Lot of friends said this movie was horrible and such things... I don't get it. I just loved the movie and the soundtrack is flawless. Just flawless and epic. I guess people nowadays don't go with slow pacing sci-fi anymore, just explosions, lasers and kung fu things.
I like the movie, but I still think its rather average overall. This soundtrack is, as you said, flawless and excellent. Matt Damon's space-potato farm was similarly slow paced, but that was way more exciting for example.
I watched this film 4 days ago and i am glad i watched it before more time passed by. It is a beautiful love story woven with sci-fi and action. One of my favorite films of all times. Damn the reviews that say thinly scripted etc. If this is thinly scripted, there can never be a script really. The scenes between Tom and Olga are a dream to watch. One of those rare movies that linger in your head long after you finish watching. This film inspires me so much, to write, to paint, to dance, to sing. A beautiful creation. I am going to spread as much good word about this film as possible, that is my way of owning the film. Tom and Olga were just right in every frame they were together. I admire Tom and have tremendous respect for him for how much he gives himself to the movie. Always there, each time, every time. It must not be easy to put yourself out there so much and yet keep going unfazed despite so much criticism. I hope and wish everyone could get past his beliefs and relationships and just appreciate and applaud the artist that he is. Fortunate to be living in the times of Tom Cruise. He has built a great legacy. In the times to come, he will be the most remembered artist for the sheer body of his work. The genre of films that he has pushed and the commitment he makes to his films and fans. Tom is.. That's it.. Tom is...!!!
I feel the same as you, the movie is just beautiful, the story, the aerial selection, the humanity and the will not to give up for the human race. Tom Cruise really goes underappreciated, and i also haven't seen Olga in any other films yet even tho she made such good performance. Im gonna remember this movie my whole live and i will always take it with me. I dont really like Sci-Fi but this one is just brilliant!
Just the stark contrast aesthetic between the blasted Earth landscapes and the clean Alien AI tech makes the flick worth watching, but there's still all the rest of it. It's a gem.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched this movie and yet I still get teary and feel like standing up and applauding when it ends and this song kicks in. Truly masterpiece of a movie and incredible editing on this video.
This is really well put together and highlights just how gorgeous the film is. On a purely technical level it is outstanding, such a strong visual showcase.

I just love a good redemption story. I think everyone wishes they could redeem a mistake whether it was their fault or not. What's great about Oblivion is the visuals for one : it's an absolutely beautiful movie, the themes it experiments with : Cloning, a Soul, Reincarnation, Super AI, Brainwashing, Tragic Love, Tremendous Loss, Truth, Redemption. These are all well-worn themes. The soundtrack is powerful and slick. It's probably impossible to come up with a totally unique story that doesn't borrow from another even The Martian had Mission to Mars, both Rescue Mission movies, with a stranded Astronaut having to survive for an extended time on an inhospitable world. What I enjoyed about Oblivion and The Martian both is how they told their story. So even though I'm well-aware of the typical movie formulas I still enjoyed them both immensely. I only used the Martian for comparison because it has been mentioned numerous times already in the comments.
Frankly speaking, we are at begininnig of our heritage, our newborn people will remember this movie for its clean idea from a lot of other ones. Thanks for its clean Sci-fi

It's a great film with a great soundtrack. (how did 52 get a new jacket? and how did Julia end up in Tom's original life pod). nb Loved The Last Samurai too for similar reasons - Tom Cruise, Timothy Spall . The Asian actors were not only superb but had key roles. They really brought presence and atmosphere to the movie, together with a great soundtrack By the way..... In Oblivion Tom Cruise (aka 'Jack' again) called his nodding head figure 'BOB' He also nicknamed one of the Japanese characters 'Bob' ......... it's a Tom thing???
Watched the DVD again last night. A seriously underrated film that was all the better for using live action, props and beautiful location shots in preference to CGi.
Joseph Kosinski directed both Oblivion and Tron Legacy, you can say what you want about the plot of those movies, but visually they were stunning, and the art direction is amazing.
I just watched this movie again and all I can say is you can use this comment as the " This movie's story, atmosphere, soundtrack etc. are seriously underrated" button.
I'm a true Space Opera guy, so yes, I love a slow burn scifi. Oblivion was slightly above average, but when combining the pacing, music, and visuals, it made it a very great movie for people who love a good standard scifi/love/saving the world story. Especially when there is a void of good material nowadays. TRON Legacy is the same way, average movie, but when combining all the elements, it makes it greater than the main script.
There were some inconsistencies in the movie. At the beginning, the Scavs were shown as creatures that hopped around like dogs, then Drone 166 shoots one and its head rolls past the camera to show like a robot head, only to end up being humans..... That was not explained well. Jack was a Drone tech, We see him fix Drone 166, and its power core was the purple thing he sticks in the front and glues it in place with chewing gum because it wasn't aligned, yet at the end, when the drones were mass attacking the encampment, and the Tet blows up, all the drones fall down. But apart from that, Visually stunning........, the tech like the bubble ship, was stunning. Word has it that the props they used for the bubble ship blew Tom Cruise away when he first saw it. During the drone chase scene, with Tom and Olga zooming through the caverns and drone 166 is smashing them in to the wall, and Tom Flips the Bubble ship 90 degrees to fit through the crack, Tom turns around and says to Olga "Are you Okay ?", and she says "No !" was merely from the moment by the actors, because the actress was getting sick from the mount used for the cockpit, which was Gyroscopic 360 degrees of movement, and Tom kept flipping the cockpit on her for fun. You can see the restraint strap ends failing around when the cockpit mount is inverted, because the strap ends fall towards the actors faces.
