouidad gel! It, by far, gives me the longest results and I find pairing it with the Bounce Curl avocado curl cream gives me my favorite results. The only thing is I find my hair feels a little too soft after diffusing and almost looks wet, but by the next day, it looks okay. Do you think pairing it with a mousse or foam would help to get some grit perhaps? And, if so, should I put it in underneath the gel or on top of it before diffusing? Hi Gena, have you tried more products from design me? I know you tried the balm but I was wondering your thoughts about the curl gel/volume mousse? Thanks💖
I have been using Ouidad anti humidity for many years. I have soft very fine hair, you recommend using a foam first to add grit. What foams do you recommend.
I have high porosity, low density, fairly thin hair. I find the lighter hold Ouidad gel often works very well on my hair; I also use some of the Ouidad stronger hold gel on the areas that frizz more. Might it help curlies who have hair like mine to know that the regular Ouidad gel might be a good option for them?
Hello! what’s the best recommendation to get a more natural (matte?) look? I recently experienced some pretty bad frizz and it made me really want to start taking care of my curls from the type of shampoo, conditioner and any after products to hold. Too many free hairs and weird strand hairs not even curling sticking out that really bothers me. :(
I’m transitioning from years of keratin and straightening back to my curly hair. I tried this 10 years ago. I live in Houston. It’s very humid. I step outside my hair falls. I have fine hair. I was looking at ouidad red label to try. But with other products I’ve tried is get anything to hold I have to hairspray then how do you get second day hair and not have to wash it every day once you put hairspray in it that’s my challenge, thank you. I’m using inner sense now. I don’t like wet or crunchy looking hair. I like it soft but it doesn’t hold without hairspray. Please help I really don’t wanna go back to straightening.Thank you
I cannot get any hold at all with Innersense! I have tried the gel and the foam with all different products and combos including ONLY Innersense line. I even talked to their customer service to trouble shoot and nothing seems to help it hold on my hair. I get pretty hair for a few hours and then it all falls. Only product I have tried that seems to consistently do this. Any suggestions? I spent a good chunk of $$ on these products and I would love to be able to use them.
Have you tried the Quidad advanced climate control detangling heat spray? I think I like it but when I tried it with a holding product I didn’t get good results. Don’t know if it was product or technique?? I have 3a coarse hair as well.
The BEST thing for frizz for me has been hemi-squalane oil! It’s a natural alternative to synthetics (silicone based and polyquats) that it turns out are not good for the environment when they wash down our drains. I was struggling with frizz because I was trying to avoid silicones and polyquats (the latter of which is in just about everything). I read about hemi-squalane and bought a small bottle with a dropper and now I just add 4-5 drops in my hand with my curl cream and even add a couple of drops with my gel too. I even put it in a spray bottle with water for refreshing my curls. (You just have to shake it well every time before spraying.) Basically turned everything I use into a frizz-control product. And, believe me, neither product was controlling my frizz before I added the hemi-squalane to it. The difference it made to my hair is astounding. It’s so easy! I don’t know why more people aren’t talking about/using/recommending it. If I was a TH-camr I’d do a video on it 😂 (Also, it washes out of the hair easily so no risk of build up)
@@monikasebren1811i keep trying to reply, but it keeps disappearing…I think because I tried to put an Amzn link to the one I bought. I don’t know that any brand is better than any other. It’s just 100% hemi-squalane oil (not to be confused with squalane…that “hemi” is crucial!)
@@katgirlblueoh I should’ve added I can’t use any other oil in my hair. My hair is so fine it’s basically like feathers 😝 So I wouldn’t even be able to put a couple of drops of other hair oil on my hands to scrunch out the crunch. I’d just have a stringy, greasy mess. But the hemi-squalane is extremely light. It’s a dry oil with a very light molecular weight. It’s the only “oil” I can use and it has made so much difference for me! Now I do have to say I haven’t tried putting it directly on my hair undiluted, I just add a few drops to my curl cream and also to my gel in my hand and when I spritz my hair for a refresh I’m using maybe 10 drops in a halfway filled water spray bottle (I don’t spray that much on my head at once though, that’s just how much I mix up at a time…and you have to shake it well just before spraying.). But I have tried putting it undiluted on my skin and it basically just absorbs instantly. At any rate, it’s helped my products become more anti-frizz without me having to use silicone- or polyquats-based ingredients. Better for the environment, better for hair, and it doesn’t give me that producty feel that all the polyquats do too. I keep trying to tell people about it and get someone to do a video on it but nobody does 😛 maybe because there’s no branding to talk about
@@surrendertoflow78 what do you mean, no branding? If there's no brand, who makes it and how do you buy it? Anyway, I can't use a curl cream either because that's also way too heavy for my hair and just sits on top. My hair is low porosity, I guess that's why. I just spray a leave in, and then use gel. Using oil to scrunch out the crunch is not effective for anyone because oil is only to be used on the very ends when it has completely dried, to prevent moisture loss through the ends. I have a very light oil for that purpose, but even that makes my hair frizzy and greasy - just a couple of light drops on the ends - so that's another wasted product on my Reject shelf!
Curl cream is fine to apply soaking wet but are you using a gel? If you apply a gel soaking wet it will not give enough hold and will just dilute the gel
Are you washing your hair every day? That is not the best for it. There is nothing wrong with using gel every wash day. It's not a damaging product and most are moisturizing. I wash and style 2x per week

