One of the things I love the most about this movie is that when Kyle talked about his picture of Sarah he said he always wondered what she was thinking about. When the picture was taken, she was thinking of him.
There's more to it than that. John would have listened to the tapes and would have heard that exchange and KNOWN that picture was taken while she was thinking about Kyle. John gave it to his father knowing his mother loved him. It would have been the ONLY time in all their lives when, across space and time, John/Kyle/Sarah were a loving family.
@@rottieshepcalibre9156 It was confirmed in T2 that he knew who his father was, therefore we can probably assume that either Sarah told him or he heard the tapes. In a deleted T2 scene, the T-1000 goes to John's room to search for clues tapes are seen in a box. From that we can make the educated guess that he had listened to them but I could be wrong.
One romantic bit for Amber to hold onto: When Kyle was talking about the photograph of Sarah he carried, he said he always used to stare at it and wonder what she was thinking about. Because of the last scene of the movie, we know that, in the moment that photo was taken, she was thinking about Kyle. Also, I'll join the chorus of people suggesting you react to the sequel as well. "Terminator 2" is one of the few times when a sequel to a movie is at least as good, if not better, than the first one. Where "Terminator" was more of a sci-fi/horror, "Terminator 2" is much more of a sci-fi/action movie, so I think you'll actually like it better than the first one. Also, the FX improve a lot in the sequel (because the budget got A LOT bigger), so you get less of the questionable prosthetics and stop-motion animated robots. Oh! And you get a lot more Arnold as well. Anyway, great reaction, y'all! I wasn't sure how this one was gonna go and thought some of the scenes might be "too much" for one or both of you but it's cool that you're hanging in there and still enjoying the stories in films like this. Because, yeah, the story and world of the Terminator series is really interesting and well done. Can't wait for your next reactions. Maybe a light, fun one for you, like "Back To The Future" or "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?"
Well said and I concur. T2 is my personal favorite. In fact, I almost forgot just how non human the terminator was in the first movie. Brutal and ruthless sticking to his programming with relentlessness.
It's also the movie with the line that triggers modern day alphabet mafia, intersectionality, transgender, gender identity, religious cultists.♂️=🍆 ♀️=🌹
Terminator 2 is probably the best sequel I've seen. It's a great film, with a much bigger budget than terminator, and has some amazing live action and CGI scenes that still look great today. Great plot, action, characters, etc. I'm sure you are going to get tons of people telling you to watch it, and they are right.
I would recommend reacting to Terminator 2 while this movie is still fresh in your mind. As others have said, it's one of the best sequels of all time.
- Yes, absolutely I sure hope they hurry up and do a Terminator 2 reaction (If they haven't already, but I'm pretty sure I didn't see it in their stuff yet.)
The doctor missing the Terminator walking into the police station is so both important and Almost prophetic for the second film..... which by the way is probably the best of them
The doctor doesn't age much in 9 years to the 2nd one, he looks exactly the same. I guess when you're ugly to start with you can't really go down hill from there.
For what it's worth, there is a cut scene when , Sara and Reese are escaping the police station, they encounter the now dying head cop. He hands Reese his gun and tells him to protect Sara. Meaning, he knows Reese isn't crazy. It should have been left in the movie
There's another one with him and Lance Henriksen talking about Reese's interrogation. Lance: "This guy is nuts right? I mean that's moon-talk!" Det. Traxler, staring into the middle distance with a bit of a concerned expression: "He better be."
The novelization makes it very clear Traxler believes Reese too. Traxler was a Vietnam war vet, and noticed the way Kyle explained the situation. Too much like a real soldier too be lying.
"This is a nightmare!" You're absolutely right, James Cameron first had the idea for The Terminator after having a nightmare of a robot skeleton walking out of flames, and then wrote the rest of the story around that image!
I believe Cameron also said in an interview that the model for the Terminator was Michael Myers. So, when you look at this one, you can definitely see The Boogeyman. haha
Actually after it was released, the sci-fi writer Harlan Ellison (d. 2018) threatened to sue Cameron for plagiarising his works. Ellison claimed Cameron based Terminator on two of his episodes "Soldier" and "Demon with a Glass Hand" from the hit TV show The Outer Limits (and possibly from Ellison's novel 'I Have no Mouth and I Must Scream'). Orion Pictures reckoned there was enough there to take Ellison's claim seriously. Apparently Cameron gave Starlog magazine an interview and, according to Ellison, in the original transcript of the piece, Cameron says that he got the idea for Terminator from a handful of Outer Limits episodes. Ellison also claims that another acquaintance reported to him that he’d heard Cameron boast that he’d “ripped off a couple of Harlan Ellison stories” in the writing of Terminator. However Ellison's complaint was never formally filed as a lawsuit, so all the negotiations and the settlement by the studio were done out of court. Harlan received a lump sum of money in the vicinity of $65,000 with another additional sum to be paid later and that all future publications of The Terminator on home release and broadcasts on TV would feature acknowledgements to the works of Harlan Ellison. Cameron called Ellison a "parasite who can kiss my ass" because of this. Ellison also claimed that if James Cameron had approached him and said he wanted to do his own take on his ideas; that Harlan would have allowed Cameron to do it for free had he just thanked him in the end credits of the movie.
@@LA_HA Yes definitely, and there are many tropes from other 80's horror movies. Everything thing from the somewhat rude roommate and boyfriend getting killed to the serial killer coming back to life over and over.
Terminator 2 is so amazing - please say you're going to watch that one as well. The effects alone will make it worth it, but even better, Linda Hamilton's character progression is the best.
