I can't believe no one mentioned your clever move when you got on the topic of variants. I laughed my sack off when you added that shirt. You just keep doing these little things that make me laugh. First it was your bad over acting which I think is great and now the shirt variation. You go away for a few months and you came back full of creative vim and vigor.

Regie, Good video. Keep these pulse of the market coming. 🤘 My POV 1. Anything new (to me) has almost no incremental value. Buy your favorite titles to read and keep, not to flip or grade (nutz). 2. Your video speaks more to flippers, which is cool. If anyone is buying now to sell tomorrow, you better buy a collection that has keys or at local shows where you can bundle and negotiate cash in hand. Obviously this is a commitment in time and money. Be prepared to make small gains. 3. To the long-term collector, like me. I'm picking up odd book here/there (mostly raw) to have dupes of books I already overpaid for (LOL) but still love. Will I sell some? Maybe, but to buy more books, not as much for profits (But hopefully not at a loss). 4. This is still an investment whether you sell or hold. Can someone tell my wife this as well. 5. The hobby keeps me going. Long workdays every day, but something to look forward to. Stay well..
I’m not sure that this video speaks to flippers. I think the video speaks to anyone that has the financial ability to buy now and hold. It speaks to people that have been price out and unable to get a book that they have wanted. It speaks to people that may have overpaid in recent years and may be gun shy now as a result. The video speaks to people that may be on the sidelines. I can’t say how people hear the video however. :-) Regarding point four, I’d love to put in a good word for you, but your wife might call my wife via the underground wife network (UWN) and we can’t have that. @@RegieCollects Thanks Regie. Totally. The whole variants thing in general is a trigger for me (LOL). Don’t disagree about new blood. Without it, the hobby dies. In some ways, I am very thankful for the movies/tv shows because a lot of folks have been exposed to characters that they otherwise would not have heard about. I really wish we had actual data that we could look at. Alas.
Great video Reg. Very astute and wise recommendations here, as always. Could you possibly do a followup video that also examines the recent sales of comics, separated by era? I.e. The market for Golden age relative to silver and Copper. It appears that Golden age is oupacing a resurgence in all other eras, possibly directly related to relative scarcity (100 census count vs 2000).
I’ve sorta looked at this over the years in various videos. Golden Age moves at its own pace and I think it’s directly related to real scarcity and not manufactured scarcity seen with ultra moderns/variants. Given this real scarcity and lack of near-term sales data, golden age collectors pay what they think something is worth and not what the data (pricing guide) suggests. I’m not an expert on golden age but I will continue to noodle. I’m hoping to work on some market analysis videos in the weeks ahead.
This is so spot on. After making several of the poor investment strategies over decades of collecting.. im definitely on track with the investment strategy you laid out. I used to try to time the market and flip books.. i stopped doing that pretty quickly, lol. I used to buy variants.. doing that is about as close to gambling as I've ever come 😅. Buying whatever titles just because a main character is in it instead of just focusing on that characters main title. ASM vs. Web of Spiderman comes to mind. I used to chase the FOMO book of the week.. now i wait for the prices to drop or just be patient until i find a good deal. For a good while now, I've been a long-term investor and primarily focused on proven characters in their primary titles. Or i ho after proven books that have a long history of holding value. If I go rogue..( not that Rogue)... It's for some of the multiple other reasons i collect but not for investing Thanks for the video.
We have all been there brother. Trust me. Chasing the book of the week, the book featured in a video, the movie spec…it’s all fun stuff but after a while, ya gotta pump the brakes. 😂😂👊🏾
I'm glad you made this video. I agree for the most part of going back to the basics. I wished you would have talked about the difference in speculation in today's term as opposed to speculation which was talked about in the past in books like Marvel Guide of collecting comics. You mentioned a few things that made sense in accordance to mainstays benchmarks when it comes to evaluating the value of the books. One thing I wished people would stop in the area of speculation is using TV and Movies as a marker for an increase or decrease of comics value. Most don't realize that TV and Movie audience isn't necessarily comic collectors or investors. It's a poor factor in determining demand for any issue. Anyway, it's an excellent video.
