It appears CoreBlue is providing aerial (drone) photographs of roofs (look at 0:55). Does he possess a FAA Part 107 License to operate a drone for an other than recreational purpose? If he is using someone else to obtain these photos or video, do they possess this license? "The civil penalties for flying a commercial rig without first obtaining a remote pilot’s certificate from the FAA are up to $32,666 for each incidence." Something this lady may want to consider in her legal planning.

MANY roofers do that… it’s slimy and done often. BUT many homeowners use the contractor to get their insurance checks, they get the $$$ and don’t use you or get the work done… but used your estimate to get paid! So I say charge an estimate service fee and if I get the job apply it towards the final payment of the completed work performed.
I am a general contractor and I've never heard something like this person saying that he thinks that he gets $1,800 for not doing a job and it takes 5 minutes to go do an estimate job on a roof you do not need all that extra stuff and all the extra stuff he's talking about is a scam I hope she doesn't have to pay him because it's nothing but a scam
The takeaway from this is don't sign a contract unless u're doing business with that person. She might get out of it over that one line, but she shouldn't have signed anything unless she was sure she was going to do business with him.
I love that lady this Instagram fake roofer guy is going to mess with the wrong person at their house out in the woods and we won't have to hear from him again
As an actual contractor most states require you be licensed and insured. Before you hire a contractor ask for a proof of their workers comp and liability insurance. And their license number. A legitimate business will have no problems providing you with that information.
I had a Roofer ask to borrow my Extension Ladder, with leveling feet. I said, No, due to liability. It’s can be tricky to set up. He got into an argument with me and took the Ladder. Called the Sheriff and I made him sweat it out on being arrested for theft.
I don't trust people I don't know. That is what I tell marketers trying to sell me anything. Then I hang up. I always check out your permits to do business with the city as well and I need valid references, I do check them out and I read the fine print before signing anything.
What do you consider valid references? Do you want him giving out YOUR phone number to random potential customers who will be calling you who knows when?

I'm so glad the lady not only stood up to him but outed him as a scammer. She retained her sense of humor and I hope she retains her willingness to help a stranger, as she had when she loaned her ladder. I hope the lesson she learns isn't to shy away from helping others as she helped Preston the Snake with her ladder, but to never sign anything unless you truly understand all the implications, are fully comfortable with any rights you sign away, and it protects YOU at least as much as the other party. Regardless, she's a class act.
That's what his agreement pretty much says. The last sentence was something to the effect of there being an $1800 cancellation fee if canceled after the 3rd business day and if the roofer had already met with the adjuster. Not sure if he had met with the adjuster but sounds like he was violating GA law by meeting with the adjuster even if he did.
@@rogersmith7808 This. No one, including the reporters, cares about the facts. All the report said was she hired someone else and didn't want to pay him. It didn't go into why she replaced him, explain whether the adjuster thing made the cancelation fee invalid, or go into other legal reasons the cancelation fee was invalid.
But the first line of his contract may say on the owner's behalf. But as we know in the law that when you give permission and you're a sound mind and body. If you give him permission , then he can do it of this contract is you giving him permission
Always read your contract thoroughly before signing it. I learned this from Judge Marilyn Milian. I have no idea if she can get out of paying him but I know he doesn’t have to pay her the $1800 she wanted to charge him because there was no contract before hand for him, borrowing her Items.
The storm chasers have been in our northern neighborhood for nearly a year hammering daily on roofs and siding. A dozen companies came around after a hail storm. They offer a free roof check in exchange for a contract that you will let them do the work if your insurance approves. People act like it’s a deal but my State Farm policy has gone up over 20% with no claims. Amazing a days worth a damage to homes and not one broken window…It’s a scam! Don’t sign anything. Call your own insurance adjuster. Don’t use their public adjuster.
Hi , self-employed contractor with 24 years experience here . Unless she signed a contract with him guaranteeing him the work he is talking out of his backside . He probably assumed he had the job went out and bought the materials only to find out she went with someone else. If you're too small time to keep regular material around that's not going to break the bank you need to make double sure before you spend a nickel. That's on the contractor not the homeowner . We live in a free market and that means the customer is free to choose whatever contractor they like . If you're not keeping in touch with your customer base and if you're leaving people on hold for a long time by which I mean not responding at all not just on a phone call . If you're leaving people waiting for 3 and 4 weeks you can expect to lose some of those jobs and anyone with any experience already knows that . Sounds like this roofer doesn't have the experience they think they do in business . Verify verify verify .
She signed a contract whcih specified a $1,800 default fee. The contract is shown briefly in the video at 1:25. The $1,800 default fee is listed directly above the signature line.
I had to have my roofs replaced after a hurricane. The insurance company cut me a check. I deposited the check and hired a roofer. I gave him a half down. When he had the main house done he wanted the last half. The detached garage still had to be done. I refused to pay him till the entire job was completed. He got pissed and said he’d be back to finish the garage. Took him 6 weeks to complete it and he didn’t get the last paid till I was happy with it despite him harassing me. Daddy didn’t raise a fool.
If they dont break ground, then the contract is void... at least thats how they do it in MA. Scammers will break ground, then have a year to complete, in that year they spend one day on each property contract, recieve thousand from customers to buy supplies, they buy the wrong stuff (cheap) then leave it there and move on with their profit without completing the job. Then they sue when someone else is hired to redo the mess the scammer made. I fucking hate contractors and all the stupid rules and games, the bad ones are scammers, the good ones are drunks, and the really good ones are WICKED expensive and only cater to upper class.
Simple rule get as many free quotes as you want, and make sure they are free, but don’t sign anything with anyone other then the contractor you give the job to, and read every page of the contract, to ensure it is exactly what you want.