Hi you gotta see terminator 2. Everything makes sense like Sarah driving into mexico ...how her son acts.. How spectacular her character acts all seamlessly fitting into its natural progression. I just want you guys to enjoy it. It's worth it. When this movie came out the ONLY sequels that were great were back to the future ,Indiana jones, star wars and this. It was b4 LOTR..✌
Little tidbit of information: The gang member at the beginning with the tire marks and spiked blue hair was none other than actor Bill Paxton (R.I.P.), who also starred alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in True Lies and Commando. One of the best movies Bill Paxton starred in, and a favorite of mine, was the 1996 thriller Twister that’s directed by the director of Speed, Jan de Bont and produced by the producer of Jurassic Park, Steven Spielberg and is a great movie to check out.
And the other punk character (the one who got gutted if I remember correctly) is played by Brian Thompson, a regular in more B roles. He shows up in Buffy the Vampire Slayer twice, The X-Files, and Star Trek Enterprise.
@@bankbarcomo806 not to mention Cobra, with Sly Stallone. And Alien Nation with Mandy Patakin. He was also in DSNine and starred in the short lived Werewolf
Holy crap. You guys have the MOST REAL reaction I have ever seen to this movie. This is EXACTLY the same thoughts, confusion and curiosity people had in 1984 when this movie was first released in theaters. No one knew what was the deal with the murders of Sarah Connor, most thought both of the time travelers were evil. It felt sinister, merciless and like a horror tech noire movie. It was so refreshing to see two people react to this timeless classic and have the same reaction as the whole world in the 80s. Thanks!
"Are we 'Back To The Future?'" No, that's an entirely different movie. One that you two should absolutely do a reaction for. Geez, I was worried about you guys doing the Indiana Jones series, but if you can handle this, then Indy's adventures should be no problem for you.
@@Mr.Ekshin if you want to go watch the movie, go watch the movie. This is a reaction channel. If you came here, it was to see his (their) reaction, not the movie. So why would you complain about getting just that, their reaction? I get it, logic is a tough concept for you; but get a clue dude.
@@simplesimon8586 - I only made it a few minutes into this one, then bolted. That guy is annoying AF. I know that is probably a tough concept for you, that someone could come here... not like what they saw... drop some constructive criticism... and then leave.
Bill Paxton was the guy with the Mohawk that the Terminator killed in the beginning. Lance Henriksen played one of the detectives. Jeanette Goldstein stars in the sequel. All three appeared together in Aliens and Near Dark. :)
This reaction was everything. Don't sleep on T2. It's such an amazing movie and a perfect supplement to the story of The Terminator. One of the best if not THE best action films ever made, no cap.
I love how the first Terminator is like a Sci-Fi slasher movie and i respect how James Cameron droped most of the horror eliments and leaning more into the stunts and explosions makeing Terminator 2: Judgment Day more like a action movie... Kind of like what he did when makeing the movie Aliens
I saw this movie in 1984. It was so different from everything else we were seeing at the time, it was very interesting. And Arnold was pretty much new to the movie business at the time. Made him very famous. Also, actress Linda Hamilton became very famous as Sarah Connor but went on to do other really good stuff
I snuck into the theater to see this with my friends. We were in grade school. I remember thinking it was cool, but watching it now i cant help to wonder how this didnt freak me out at that age.
Let's not forget about Michael Biehn (Reese) who went on to appear as a main character in ALIENS and acted in a large number of other films, including TOMBSTONE.
Agree, It was also kind of a new emerging real-life fear for many people of machines and AI taking over the world which made the movie even that much more impactful. I still think the storyline is amazing and relevant even more so today but especially for that time.
10:10 "what is that?" a "Walkman" , which was a Mobile tape cassette player, before CD's, Minidiscs, Ipods and Phones, ...Analog Tape Cassettes and Vinyl(Records). You could buy albums on Tape, but also record on tape to,so would get mix tapes. This was a special moment for me, as Walkmans were a thing when I was a kid(I was born early 80;s) to hear someone say "what is that" was a proper "oh shit I'm old but that's also funny" moment hahaha
"Terminator 2" is one of the rarer sequels that blows the original out of the water. Linda Hamilton is a powerhouse in it. The special fX were groundbreaking & still used today. 🥂👍
T2 is for sure more technically superior in terms of the action ! scenes . But the original is still a classic !! Michael Biehn and Linda Hamilton's acting was hard to beat in this film .
Agreed. T2 Is amazing and an absolute must if you've seen the 1st. Stop after it though lol. They become more and more convoluted after 2 and it just dilutes the original plot.
This was actually Arnold's 2nd major movie, released in 1984. His first major movie was "Conan the Barbarian" in 1982 was also a big hit, based on a comic book character and did a sequel. Arnold did a couple of "B" type movies before the 1st Conan movie but they didn't do very well and his voice was dubbed in one of them.
Fun fact: this was probably one of the first blockbusters where the script was written in a car. James Cameron had some trouble making his monthly rent and was probably avoiding his landlord so he wrote the script in the back seat of his car over the course of several days, munching on 2-for-1 burgers from McDonalds. The dude knows how to multitask!
YEEEEESSSS!!!!! This one and T-2 are the best of the Terminator series, absolute perfection. Gonna get dinner going and kick back with RSR tonight for this one! Last Action Hero from '93 is a fantastic and heavily underrated Arnold movie that's so much fun, more of a comedy action than serious. Really hope you give T2 a chance, totally different flavor to this yet still carries the continuity beautifully. (Also, LOVE Michael Biehn!!! 💕✨)
Yes. T2 is one of the best sequels ever, hands down. Fits perfectly into the story, advances the overall story without trying to just repeat what was done before... too bad T3 didn't work as well, it had such promise
@@d.kyrstede8185 He was so great! I hear tell they originally wanted Alan Rickman for the part but Charles Dance was perfect casting, loved him as Tywin as well. :)
I didn't like Last Action Hero quite as much but I also recommend it as an Arnold movie to see. I think True Lies was better, but they all warrant a reaction!