Good info.....I think variants is tricky, I think you got to get them when they come out and you really got to be able to determine is it rare, us really unique, cool , is it a key like Daken first appearance with 3 claws, the Ultimate fallout 4 variant, I think the new virgin Ultimate Wolverine with Colossus face on cover the book to get. Good info thanks Regie...will share in my comicbook group on Facebook. Cool people love comicbooks too
This is all sound advice that every collector, no matter their level of experience, needs to hear once in a while. Personally, when it comes to my "investment" purchases in comics, I generally try to stick to 1st appearances or iconic covers. I do wonder about the future though. In 20ish years when I'm a lot older than I am today, will the collectors of that era see my collection as valuable? For example, if I have a bunch of bronze and copper 1st appearances (with a couple silver age sprinkled in), will that entice tomorrow's collectors? Or will they be more enchanted by the 1st appearances of characters they grew up with; Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Daken, X-23, America Chavez, Ms Marvel, etc etc etc. Another great video, Regie. Thanks!
It’s an interesting thought. I personally think it will be a little bit of both. There are going to be some folks that gravitate towards characters from their childhood and will stop there, but I think others will naturally gravitate towards the foundation of the tree: Miles/Gwen came from Peter. Daken/X-24 from Wolverine. By that same token, I think today’s children are being exposed to “core" super heroes on a regular basis. I literally just left the room where my daughter (almost 8) was watching a kids' program where the boy was playing with Spider-Man (not Miles) toys that they got from Target. She then flipped to a different episode where a dad was dressed like Logan/Wolverine while playing with his kids. Taking it step further, characters like Captain America, Green Lantern, and the X-Men aren’t exactly our generation’s characters. They came before us but have become entrenched with us due to how these characters were used in cartoons, TV shows and comics.
@RegieCollects I appreciate you for answering my comment. That speaks loudly of you:). Similar to this video, tips on how to invest smartly in signature series books. Regie, great video. I got the money to get my final grail book TMNT #1 but with prices dropping should I wait a little while before I get it in turns that I can get it cheaper? I have started my next hobby now collecting video games now.
I get what you are saying on variants. Sometimes you see a 1:50 or something variant that has a number of 9.8s on the census that doesn't even seem statistically possible. I do try to pick up variants that are also first appearances, and where the cover is nicer than the A cover. Recent example would be the 1:25 of Scarlet Witch 6, with the first full appearance of Amaranth. Could go nowhere, but I love the cover anyway, and it was only $15. And it the character ever become popular, that variant is going to blow up.
Frist of all ❤love your books you show I have a few of the same 😊 so good to know iam on the Right Path with my comic collecting Sir. Comics well Always be its on thing 🤔 it's up there Sir in my opinion with sport cards grade,Pokémon grade, video games, toys, But to Me Comics will always be #1 Born 1988 I remember as kid going Mall could not read but would go straight to the comic shop only look for xmen, wolverine, sipder man, venom, spawn, ghostrider those early 90s Marvel Comics were so badass I don't care what anyone says that glow in dark ghostrider cover is Legend. Thanks Sir for reminding me of my favorite hobby Comics are History and always well be its what makes them valuable and because there cool 😊.
Also, keeping an eye on “supply” and demand. Scarce keys from the gold age and grails from the silver age(to a lesser extent) have good fundamentals. Also, buy books unemotionally and focus on great buys where you are paying at a low price.
I didn’t put this in the video but supply for a lot of comics just dropped. My guess would be that the drop is across the board. Think about all of the natural disasters that have hit in recent months. We can assume that a lot of comics were lost.
If you have the money to buy the equipment and the time to learn the right techniques, cleaning and pressing yourself can be rewarding. If not, let someone else do it. I have a video series here on the challenge of you decide to go down that road. The series shows one method for cleaning and pressing. I do not have recommendations for pressers. If you are on IG, there are a ton of folks that are “advertising.” If you go down this road, I have a video on the channel that may help you pick the right person. Generally speaking, if you search TH-cam for my name plus a term you will find videos. “Regie Collects pressing” should give you several.
Regie if I was getting into comics now . I would want to read the book get to know all the characters in the series. I'm a Hulk fan i wanted to understand everything about the hulk his origin what made him tick and more.
