- ROTHERHAM MASBOROUGH STATION in FEBRUARY 1987
On a short visit on a chilly Winter's day I visited Rotherham station and in the short period I was there I witnessed a variety of traction on a variety of stock. A few MGR trains were seen surprisingly hauled by class 47's and local as well as cross country passenger services. 1st generation DMU's were abound on local trains in and out of Sheffield nearby and "LE" movements including a single class 20 locomotive also a "Peak" was seen being dragged by a solitary class 20, (not heading for "Booth's Scrapyard" around the corner thankfully) Not yet anyway. Enjoy this one off memory from this location, just over 36 years ago!....
I used to use Masborough, in the 60s,going with my friends to watch the Millers.Great days, this video brought it all back, thank you.
You're very welcome and much appreciated ...Best wishes...Mark
Went on those trains (in the early 90s) as they were still running. Happy days with that loud screaming engines as they chugged away down the line. Music to my ears.
You're most welcome and many thanks...Mark
Nice old-school video I miss a screaming Valletta class 43 hst storming out of stations blasting loads of clagg out! the class 20s was probably from Healey mills/tinsley I was at Rotherham station recently it's well changed!!! Good video 👏👏👏🥰
Many thanks Justin and my best regards...Mark
The days when train travel did not cost a mortgage. Wonderful memories. Thanks for uploading. It's great to see the grid irons on Mgr trains.
You are most welcome Many thanks for your comment and for watching...best wishes...Mark
My local station now closed and deserted. In the days of steam when coal was king it was a joy to spend a day there the amount of freight was unbelievable. Thanks for the memories.
I just wish I could have gone that far back with the video. You must have had a wonderful day's watching the trains then, most anywhere really...best wishes to you Roy and many thanks....mark

Love seeing this as it brings back so many memories of how great the railway scene was back them. We're lucky to have been around at that time.
We were definately fortunate.....Mark
Thank you! Can never get enough of these "proper" trains! Happy days.
You are most welcome...more to come....Mark
Watching this makes me calm. Don´t know why.
Many thanks and you're very welcome....Mark
Thank you fir sharing.
You're welcome and many thanks....Mark
Makes you realise just how recent it was that the country ran on coal as much as oil and gas.
Love the Class 20 in BR "BIg" livery that you had at 14:03 - Am I the only one that's thinking "Blimey, how long did the Type 1 DMUs last up North?" 1987 and its not all Pacer's and Sprinter's?!
Many thanks for the comment and best wishes....Mark
No pacers sprinters or 150s!
Bliss!
More 45s would have been great.
Yes agree but even so the variety for such a short visit was beyond expectations ....Much appreciated.....Mark
Just brilliant 👍🏻
So many thanks....Mark
I had forgotten how busy the line to canklow was!
Many thanks and best regards...Mark
God I don’t even recognise it. I’ve been thorough Rotherham by car more times than I count and Rotherham station has always been a two track station. This view is a complete 180 to me, I didn’t even know Rotherham used to have four platforms.
Many thanks for watching Jacob...best wishes to you....Mark
May be your thinking of Rotherham central that was built to replace masborough?
@@grahamallen1970 possibly
@@grahamallen1970 I am not too sure on this Graham....The atlas said at that time the station was Masborough...many thanks and my sincere regards...Mark
@@spompey up to 4 years ago all 4 platform faces and tops still in place...platform buildings on up old road side was a curry house
Think the transpennine trains to Cleethorpes go through the old station, or they used to.
Many thanks for watching and your comment, sorry for the late response was away for 2 weeks...best wishes...Mark