30 years later and Terminator 2 Judgement Day is STILL considered to be one of the greatest action/sci-fi movies of all time. But don't watch the extended version on first viewing. Yes, it has some good extras, but for some reason they've stuck the alternate ending onto the extended edition, instead of just including it as an extra. The theatrical ending is better.
You must have a different version than me... my Extended edition has the regular ending, and the alternative one as an extra in the DVD menu ! ( P.S.: I live in Europe... Portugal to be precise !)
Concerning the car alarm issue: Yes, car alarms did exist in the early 80s, but typically only rich people had them (I wasn't alive yet, but I was alive in the late 80s and early 90s when car alarms first started becoming something that "regular people" might have). So unless you were trying to break into a Rolls Royce or something, there was very little chance of an alarm going off.
Car alarms were around in the 1970s but they were never standard equipment: you had to buy it as an accessory and fit it yourself or pay an auto electrician for a fair few hours to fit it for you.
Well , there were alarms but not many people had them. They were accessories rather than standard equipment. They had a few different tones . Damn, you made me access some early childhood memories.
You could start a whole bunch of cars from that period simply by forcing a screwdriver in the ignition keyhole and turning it to break the lock. It wasn't until the 90s that immobilisers starting becoming common place.
As many reactions as I've seen to this classic, I think of all of them your reaction really encapsulates why The Terminator feels like a horror movie above everything else, even though it's obviously a sci-fi action movie as well. The movie is full of tension and dread. A cold, relentless, emotionless evil machine who will stop at nothing to kill it's main target. The movie doesn't waste any time either. It's fast-paced, but at the same time all of the exposition happens perfectly, like the way that the future scenes are explained through Reese's nightmares and the way we see the cyborg slowly shedding it's human skin and becoming more and more machine-like throughout the movie . A prime example of "show don't tell" storytelling. No spoon-feeding or holding the viewer's hand. The movie lets us figure it all out from great storytelling.
@@bankbarcomo806 I never watched passed T2. I was pretty turned off, because it essentially meant that T2 didn’t mean anything. T2 was intended as the final installment. T3 was just a cash-grab.
@@crawdaddy1234 Maybe so, but I was annoyed at the end of T2 because of the consequences I expected to happen in a time-travel movie, but third ironed that out for me. (Not by giving me what I expected, btw.)
I can't believe you guys cut one of the most iconic lines in movie history: "I'll be back." That's right up there with "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn" and "He's dead, Jim."
They were waiting for "I'll be back...with weapons..." LOL!! I have NEVER heard anyone refer to the T2 infamous line as "I'll be back...with weapons..."
The part that always gets me about the picture Reese had, he said she looked a little bit sad in the picture and he always wondered what she had been thinking about……..well she was thinking about him. 🥺😢💚
it's mind blowing to watch people who've never seen the film and going in fresh. i saw this when it came out and is a classic. best of the series by far and such a product of the era.
I too saw it in the Theater. And I liked it, especially the Sci/Fi elements. But, I like T2 better. I was never a Horror (which this movie is) fan, and T2 is more Action/Thriller.
Great reaction you two! 😊 This one , and the next one "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" are my two favorites in the Terminator series. I very highly recommend the 1988 Arnold Schwarzenegger comedy movie "Twins". Looking forward to the next reaction. 😊
Yes, this movie was a great sci fi and Arnold movie - great choice. Please try the extended, director's cut of "Alien" which is largely regarded as a masterpiece. There are many "Alien" reaction videos, all that I've seen love the movie. "Aliens" (basically Alien 2) comes next and is widely copied.
When you think HOW good the special effects were for a movie made in 1984, The Terminator pretty much stands alone in that regard. Great, underrated plot too.
This is without question the PUREST reaction to this film I’ve ever seen. I think it’s great that you two went into this film knowing virtually nothing about it (other than the famous “I’ll be back” line), and seeing you coming to understand the story as it progressed was really rather exceptional. I think it’s exactly the type of reaction James Cameron was aiming for when he wrote and directed this film, and I think if he saw this video (and I hope he does one day), he’d really be delighted. I know I was! Although this wasn’t Arnold Schwarzenegger’s first film, it was pretty much the film that solidified his status as an international superstar. Initially he tried out for the Kyle Reese role, but James Cameron thought he’d be better suited to playing the Terminator, and as you can see, that was an extremely wise choice. He was perfect for the role, especially at that point in time in his career. His debut was in 1970 in a little independent comedy called HERCULES GOES TO NEW YORK, where his lines were dubbed over by another actor, but his film career didn’t start picking up speed until the late 70s. He had a supporting part in the Bob Rafelson comedy drama STAY HUNGRY (1976), with Jeff Bridges and Sally Field, and was featured in the 1977 documentary PUMPING IRON. He also costarred with Kirk Douglas and Ann-Margret in the 1979 Western comedy THE VILLAIN, which is much like a live action Looney Tunes cartoon. But then he starred in John Milius’ epic adventure CONAN THE BARBARIAN (1982), which definitely made him well known to the public at large, since it was a popular hit. However, he still was considered by some to be little more than a cinematic anomaly, a big bodybuilding hunk of meat with a funny accent. That image really changed with this film. Now he was seen as an actor who could effectively give a performance as an intimidating, imposing existential threat. The Terminator was SCARY. And that really helped to build Arnold’s reputation as an action star. The rest is movie history. Definitely you should see TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY (1991). It’s one of the rare sequels that is in many respects better than the original, while still maintaining a strong continuity with the 1984 film. A few scenes and shots in TERMINATOR 2 deliberately echo and parallel the original film, so keep your eyes open for those. They can be very satisfying. I also strongly recommend that you see James Cameron’s other films, ALIENS (1986) (provided you see Ridley Scott’s 1979 film ALIEN first), THE ABYSS (1989), and TRUE LIES (1994), as well as (if you like) his Oscar winning epic TITANIC (1997), and AVATAR (2009).