Hello if i am looking for original art from comics, lets say i want one from like X-MEN are Rogue solo comic what key words do i search for on sites like Ebay? Original X-Men art? like art from the comic book.
If you are referring to the new Rogue Savage Land series there is a chance that it has not hit the secondary market (e.g., eBay) yet. To this end, you may want to search for the artist name. Once you find the artist website, you can determine if they sell their original art directly or via a broker. Some artist prefer the broker route because they do not want to manage inventory or shipping. Because the broker gets paid a fee the art tends to be a little more expensive than buying directly from the artist. Let me know if this helps.
Im a Marvel guy through and through but I have been picking up what I consider some undervalued DC gems. Just last week I brought in Green Lantern 7, first appearance of Sinestro. Mainstream character ? Probably not - but definitely an important one for GL. Next on the list I am eyeing that first app of Reverse Flash and Gorilla Grodd
Definitely core to GL. Congratulations on the book. Sinestro has been both a good and bad guy-think he’s good at the moment. 😂 With that said, villain books typically do not perform well versus hero books from an investment standpoint.
@ Fair point. Maybe emotions get the best of me when it comes to DC, but with most of the big Hero’s first app’s being in the golden age, I am priced out of those books. It seems like villains are the next thing within my budget. That said, Im sure there is a book out there that would ‘outperform’ my investment in GL7, but I still would expect longterm gains. Thanks for the reply, and welcome back :)
@ Curious on your thoughts of what would be considered big keys for GL outside of Showcase 22, GL1, and the first app of Guy Gardner and John Stewart. Slowly getting into DC so I’m not sure what the community values - I have checked out Key Collector a few times though. One book I really would like to grab would be GL76. I currently have ZERO Neal Adams in the PC and it’s been bothering me the last 2 years - I need to scratch that itch lol.
Variants are what is and what will completely kill the indusrtry. Bad stories can and will be forgotten so new blood won't even notice. But what new blood does notices is. " I want Batman #145".... " Wait umm.... which issue is the right one, they all have different covers?" " F this I'm out. " Went from story content to trading cards basically. Plus variant covers are nothing but pose copies of other covers. Bring back the covers of old that looked like a page right out of the book. It's way more engaging.
I predicted the downfall of the Comic Book Index (CBI) 18 months ago. As the economy goes, so goes the CBI. Nearly two years ago, respected influencers in the stock market and economy forecasted an economic downturn. However, with smart purchasing practices of key comics, a significant ROI is still possible-if you have the expendable income to invest. The most important element of this strategy? LEARN TO CLEAN AND PRESS.
Do me a favor, keep mentioning that Aquaman's first ocean pee issue. I bought 400 copies hoping to retire when Jason Momoa would mention it in the movies...#didnthappen 😅😅 Seriously though, great video! I look at it this way, there are no "down turns" only buying opportunity.
Why do one when you can do both? I personally invest in comics, gold/silver, stocks, mutual funds, CDs, real estate and cryptocurrency. Each one has its positives and negatives.
@ agreed. I’m HODLING my silver keys for my kids, but I a selling all my ETFs and stocks for Bitcoin these days. I think Crypto will have a peak around Oct based on how Bitcoin usually grows post halving, then I will rotate some gains into ETFs and upgrading my top 10 keys
The collector fails to appreciate that ratio variants are only given an incentive ratio to incentive retailers ordering more of cover A. It's very likely that Marvel or DC has printed 1500 or 3000 copies of those variants regardless of the number they ultimately sell. This is how overstock ended up in sales from the Diamond warehouse in recent years. They don't care about scarcity, they care about sales.
When people started speculating on whether or not Taylor Swift was playing Dazzler for 3xqmple I didn't take it too seriously. Because reassess if whether or not she got the part UXM #130 is a great book. At this point I'm cool with picking up mid grade books. Especially if I can get them bumped up to a higher grade.
