Hi my friend, good job on this beautiful shohin of black pine,it has a trunk with a nice movement and a beautiful bark,in two or three years it will become very interesting! Have a great Sunday my friend!💪💪💪
A very beautiful tree, interesting work, an entertaining video. Fortis, you delivered again! At the beginning, when you zoom-in in order to present the tree, you nailed it! Your close ups while working on the tree were also great. This music has now become your signature music for pines 👌 For me this is the perfect shohin size pine since it is very elegant and much more realistic as a miniature version of a big tree than the stumpy shohin pines that are so much valued among bonsai enthusiasts. (And I am saying this knowing that you also have and value one of this stumpy pines) I enjoyed watching you working on this one and l will be following its progress.
It's not that it's deciduous though! Ha ha thank you Alexandre! I try to find ways to materialize the idea I have in my mind through sooting and editing and this is quite interesting, but I keep it basic . It's all about the trees, in my mind. The music is indeed excellent and after your suggestion, it will be part of this channel every now and then! I know that you don't care much about pines so this comment is much appreciated!
@@ArkefthosBonsai Well… things change! To start with, I do like pines, they are my favorite evergreens and my interest in them increases with time. As you know I mostly experiment with deciduous trees. This is partly because they change dramatically through the seasons and there is a lot to observe and enjoy. But mostly it is because I live by a deciduous forest and I have limitless access to free seedlings and to some collected material. The species are not necessarily fit for bonsai but they are perfect for practice. Visually I like pines a lot and I also have been enjoying playing with pines since it is a very different kind of work. The real upset is that now I have also started appreciating Junipers too! After I got my first one, and since I got it from a very special place (you know!), I bought a couple more (small nursery plants) and some cypresses and I have expanded my horizons! I will take some pictures and send you on instagram. Now it is raining so I don’t take the pictures yet.
Thank you, that was very informative! We are heading into the opposite season here in Australia and I have a JBP at around the same level of development. Do you recommend decandling also on developing trees or only on refined ones?
Shohin pines should be decandled in every opportunity. If they are healthy and growing strong in a normal sized pot (not overly small) they should get decandled even the same year with repotting. So if you see strong healthy candles, go for it. Once the tree doesn't need to thicken the trunk or different parts of it, it should be decandled. Same goes for Japanese maples and pinching new growth in early spring. Good luck on your trees!
Very nice tree.Question i have a jbp about 5 yrs old, im growing a very long sacrifice branch, in fall should i remove say 80 percent of the needles going up the sacrifice branch and leave the needles at the top im guessing so more energy gets distributed to the bottom portion of the tree? Thank u
Thank you! Yes, 80% sounds great and now is a great time to do so (northern hemisphere). This is so important as the tree not only will be unbalanced, it might get to a point where it will reject the lower foliage, the foliage needed to create a bonsai tree. In cases you might even get above 90% (if you are going for a shohin size tree). Cheers Chris!
Thank you Lawrence! I have 2 but I have them in the ground still, get them old and gnarly. Definitely I will do something in a year or two. There lots and lots of videos styling olive trees on TH-cam so there is lots of material for study. Good luck on your trees!
It's #PineTime also that intro riff was a slapper! So much energy for such a small tree I love it.
I'm really glad you did! It's important to me that these choices pay out. Thank you!
Great video, really great information on how to address your pine, potting, displaying, pruning, and styling 🎉🎉🎉
I'm doing my best! Thank you mate!

Loved the opening shots and seeing your work on a shohin for a change! Great work, my friend!👍
Thank you John! It's been 15 years in the making, so the garden better have some good angles or it was all in vein.... Have a great week my friend!

Well, you are always welcome to work here in the garden whenever you come visit Greece! Plenty of needles and branches here!
