ATSF 3751 Steam Engine Running Along the Los Angeles River! 9/20/2024

- It's that time of year for Santa Fe 3751 to once again make an appearance to the public, this time much like last year, at Los Angeles Union Station. Though its arrival at Union Station was close to 9pm, much earlier in the day the steam crew along with Amtrak were doing runs of the train along the Amtrak Roundhouse lead, part of the complex Metrolink River Subdivision. Accompanied by the Operation Lifesaver Locomotive AMTK 203, the pair did five round trips up and down the west side of the river, before returning back the 8th street yard, where final preparations were made for its journey on the mainline to the Los Angeles Rail Safety Event. I caught it at various points along this rare movement for this locomotive.
Despite being only attached to AMTK 203, ATSF 3751 blew tons of smoke and chugged hard as it got prepared for the trip, as the P42DC was only idle and the steam engine was doing all the work. Running on the opposite side of the River Subdivison on the east bank line was a tardy ZSALB. Thanks for watching!

I like steam train!!! 👌👍
I wholeheartedly agree
Nice catch its difficult to catch Santa Fe 3751 in action these days
@@ASoCalRailfanner Well it was undergoing an overhaul over the past few years. This was likely a test run
Boy that doublestack train sure takes me back to my youth. Most of the doors were still closed & locked! Just like how I remember em! 😁
Fantastic video Colin! Great to see the 3751 !!
I almost thought about seeing this engine a third year in a row, but seeing it was doing a repeat of last year I ended up skipping this. Plus, my schedule was pretty packed anyway so I’m just glad I got to see 3751 the first two times, and I’ll definitely see it again once it’s ptc installation is complete and it does an excursion as I’m dying to see her so one seeing it’s been over 10 years since the engine last pulled one.
yeah they say they are trying to get it out on the mainline, it just seems like their plans don't get anywhere, probably from issues with the host railroads
@@PasadenaSubColin Amtrak among other class 1s have become more stricter since ptc became a important asset starting in 2018, but as of now is proving to not be 100% perfect or helpful.
Heard the whistle blowing alot last night really wanted to go check it out but I was tired and went to bed. I live close by.
yeah it left almost two hours after it was supposed to leave
Good to see the 3751 out & about, . . . .
I have seen this train at train day in May in Fullerton. Should be every year!
Looks like they may be doing the same thing big boy did, using the diesel locomotive as dynamic brake to simulate having a train behind it for testing
Is that what they are doing? I always wondered why it’s just going forward and backwards
Ooo yea!
Awesome 👌
Great video
I would love to see 3751 and 2926 do a double headed excursion.
i miss 3751 doing those High speed Exursions
It would be cool to see 3751 and 2926 double head
Hope she can run on the main again soon.
They need to doublehead something with the 2926
Hello Mr steamer ❤
Great video , the locomotive, but i live nearby and love trains and train yards, bnsf keeps it looking nice and clean 👍lol. Thank you. 👍😎
Cool thanks for watching!
I can't wait to see her with 2926 in the future!
Hey,it looks like Mountain Thunder #734 from The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad in Cumberland,Maryland, 1:22
Maybe one day it will pull an excursion again. I heard PTC is to be installed on 3751.
its in progress. the box is already in the cab.
That would be excellent if true. I've heard that 2926 is already equipped with it (PTC), they just need to work out all the permits and get the spur track completed so she can start excursions in New Mexico.
@@thunderbird1921 i was at the operation lifesaver event on the 21st. I have pictures of the PTC box in the cab.
If only we could see 3751 do a proper excursion with Amtrak again.
i know they're trying to, i think it's just difficult to get all of the permissions granted
ATSF 3751 is not supposted to pull An Amtrak Diesel Locomotive behind it this makes me Angry and that is wrong! It needs to stop doing that shit and leave the Amtrak Ge Genesis P42DC Diesel Locomotives Alone!
@@danielmendoza355 I guess you don’t understand how things work these days? You rather it just sit and not get out?
0:44 6953 in the back round 😢
It’s been rotting in that same exact spot since the accident
Great catch of the oldest surviving 4-8-4 locomotive hard to believe in three short years 3751 will turn 100 as she was built in 1927 2027 will mark her 100th birthday I look forward to this returning to the mainline how close are they to getting that PTC system?
PTC has already been installed on it and it was built in 1927. lol
@@jdgfilms9595 oops my bad that’s what I meant 1927 so in three years 3751 is going to turn 100
PTC is on it though afaik they haven't been able to get it to work
@@PasadenaSubColin I gotcha
Are they just testing some new addons running up and down this track?
They were just running it for fun from what i was told
Will 3751 ever run excursions again?
It’s unlikely but not impossible. There’s a lot of hurdles that need to be cleared for it to return to the mainline
Cool seeing a steam engine pulling what appears to be a modern electric drive engine. 👏👏👏👏
It is not Cool for 3751 to be pulling a Amtrak Diesel Locomotive behind it that's bullshit!!
🚏🙍🏼♂️no configuraion built
in revers ing it on excusion
thrain steam locomotv train 😂
Gta nb