This was one of the purest reactions I've seen to this classic. when most people watch it, even if they haven't seen the movie. Most of the time they at least know that Arnold is a robot. The fact that Amber didn't made it so good. And watching people react to 80's cars being stolen 🤣 "didn't cars have alarms back then?" Short answer, no. most didn't. And they could be that easy to steal. (not that i ever did that when i was young and foolish) 😇
I worked in a grocery store throught the mid to late 80's and we had a store manager who was a total dick. He was one of the first people I knew who had a car alarm (on his Trans Am) and it would go off if you just pulled the door handle. He would have to go out to turn it off. We used to pull the handle constantly just to piss him off.
Arnold's acting is underrated in general, and especially in this movie. It isn't easy to so *convincingly* play a literal machine, and he absolutely nailed it like a champ. Some critics actually made fun of him for hardly having any lines and not having to act, but they're ignorant. Anyone who has seen Arnold in real life knows that he is actually very warm, personable, and human. Those who know him personally say that he makes everyone around him feel important, and definitely not like they're being hunted down by an unfeeling monster of a robot. Arnold's own mother says that she can't watch this movie because she can't stand seeing her son like this--that's how effective his acting was. And I realize that you haven't seen many (any?) of his other movies, but he is anything but robotic in them. Even when he's playing a human "killing machine" (i.e. someone who kills a lot of bad guys), he is quite charismatic while doing this--nothing like the cold, creepy, nightmarish thing he plays in _The Terminator_ .
agreed. according to the trivia in IMDB he worked hard to disasseble & reassemble blind folded, reloading without looking at what he was doing, firing ambidextrously and without blinking
I don’t think of Arnold as a “good actor”, but in this movie (and the second) I feel like he delivered a very good performance as a machine… I agree with ya, but just exclusively in this tho
It really stands the test of time from 1984... Originally, the concept of the 'Terminator' was an assassin, which could blend into a crowd... Lance Henriksen was cast as the Terminator... Arnold Schwarzenegger was originally cast as the soldier who protects Sarah Connor. However, after Arnold read the script, he asked the director James Cameron to recast him as the Terminator... he wanted to portray the cyborg as a giant killing machine, rather than a faceless assassin. So changes were made... Arnold became the Terminator, Lance Henriksen was recast as a police detective (He was cast in 'Aliens' in 1986 as the android 'Bishop'). Which left the role of the soldier 'Kyle Reese'... they cast actor Michael Biehn as the hero. This role made Arnold Schwarzenegger's career... he got roles in 'Commando'... 'Twins'... 'Predator'... 'Total Recall' ... after that... Then, he reprised his role as the Terminator in 'T2: Judgement day'.
Arnie appeared in some truly memorable movies of the 80s and a few in the 90s. True Lies, Predator, The Running Man, Kindergarten Cop, Commando, and i'm sure there are many more xx Great reaction as always xx
FYI, there are three versions of Terminator 2: theatrical, special, & extended. Only the first two have the original official ending, hence stay away from the 3rd.
You may lol at the special effects now but these blew my 8 year old mind (The Eighties were a wild time and a lot of kids were allowed to watch movies they probably shouldn't have). James Cameron is a master of special effects. This movie had a tiny budget and what him and his team achieved is remarkable. For the tanker explosion they were unable to get a permit, allowing for such a large explosion, so they built a 5 to 1 scale model. The first attempt at getting the shot was unsuccessful, so they had to rebuild the giant truck model all over again, only to blow it up...again! Obviously, I love this movie and out of the entire film, I'd say the Tech Noir club is my favourite scene. Everything about it is so Eighties, but to me it has almost a dream like, ethereal quality. It's helped a lot by the amazing song "Burning In the Third Degree", sung by Tahnee Cain. A song that has been part of the soundtrack to my life. It's lyrics and that voice reached something inside, when I was very young. I adore this James Cameron masterpiece, and look forward to seeing what you two think of the most worthy sequel of all time "T2".
Now that you've seen this one, I'd HIGHLY recommend following it up with the next in the series, and one of my all time favourite movies, 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day'. It really adds to the whole story, adding information that wasn't included in the first one, expanding on already existing information, and they really stepped up the special effects BIG TIME. Cannot wait for it!
Oh my gosh guys! I love your reactions! 1. You are so authentic, it's a joy to watch 2. You are so funny 3. You are so young that you don't know actors or movies I grew up with, it's funny! It's crazy to see you react for the first time to classics I've watched at least 20 times! It's like a different dimension! Hhahaha Keep doing this please!
Imagine how it would be, if you see this movie back in the days as a teen. It was a stunning experience. We walked days later like a terminator saying "II'll be back". Part two is amazing too.
yup... I have always thought the second one was better.... but this is a classic and I am so glad you watched it!!! You laugh at the special effects now.... but in 1984... this was cutting edge tech and we all watched with our mouths hanging open... No cell phones, no internet, personal computers were still in the future... This was amazing to us!!
Hey, I had an Atari 600XL when this came out. 16K RAM and a 256 color palette! It was a pretty good machine for its time, but home computers were still far from common.