If u in this comic thing to be rich u better talk to your financial advisor if u get a book cheap maybe u can flip it and make some money !! But investment na man it’s just a hobby!! If u grab high grade books with good characters u will always be able to sell them but after that nothing else matters !! Spider-Man / Batman/ Wolverine u will alway be about to sale them if u had to
I’m so confused by this comment. 😂 No one said anything about being rich from comics. But, I did state buying low and selling high is a great plan which you basically agree with. What’s really funny is that my financial planner actually takes advice from me when it comes to comics. 😂👊🏾
@ reg u deft the godfather !! Just saying there are people who think that if u get all these KEYs u will be getting a big return on your money ! Not always like that just get comics enjoy them and leave the money making to the stocks !! Invest in Tesla 😏😏😏
Totally agree on the variants Reggie. I would only pick one up if I loved the art on the cover; definitely not for the potential value. Also I collect first and foremost because I want various runs and key books. I will gladly accept any returns when I’m in the late stages of life and ready to unload my collection to benefit my kids. I consider that to be a bonus with the main value I derive today is from my love of the hobby and collecting what I like
Great video Regie I have changed my key and want list over the last year or so with prices coming down picked up a few keys for around half the cost of a couple years ago and i quit getting the flash in the pan variant of the week just in hopes of it being the next 1 in 25 ult fallout 4, definitely saving some money and collecting smarter.
I appreciate your hopeful message but I'm gonna have to disagree with you my friend. In the context of what's happening politically, economically and socially... comic book collecting does not make sense. I'm not saying comic books are gonna disappear over night, but the comic book pool continues to drain and no one knows how to patch it up. Stories and art will always be exist, but what we are witnessing are the final days of Rome for the industry of comics.
@@RegieCollects Fair, but like i said, the pool is leaking and the demise of Diamond suggests that the leak is getting more aggressive. It's all tied to the shrinking middle class. Look up the stats and you'll be amazed how closely it correlates to the shrinking pool of comic collectors. I recently stopped buying new books but I was collecting Maria Lovett’s work for a while. Last comic I read was her Heartbeat series. Amazing art, but terrible story. Before that, I slogged though the six issue Infinity, which made no sense and turned out to be a waste of time. I think I'm just to old to enjoy Jessica Drew out in space riding a space bike. All I'm saying is that the market is headed down, not up.
As I read your comment, it seems to me that you have turned you back on comics. You’re not even reading anything current and I can tell you for a fact that there are great comics out there from Marvel, Image and DC. Diamond hasn’t been a force in comics since 2020 when they shutdown and lost DC followed by Marvel. Heck, most LCS had already setup accounts with other distributors. Long story short, how could anyone be surprised by Diamond’s demise? The economy isn’t in a good place but how is that different from any other period where things took a downturn-how many actual crashes and recessions have we seen in the last 80 years? 🤷🏾♂️😂 You speak of the shrinking pool of comic collectors without a single data point to support that. You have no clue how big or small the collector population actually is. I’ve looked for the data and can’t find it. The comic book market/community is going through ups and downs just like every other industry/hobby. I have faith that it will be here-even if some people aren’t. 😂
@ I hope you got my response. TH-cam censorship is out of control. In any case, we'll see if comics turn into stamp collecting in the coming years. Be well.
@@RegieCollects Okay, what does that have to do with not investing in comic books AT ALL? You understand that investments have to pay off in the future, right? Like, I can advise people to put money in market stocks or land because in the future, they will be guaranteed to increase in value. You are asking people to invest in tulips in 1637. It is horrible financial advice.
You say that putting money into stocks or land is a guarantee that they will increase in value and that’s factually inaccurate. Please see any host of companies that have gone bankrupt to disprove your statement. Additionally, anyone that has been wiped out by a natural disaster will also beg to differ with the notion of a guarantee. There are no guarantees with investments unless you are locking in a principal. This video is not about land or stocks. Nor, is it a comparison of comics to other types of investments. This is a video for comic book collectors / comic book investors that have been unable to secure books in recent years because the market has been hot. To say that these people, who already collect and love comics shouldn’t invest in their collections doesn’t make much sense.
@@FrankTerry-y8u how am I taking it out of context? Are you saying comicbooks are a good investment? Money in the bank will yield you higher returns on 10k in 10 years than a key book.
Just playing your argument back, you are saying that putting your money in the bank will make you rich over 10 years. Given that the national average savings account yield is 0.55 percent APY it’s highly unlikely. At that interested rate, compounded monthly with no additional investment or changes to rate you can make $565.27. I think Frank is countering your suggesting that I suggested that comics will make you rich. Put another way, you are taking my video out of context because that is not what I said or suggested.