The lawyers came after us later. The only two things which saved us from a lawsuit were that I had lent it to my neighbor, not his cousin, and the mower was brand new with all pertinent safety features attached.
The fingers were reattached, but I doubt he'd ever play the cello again...

How many elderly folks has fallen to his scam?? Someone needs to take a look... Please!!
This country needs to do a much better job protecting our elderly. It's a national disgrace how the government lets the worst con artists grifters run rampant ripping off elderly and even worse does absolutely nothing about the countless overseas scammers across the entire planet constantly going after America's elderly, that everyone knows is going on. Yet the government lets these overseas scammers literally drain America's elderly bank accounts completely dry!
This guy is a shady contractor and should be banned from doing business in the State of Georgia. I have been in the construction field for over 30 years and have never heard anything like this.
Several roofers I had out had similar verbiage they wanted signed that day.
@@SellingthesuburbsofAtlanta People have to be vigilant. Never sign anything without understanding the meaning/consequences of every sentence. He would only start a new company with different name and start all over again.
It's Atlanta, he'll be the DA next.
They're in Canada. they're called Crackheads. Residential const. is full of them, but they target vulnerable: women who don't work, seniors, extremely overloaded and busy, you know, good targets that will buy a good instant one time appeal and a little pressure.

Signing a roofing job without actually being able to perform the work at all is a textbook case of an act in bad faith, which renders the contract misleading (and thus null and void).
Law assuming the guy is supposed to know that, doubling down on wanting money you're not entitled to becomes a crime at some point. Extortion is after all the use of threats and or violence to get money you're not legally entitled to. Disputes cover a lot, but not blatant extortion.

I was a roofer for 31 years. 20 years in business for myself. This guy needs to go to jail.
This man has set himself up for failure. Word of mouth is the best advertisement still today.
This is true even with movies. You could put all the money in marketing but word of mouth is god.
Now he can do a tutorial on how to lose yourself business by being featured on the news as a shady construction business.
Never hire someone that just shows up at your door.
That's why you gotta be very careful another scammer gets outed
What is the scam? The fee is in the contract. She signed the contract. Then she broke the contract.
I'm more amazed the small wooden ladder he borrowed to inspect the roof was even high enough to reach
I'd bill him $900 for the ladder, $900 for the leaf blower, $900 for the Electrical Cord and another $1,200 restocking fee to put everything back where it goes and cleaning of items. For a Total of $3,900 minus his $1,800 Cancellation fee, He now only owes her $2,100.
So pay up tough guy.
If a roofer shows up without a ladder and the necessary equipment to get up there and do a proper inspection and measurements so they can get an accurate quote then slam the door shut after telling them to take a hike
Depends on the reason..

I've been a builder for 40 years and signed thousands of contracts with customers, here is my opinion on this matter -1) This "roofer" is clearly unprofessional, incompetent and taking advantage of an older woman, 2) It is part of our job to lose business, happens everyday, 3) Never sign a contract without checking references and taking time to think it over. Also, if she did not give him a deposit when signing the contract is null and void, that's the law.
I don't know where this "checking references" thing started but no contractor is going to work with you if you act like you're hiring for the CIA. Would you want random potential customers calling YOU after you had someone do work on your house? No, of course not. Look at Google or use whoever your neighbor used.