Great content. I love the Ouidad Advanced Strong hold gel too. A little as a topper goes a long way.
Great video. Your videos are so easy to follow.
Gena, you look beautiful. So does your hair. Thank you for this info! 🩷
You and your videos are AMAZING!!! So helpful and so thorough! Thank you!!! 🧡🧡🧡🙇♀️

Omg yes that would be amazing! They need a lightweight strong hold gel
Definitely agree with this!
Me too. I do use the gel but I have to water it down a lot.
This is the video I’ve been waiting for. TY Gena! ✌️💛😍

Thanks for another great video! What curl creams pair well with the Ouidad gel?

Agree about the Curlsmith frizz line. The shampoo and conditioner are amazing and the finishing crème is good too. But the gel is lacking. I've been combining that one and the soufflé and it's working ok for me.
I do the same thing but I really want to find a one gel that will hold up in South Florida weather.
Great video! The AG gel is one of my favorites. Have you tried the LOMA firm hold gel? I’m getting great results paired with the deep conditioner as a leave-in. My hair very dry and coarse.
If I want to give my hair a wet look that doesn’t cause frizzy is it just one product I need? I have thick hair I don’t need more volume.
Thanks!!
The NYM curl cream!
I love that one! @@GenaMarie Thank you!!!! :)
Ouidad strong hold gel has been around since the 90’s. They know how to do hair gel.
Your hair is lovely!
I will be going on a cruise and am unable to bring my diffuser. Can you give me ideas on how to style my shoulder length curly hair without a diffuser? Can curly hair be left to dry on its own? Thank you.
This is great content 😍 Do you think I can replace the curlsmith shine gel with Curlsmith in-shower style fixer? Does it do the same job?
Yes, same type of gel
Alway excellent and informative. Don’t know how you do it all!

Hola! Saludos desde Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 nos gustaria una reseña de los nuevos Aveda Be curly ❤
Thanks as always, Gena! :) I think my hair is just finicky because the top portion is low porosity and then the second half of is high porosity.
I would maybe use less cream or skip cream and try it with just the gel alone. And yes, adding a foam or mousse can provide more grit.
Can someone please point me in the direction of a video that talks about the night routine for curls. Like - what is the routine for curly hair while you sleep and how do you prep? Thanks.

Hi Gena, is there a way to make hair not frizzy but at the same time not curly, which products or procedures or syling methods do you recommend?
Another great video! Did you notice that none of your recommendations come in a jar? You must hate jars as much as I do, ha! I'm still looking for the perfect gel that comes in a tube or a bottle and haven't found it yet. I love several of the gels you recommend, but usually have to apply a custard underneath and custards always come in jars...ugh. Although I haven't tried the Innersense I Create Curl Memory yet. I'll put that on my to-try list. Thanks!
It’s not that I mind the jars, its just I haven’t found a stronghold gel in a jar. Custards are usually light hold.
I live in south GA and find glycerin is an issue. But everything has it! What gel with glycerin would work?
Hi Gena, have you tried more products from design me? I know you tried the balm but I was wondering your thoughts about the curl gel/volume mousse? Thanks💖
No not yet but I want to!
I can't find curlsmith shine gel in stores. Did they discontinue. Thank you!!
I have been using Ouidad anti humidity for many years. I have soft very fine hair, you recommend using a foam first to add grit. What foams do you recommend.
What are your thoughts on the creme of nature pure honey curl activator? I ordered it before watching this but haven’t tried it yet.
Do you have any recommendations for low porosity high density hair? I struggle to get proper curl clumps.
Have you tried the Aveda be curly products?
Yes, the original line. Doesn’t work the best for my hair.
Is the shiny jelly good?
Yes! I like the consistency. It's just more light to medium hold
Can you review Aveda's Be Curly Advanced line.
I don't trust "gifted reviews"
That was all I saw on their website.
You are thorough in your reviews.
Yes! Coming soon
I live near the beach and nothing works.

I have very thin curly hair and don’t it. Can I use the products when I blowout my hair for the frizz.
Is it the curling cream or the gel that gives curl definition?
Mainly the gel created definition. Creams do help to clump the curls and moisturize.

If I want less frizz should I stop the curl
Cream in the shower?
Curl cream is fine to apply soaking wet but are you using a gel? If you apply a gel soaking wet it will not give enough hold and will just dilute the gel
Can I find them in sephora?
Some are!
Could you please list the ones taht are avalible pleaseeee 🙏 ❤
@@chaimaa4303Sephora has a great search function so you can look things up for yourself!
I don’t think using GEL after every shower is good for hair!
Are you washing your hair every day? That is not the best for it. There is nothing wrong with using gel every wash day. It's not a damaging product and most are moisturizing. I wash and style 2x per week