Hey Jordan and Amber, in one of the scenes after Reese and Sarah Conner escaped from the terminator at the police station, Sarah asked Reese to tell her about who John's father was, so in Sarah's words,"That She wouldn't tell him to get lost" and Reese told her that all he'd knew about John's father was that he'd died before the war with the machines
Terminator 2 "Judgement Day" is the sequel, and was a really big deal when it was released! This is my favorite of the franchise. You gotta see this one. It explains a whole lot!
Arnie only has so much to do in this one...you will definitely like the 2nd one better if you are a really gigantic fan of his...he has much more fun in the sequel. 💯✌
Imagine it's 1984 and you are 7 years old and watched The Terminator for the first time. That was my experience and it left an obscure and undescribable impression on me. The sequel is arguably better but the first one is pure nostalgia.
I had thus exact response first time I saw T2, I was 7 when that came out. I had no idea what the Terminator was and the story for the most part went over my head I think, but that didn't stop me bawling my eyes as a kid as that thumbs up gets raised.
I'm your age and it was a crazy time to be born and love Sci-Fi. Star Wars was regularly on TV and watched time and time again. Everything from Terminator, Aliens to even stuff like Flash Gordon (which is an incredibly fun film and I will die on that hill!). Great times!
Awesome reaction! You have to watch part 2! Kindergarten Cop and True Lies are great action comedies with Arnold. He also did a really good sci-fi action movie called Total Recall.
10:08 I really feel old now 😂 confused to not knowing what a Walkman is 😂 Also, if you do watch Terminator 2, watch the extended cut (if able to). It has a few extra scenes that will be pretty beneficial to the story.
I can’t wait for you two to see his other movies. Predator, Total Recal, The Running Man, so much for you guys to see. 80s and 90s movies were the best.
5:08 -- Hi Jay.. That's a 1984 Honda Helix. In their time, they were pretty amazing.. Something like 100mpg, and they were fast enough to go on the highway..
Arnold's break out role was as Conan in 'Conan The Barbarian'. It was his 10th movie. James Earl Jones (Darth Vader) starred as Thulsa Doom. The Terminator was Arnie's 13th movie.
T2 was a blockbuster success and surpassed T1 by leaps in story and technology. There are also a few interesting twists. Can't wait for you to see them.
Fun fact, the weapons are not lasers but plasma. Lasers are light where as plasma is burning hot molten, ionized gases. Its the 4th state of matter. Examples of plasma include stars like our sun, plasma balls (the glass orbs with purple electricity in them you saw in science class that made your hair raise when touching it) neon lights and lightning temporary flash fries the air it touches into plasma. So remember, lasers are energy weapons but not all energy weapons are lasers. Glad you enjoyed the movie.
So glad you guys liked this! Can't wait for you to react to terminator 2. It's amazing! And I could be wrong, but I think Arnold's first movie role was Conan the Barbarian 😀
Before The Terminator, there’s the crappy so-bad-it’s-good Hercules In New York, the decent documentary, “Pumping Iron”, and the excellent movie, “Stay Hungry” Starring Jeff Bridges. All worth seeing for different reasons. I can’t remember if Conan came out first or not. I think it was by maybe two years.
I always liked that part where Reese mentions how he always wondered what Sarah was thinking about in that picture he had of her, and at the end we learn that she was actually thinking about him. That's kinda nice.
This was all Jim Cameron--the same guy who brought us Avatar, True Lies and Titanic. Brilliant. Genius. This was, like, his second time directing, and he did this film on a shoestring budget, but this is the one that catapulted his career. Amber, I know this one was ROUGH. I think you will find T-2, the sequel, a bit easier to take. Cameron backed off the gore in that one (thank goodness), but the story is just as good. : ) "Terminator: Dark Fate" is the only other sequel worth watching (because Cameron was in on that one, too), but I recommend you watch "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" first. ; )
The thing I like the most about this movie is that's a horror movie dressed as an action movie..... Poor Sarah can't catch a break 😓.... Glad that you liked it, greetings from Spain, and can't wait to see the reaction of the sequel (T2 doesn't get's old, he only gets better with time;)
Paulie Luppino: That's because the Terminator is a technological version of Michael Myers from Halloween. If you realize this, the horror elements make a lot of sense
That is the most amazing thing; if he knew, like Sarah said, would it make a difference? I always think about it, and I’m sure it was Jim Cameron’s idea in the first place, all on purpose 😂😂😂
@@joaoluizfonseca6914 Reese knew he was Connor's dad. Watch the part where they're under the overpass, she's bandaging his arm, his eyes when she talks about Connor's father. He KNEW.
Terminator is an excellent movie, one of the greats! All future filmmakers should study this movie for its flawless execution of story telling. The effects may be dated, but for what was available at the time James Cameron made the best of it.
Aww man, the Matrix FX is tired looking now & that was the trippiest mind bender when it came out - so many novel effects & concepts. Still, take the very best special fx in 2022 and look again in 38 years - you'll be making better home videos with your Samsung brain implants by then.
The only thing I'll say about part 2 - you'll see that doctor again. Aside from that, Terminator 2 kicks sooooo much behind! I do believe this was Arnold's first movie using his "I'll be back" line. You'll see that line again. Of course, you gotta see part 2! Some other Arnold movies you'll get a kick out of: Conan Conan the Barbarian Commando Predator True Lies Total Recall Last Action Hero Twins Kindergarten Cop I'm sure I'm missing some good films but you definitely need to see these movies! Another time-traveling trilogy worth watching is the Back to the Future movies.