What a sweet lady she is, someone come through and spruce things up a bit for her and find her some valuable contractors. Everyone wants to take advantage of the sweetest elders, sad to see! God bless her, I hope she gets a good quality roof for a good price!!!
This lady is my hero you want to borrow my stuff you're going to pay up to 😂😂
It appears CoreBlue is providing aerial (drone) photographs of roofs (look at 0:55).
Stop signing sh*t without fully reading the contract and if you’re STILL not sure then ask someone that you know will understand and help you!! Stop thinking you don’t ’need help’ with anything 💯🤷🏽♀️😐
I had a lady LEGAL ADVOCATE that would give unlogoed non licensed contractors cheques for the FULL AMOUNT as she "needed it, and wanted it NOW". of course, she got ripped off, just like HER OWN client base she spent time with in court (old ladies, people struggling with a language barrier, new arrivals not knowing the drill)!! Sheesh.

Crazy. He'll never get work again in this town.
Contracts are in place to protect the customer AND the contractor. Don't sign them until you're ready to commit to the project.
MANY roofers do that… it’s slimy and done often. BUT many homeowners use the contractor to get their insurance checks, they get the $$$ and don’t use you or get the work done… but used your estimate to get paid! So I say charge an estimate service fee and if I get the job apply it towards the final payment of the completed work performed.

definitely go to the court and don't settle with him when he realizes he's going to lose. he needs to be put out of commission permanently
She signed a document thinking it meant it would go into effect later if she agreed to ‘go with them’?
I am a general contractor and I've never heard something like this person saying that he thinks that he gets $1,800 for not doing a job and it takes 5 minutes to go do an estimate job on a roof you do not need all that extra stuff and all the extra stuff he's talking about is a scam I hope she doesn't have to pay him because it's nothing but a scam
She signed a contract after the estimate.
He had her sign a contingency form I bet, It’s a bad idea Homeowners don’t sign them
So glad that someone is getting down to this.
Instagram roofer is a big red flag!
The takeaway from this is don't sign a contract unless u're doing business with that person. She might get out of it over that one line, but she shouldn't have signed anything unless she was sure she was going to do business with him.
She has a beautiful home under the pines
I love that lady this Instagram fake roofer guy is going to mess with the wrong person at their house out in the woods and we won't have to hear from him again

What a dilatant! I’m going to be a ladder-less roofer 😂😂😂 what world does he live in?!
I love her!
As an actual contractor most states require you be licensed and insured.
Before you hire a contractor ask for a proof of their workers comp and liability insurance. And their license number.
A legitimate business will have no problems providing you with that information.
Retired roofer first you give written estimate. Than if you bid is entertained, written contract. Other actions unscrupulos.
I had a Roofer ask to borrow my Extension Ladder, with leveling feet. I said, No, due to liability. It’s can be tricky to set up. He got into an argument with me and took the Ladder. Called the Sheriff and I made him sweat it out on being arrested for theft.
Rule #1: Thoroughly ready ANYTHING before signing.
@@Chat562 I am a retired realtor that gets roofing solicitations all the time in emails. I became disabled and no longer live in a house. I rent and so their efforts of trying to sell me something is a click block away.

He is definitely a scammer!!
No ladder, no tools... this scammer is not bonded and insured... he'll never do the work to completion, probably never start any real work, and will sue for fake injury claims and cause your homeowners insurance to balloon exponentially.
There is a 3 day right of rescission on any contract you sign if It is signed at your home.
It didn't go into why she replaced him, explain whether the adjuster thing made the cancelation fee invalid, or go into other legal reasons the cancelation fee was invalid.
don't sign anything people.
Then they won't work for you
No contract, no money!

Just another reason NOT to use a POC for any job. Boggles my mind.
The takeaway is, the man is a charlatan and is taking advantage of people. Who does that to a lady so sweet? 🤬
Stay away from this roofing company.
Simple rule get as many free quotes as you want, and make sure they are free, but don’t sign anything with anyone other then the contractor you give the job to, and read every page of the contract, to ensure it is exactly what you want.
He is simply a grifter.
Her invoice is just as good as the roofers.
Do not sign any kind of document unless you know exactly what it involves. Guy definitely seems shady but she may be stuck with that cancellation fee if it’s in writing.