@RegieCollects never said rich, said better investment. so most high yield savings accounts have 2-4% interest rates so compounding, that would yield you $2-4k assuming you contribute nothing to that account and let it sit. That's assured money. You make it sound like key 1st appearances are some kind of smart investment. It could be but that's speculation.
I buy variants because I like the cover art, thats it. The most expensive books in my collection happen to be variants.

Could go nowhere, but I love the cover anyway, and it was only $15. And it the character ever become popular, that variant is going to blow up.
Hey Reggie that movie back ground worked for you I think you should keep it looked professional.
Do you recommend trying to learn how to press your own mid grade books, or do you have a reputable place you send your for pressing/cleaning?..
Spiderman Spiderman Spiderman
And, if you want to be specific…ASM. 😂😂
@RegieCollects yes sir. My best investments so far
ASM silverage always sells well. Blue chip stock for sure!
But also in a downward trend.
@ Buy Buy Buy
We are in the beard phase my good sir

My brother Trev is doing the same thing right now, Regie. Great to see you today. Can't wait for the live on wednesday.
The jacket - reggie variant 😂
Thanks for picking up on that.
Regie if I was getting into comics now . I would want to read the book get to know all the characters in the series. I'm a Hulk fan i wanted to understand everything about the hulk his origin what made him tick and more.
My 2025 goal is to focus on completing runs of books and do more conventions . 🍻
'Hides' on the wall! Nice! Curious to know what issue is hiding directly behind you 🤷♂️
Marvel Comics Presents. The wall has turned over so I can’t be sure.
What about a variant that features a new (anticipated) character's first cover appearance?
I don’t consider that an investment versus speculation. Nothing wrong with buying the book-if that’s what you want to do.
The beard 🧔 is cool my brother

I was reading some Golden Age Human Torch just this week. I get where you are coming from brother. Keep enjoying the hobby.
I think all GL big keys are good gets right now.
LOL. Well done. :-)
My trick is to buy Bitcoin since it is the best performing asset then invest in grail comics with my gains.
Good luck with the plan!
I have the issue with the second time Aquaman pees in the ocean 😭
LOL
So you’re saying there is still a chance she will be Dazzler…? 😂😂
Nah! The book is still dope though.😎
Agree with that.
Salutation Regie, cool beard. Varient comics are being sold by mavel by the drones.
Morning! Variants are a great way for publisher, LCS, artists, etc to make additional money. I totally get it but….they aren’t getting mine. :-)
I think the best thing is to never look at comics as an “investment”.. it’s a hobby. Collect them for the love of the books, not as a retirement fund.
That’s a perspective. In my opinion if you are spending thousands on a comic you better do so smartly or retirement will be delayed. 🤷🏾♂️😂
Or don’t put your retirement at risk buy buy “investment books” you can’t afford.
What is up Regie? I’ll have to check out your videos getting back into it. I still sell them, don’t buy anymore.
Im investing in Wonder Woman, cause i read them.
Just do you n what you like.. but be smart if you're looking for investments or specs.
BINGO -by the way is that a Howler?
I am only investing in MELANIA coin now 🤑🤑🤑
😂😂
Tesla is down 1.13%. I own it. 😂👊🏾
@ give it a few trump is in it’s going up trust me !!
I consider that to be a bonus with the main value I derive today is from my love of the hobby and collecting what I like
Aquaman is a dirty fish
😂
If you don't buy low... you can't sell high
I debated putting that UF book in the video. It’s literally the one that I was thinking about.
People have been predicting the demise of comics for decades-yet, here we are. Question. What was the last comic you read? Just curious.
Be well.
Tip for those looking to invest - don't 😂 jk, collect wisely
Tip for investing in comic books: Don't.
There I saved you a lot of time and money.
Terrible advice. 😂😂
@@RegieCollects Why?
…because of the video that I created outlined why now is a good time to invest in comics versus the previous 3-4 years. 🤷🏾♂️
Comicbooks are not gonna make you rich lol stop
You're taking the information out of context. Why don't you "stop"
😂