Yes, yes YES! to that whole list. Although the two Arnold movies at the start of that list are Conan the Barbarian (1982) and Conan the Destroyer (1984). Another couple of Arnold films to add to that list of primo 80's/90's action and comedy fare are Red Sonja, Raw Deal, Red Heat, Junior, and Eraser.
Now, you have to watch terminator 2! I remember when this movie came out. I had just started working out with weights and was really in shape for the first time in my life (or close to getting there).. and then I found out I was pregnant with twins and had to stop the work outs and go on bed rest. I loved this movie.. I remember going to the theater and not hardly moving from my seat! Again, you will LOVE terminator 2. One of the best sequals made, other than the Godfather.. I think!
This is an all time 80's classic! Great reaction today guys! Amber's expressions are just too cute. Haha! 😄 I can't wait to see what you have cued up for Female Friday! Have a great weekend! 😃👍
James Cameron became a household name after this movie. He made this movie on a whopping 1 million dollar budget and for its time, it was considered a game changer for the sci-fi genre.
You provided me with the exact reaction I was expecting. 😀 I loved that Amber said “I thought the terminator would be good”. Very ironic statement. I think the whole concept of the TERMINATErrr had not yet sunk in. Terminator II seems like a logical choice for your next film. Very enjoyable reaction, keep up the good work guy’s. ♥️✌🏼😎
15:20: He burnt them in the explosion when Kyle shot a car exhaust pipe, blowing it up, shortening the Terminator's hair, and singing off his eyebrows.
Actually, Jordan, Arnold had been acting for quite a while by the time "The Terminator" was released His first movie was a movie titled, "Hercules In New York" and his dialogue in that movie was dubbed largely due to the factct that his German accent was so thick that the producers thought the audience would have trouble understanding what he was saying
Amber, When this came out, I wouldn’t go see it because I knew it was violent. I finally saw it and now it’s one of my all-time favorites. Classic movie! 😃
Props for finally watching this!! I first watched this as a youngster. I was somewhere around 4 to 6 when I first watched the movie. SCARED ME SO BAD!! hahaha, totally worth it though. :)
Loving your movie reactions. You guys have such a great dynamic, and you're both very insightful. I watch your music reactions all the time, but this is a whole new level of fun seeing movies through your eyes!
My brother & I watched this together and loved your reactions. I was 12 when he took me to see this movie in the theaters. Scared the heck out of me! The woman that played Sarah's roommate is Bess Motta. She was part of an early '80s exercise television show called, The 20 Minute Workout.
I used to watch that every morning, but I could never keep up with them. I think 16 minutes was the longest I could ever make it. "Three more... two more... one more... run in place!"
Just finished watching it and while I love your reaction to this film, you gotta watch it sequel! Terminator two is one of the few sequels that actually out does the original! Watch the others at your own risk but definitely watch terminator two. If you can, find it and it’s uncut form! The theatrical cut is good too though.
You have to do T-2 (the sequel), this one and the second one are the best from the series. “Predator” and “True Lies” are other Arnold movies worth checking out.
Great reaction to a masterpiece of the 80s on a limited budget! You have to watch the sequel now. On a bigger budget T2 is regarded as one of if not the greatest sequels of all time. Peace to the squad. Love from the UK
Terminator 2 is a must see.
It's the best out of all the terminators
Agreed
Absolutely.
How about no!

One of the things I love the most about this movie is that when Kyle talked about his picture of Sarah he said he always wondered what she was thinking about. When the picture was taken, she was thinking of him.
That's kind of a mind blowing loop.
@@chaospoetJohn may not have heard the tapes
@@rottieshepcalibre9156 It was confirmed in T2 that he knew who his father was, therefore we can probably assume that either Sarah told him or he heard the tapes. In a deleted T2 scene, the T-1000 goes to John's room to search for clues tapes are seen in a box. From that we can make the educated guess that he had listened to them but I could be wrong.
That's so deep I'm drowing!
_Sees a Walkman_
"What is that?"
Make me feel even older, why don't you!
Lmao!
OMG YES!! 😭😭😭
i was looking for this comment XD no way they asked what a walkman was im only 32..... damn im 32 XD
Yeah, I’ve always been of the opinion that T1 was a sci-fi horror tragic romance film.
Back to the Future would be a great one for them to react to! One of the all time classic 80's movies!
@@geeebuttersnap2433 Yep, T1 was horror influence sci-fi.
T2 was action movie influenced sci-fi.
Same with Alien and Aliens.
Well said and I concur. T2 is my personal favorite. In fact, I almost forgot just how non human the terminator was in the first movie. Brutal and ruthless sticking to his programming with relentlessness.
Yes Terminator 2: Judgement Day was the best Terminator movie in my opinion!
As teachers, you should watch Kindergarten Cop. It shows Arnold's funny side.
It's also the movie with the line that triggers modern day alphabet mafia, intersectionality, transgender, gender identity, religious cultists.♂️=🍆 ♀️=🌹
"It is Not a Tumor"
Yes I agree!
Twins as well
100% agree! Great comedic Arnold movie.
Aliens is a great sequel too.

You asked if there were any sequels…..yes….5 total. I won’t try to name them. But T1 and T2 were the best.
Agreed. That's the one scene that I WISH Cameron hadn't left on the cutting room floor.
@@ro4evahere's hoping there's a directors cut for the 40th anniversary and they can insert that scene
There's another one with him and Lance Henriksen talking about Reese's interrogation.
Lance: "This guy is nuts right? I mean that's moon-talk!"
Det.
James Cameron's nightmare what Terminator was called back In the Day. And Steel mill In T2 was James Cameron's inferno. 🙃

Epic Arnie, you gotta do the sequel. Great reaction guys.

@@The_Blue_Otaku well, in many ways, T2 is the same movie, but with a twist. And an other genre.
I saw this movie in 1984. It was so different from everything else we were seeing at the time, it was very interesting. And Arnold was pretty much new to the movie business at the time. Made him very famous. Also, actress Linda Hamilton became very famous as Sarah Connor but went on to do other really good stuff
It was awesome seeing it on the big screen back then!
Linda had 2 movies come out the same summer, Terminator and Children of the Corn.

I thought the original was ok, but it wasn’t really my genre. I loved Terminator 2 though.
Terminator 2 is the greatest action movie ever imo.
T2 is for sure more technically superior in terms of the action ! scenes . But the original is still a classic !! Michael Biehn and Linda Hamilton's acting was hard to beat in this film .

Conan was a popular comic book in the 70s and 80s but the character didn’t originate from comics, he was a pulp fiction character from the 30s.
Oh I forgot about Conan
Yes! Conan the Barbarian is a classic! Not only Arnold, but James Earl Jones as Thulsa Doom!
Hercules in New York was his very first movie that he stared in
Nope, Arnold did a few movies and TV shows before Terminator
Fun fact: this was probably one of the first blockbusters where the script was written in a car. James Cameron had some trouble making his monthly rent and was probably avoiding his landlord so he wrote the script in the back seat of his car over the course of several days, munching on 2-for-1 burgers from McDonalds. The dude knows how to multitask!
YEEEEESSSS!!!!! This one and T-2 are the best of the Terminator series, absolute perfection. Gonna get dinner going and kick back with RSR tonight for this one!
Enter The Club, steering wheel locks
Car alarms were around in the 1970s but they were never standard equipment: you had to buy it as an accessory and fit it yourself or pay an auto electrician for a fair few hours to fit it for you.
Well , there were alarms but not many people had them. They were accessories rather than standard equipment. They had a few different tones . Damn, you made me access some early childhood memories.
You could start a whole bunch of cars from that period simply by forcing a screwdriver in the ignition keyhole and turning it to break the lock. It wasn't until the 90s that immobilisers starting becoming common place.
@@busimagen It was always fancy BMWs with the trippy alarms lol

Agreed, I really appreciated their fresh/ honest experience.
If y'all think people know nothing about these films y'all are gullible as hell lol
@@MrGrifter123
Didn't you get a lawyer? A.I.
You got the line wrong. It's "I'll be back WITH WEAPONS", actually.
You do realise they they have seen the movie previously and this is all an act?
I agree. Especially considering the amount of praise that Robert Patrick received as the emotionless, cold T1000 in T2. Arnold did great.
@@joaoluizfonseca6914he was awesome in Predator, and total recall
I liked him in Terminator: Dark Fate, because he was playing a machine that was learning to be human.
You forgot Total Recall. “Come on Cohaagen, give these people air!”
twins also good
@@caseymoe816 "Get Your Ass To Mars"
@@CPny65 “Get to duh choppa!” 😂😁🤣
Big Arnie's film catalogue is well worth exploring... He is a superstar for a reason.
I don't remember Arnold saying,"I'll be back with weapons," I remember it as simply, "I'll be back."
FYI, there are three versions of Terminator 2: theatrical, special, & extended. Only the first two have the original official ending, hence stay away from the 3rd.
Arnold wasn't just an actor. He was one of the biggest stars ever.
*Looking forward to your reactions to the rest of The Terminator movies* 🔥
Stop after 2. They're awful after that.
Just 1 and 2. The rest are horrid.
@@davidstanton4716 no, I love them all!
@@davidstanton4716 lol agreed sad but agreed
@@GinaPressley Even Salvation? 😬
1. You are so authentic, it's a joy to watch
2. You are so funny
3. You are so young that you don't know actors or movies I grew up with, it's funny!
It's crazy to see you react for the first time to classics I've watched at least 20 times! It's like a different dimension! Hhahaha
Keep doing this please!
"The 80's, what a time to be dropped onto Earth", yes, I can relate to that.
Imagine how it would be, if you see this movie back in the days as a teen. It was a stunning experience. We walked days later like a terminator saying "II'll be back". Part two is amazing too.
I saw it over 80 times when I was a teen and then lost track. This is one of my favorite movies ever.
I was a pre teen and this movie still has the same effect. What happened to politic free movies? Extinct like the dinosaurs
This is the 1st movie reaction i ever watched and was surprised at how much i enjoyed watching the movie with you guys, here's to more.
Great flick choice @Rob Squad Movie Reactions!! This movie is great, but you may actually like Terminator 2: Judgement Day even more!
I almost had an aneurysm when he said he never seen a movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger in it .
And again when they didn't recognize a walkman .
I'm old😅
Hey Jordan and Amber, in one of the scenes after Reese and Sarah Conner escaped from the terminator at the police station, Sarah asked Reese to tell her about who John's father was, so in Sarah's words,"That She wouldn't tell him to get lost" and Reese told her that all he'd knew about John's father was that he'd died before the war with the machines
Terminator 2 "Judgement Day" is the sequel, and was a really big deal when it was released! This is my favorite of the franchise. You gotta see this one. It explains a whole lot!
"What is that?, I don't know what that is." The Walkman! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Goonies and Ghostbusters got a little tense for you guys, so I can’t wait to see your reaction to this.
Lol, I see what you did there. You’re funny ;)
Arnie only has so much to do in this one...you will definitely like the 2nd one better if you are a really gigantic fan of his...he has much more fun in the sequel. 💯✌
“I wouldn’t normally smile at a burning corpse but….” 🤣
Imagine it's 1984 and you are 7 years old and watched The Terminator for the first time.
Don't forget Read Heat, Twins, Eraser, the 6th day, Commando, Predator,
@@imthewolf1 yep! Also Junior with him and Danny DeVito
@@BrenJen86 it is called Twins
@@imthewolf1 they were also in Junior together. If you have t checked it out you should.
@@BrenJen86 OHHHHH I forgot about that one. Where Arnold has a baby. Lol
10:08 I really feel old now 😂 confused to not knowing what a Walkman is 😂
Also, if you do watch Terminator 2, watch the extended cut (if able to). It has a few extra scenes that will be pretty beneficial to the story.
But I didn't like the alternate ending they put in.
I can’t wait for you two to see his other movies. Predator, Total Recal, The Running Man, so much for you guys to see. 80s and 90s movies were the best.
Even more comedic roles like True Lies or Kindergarten Cop.
That movie was jaw-dropping back in the day and still is one of my favorite movies!
His first was really bad.
Excellent reaction! So wild and weird, watching you two, realizing you've never seen a bit of this movie!
Total Recall is pretty awesome too. :)
They should definitely do a weekly Schwarzenegger movie
So glad you guys liked this! Can't wait for you to react to terminator 2. It's amazing! And I could be wrong, but I think Arnold's first movie role was Conan the Barbarian 😀
There's a couple before like Hercules In New York that is ever so bad and Arnold's voice was dubbed.
@@JRcomments Hercules in New York, starring Arnold Strong.
Before The Terminator, there’s the crappy so-bad-it’s-good Hercules In New York, the decent documentary, “Pumping Iron”, and the excellent movie, “Stay Hungry”
Starring Jeff Bridges. All worth seeing for different reasons.
I can’t remember if Conan came out first or not. I think it was by maybe two years.
So it was Hercules in NY (1970) and Conan the Barbarian (1982). In between were bit parts in TV shows and movies.
@@gus9482 thanks, bro. And for anyone who is a true Ahnold fan, highly recommend both Pumping Iron and Stay Hungry.
T1 and T2 are timeless masterpieces for me. I'm eternally grateful that I've seen both.
: ) "Terminator: Dark Fate" is the only other sequel worth watching (because Cameron was in on that one, too), but I recommend you watch "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" first. ; )
First time watching, love you guys! Really genuine, great reaction. Looking forward to more. :)
Yep, sci-fi, horror, action on a low budget in the 80s. Perfect combination to push creativity. 👌
Can’t wait to see ya’ll react to Terminator 2. Reese died never knowing his friend, John Conor, was actually his son. It’s an amazing franchise.
He KNEW.
@@ericpeckham5709 maybe…. I like to believe he suspected something only because he was in love with her
Thanks!
Some other Arnold movies you'll get a kick out of:
Conan
Conan the Barbarian
Commando
Predator
True Lies
Total Recall
Last Action Hero
Twins
Kindergarten Cop
I'm sure I'm missing some good films but you definitely need to see these movies!
A strong female lead was rare back then. Sarah is a total badass.
@@blacksheep_edge1412 yes, thanks for correcting the title. The Conan films are fun to watch. I second the ones you mentioned!
@@backgroundmusik true that! From what I understand, she actually worked out under Arnie's care for her role in T2.
"Come with me if you want to live!" - 'yep, alright lets go'
Now, you have to watch terminator 2!
Haha! 😄
I can't wait to see what you have cued up for Female Friday! Have a great weekend! 😃👍
James Cameron became a household name after this movie. He made this movie on a whopping 1 million dollar budget and for its time, it was considered a game changer for the sci-fi genre.
❤I also loved Linda Hamilton (Sarah Conner) in the 1987 tv series 'Beauty & the Beast' with Ron Perlman!!!❤
You provided me with the exact reaction I was expecting. 😀
I loved that Amber said “I thought the terminator would be good”. Very ironic statement. I think the whole concept of the TERMINATErrr had not yet sunk in. Terminator II seems like a logical choice for your next film. Very enjoyable reaction, keep up the good work guy’s.
♥️✌🏼😎
No I think the first film is pretty solidly conceptualized.
15:20: He burnt them in the explosion when Kyle shot a car exhaust pipe, blowing it up, shortening the Terminator's hair, and singing off his eyebrows.
Actually, Jordan, Arnold had been acting for quite a while by the time "The Terminator" was released
His first movie was a movie titled, "Hercules In New York" and his dialogue in that movie was dubbed largely due to the factct that his German accent was so thick that the producers thought the audience would have trouble understanding what he was saying
"The Terminator is not a very nice person", you heard it here first folks :P
Great reaction guys, can't wait to see more :)
@@OneEyedJack1970 🤘 Yes! 🤘
I feel like the coda with Sarah in the Jeep talking to future John is what truly elevates this movie to one of the best films of its decade.
"True Lies" is his best movie, it has comedy interwoven and it is great.
Just finished watching it and while I love your reaction to this film, you gotta watch it sequel! Terminator two is one of the few sequels that actually out does the original! Watch the others at your own risk but definitely watch terminator two. If you can, find it and it’s uncut form! The theatrical cut is good too though.
I got a kick out of the "What is that" "I don't know what that is" to a Walkman, Damn I'm old
You have to do T-2 (the sequel), this one and the second one are the best from the series.

Absolutely!
I have T2 and Aliens as my top 2 sequels.
My favourite line was from Amber " dogs know a Cyborg" . Ha, ha, cracked me up!
I love Amber's soft exasperation with characters in these reactions. "Turn the wheel, darling" at 17:00 is so perfect.
