So glad you did this video. I use packing cubes and fill each cube with an entire outfit including belt, scarf and even accessories. I put a label on each cube that lists the day of the week, the time of day, etc. if I am repeating certain pieces, I still put the item on the inventory list and move them forward to the new cube when I take it off after the first wearing. Clothes I’m not repeating that need to be laundered go into a laundry bag. By the time I come home everything has been moved to the laundry bag. It makes unpacking easy too. I also have “fake” jewelry that I only use when I travel. I leave these in my suitcase for the next trip.

Great capsule! The only thing I would add is a bathing suit and a workout outfit if you're staying at a hotel that has a pool and gym.

Bless you this was wonderful and so helpful! All the verbal explanations and the still photos of each part and modeling of the outfits make it so understandable!
Cant wait fir my next weekend trip to use your ideas

I wear black pants, a turtleneck, a cashmere sweater, comfy slip on booties, and a jacket or coat. I have a scarf. I have a decent purse as my Nordace backpack. I also wear my compression socks for my travel days. I got a good carry on. Non wrinkle stuff and I use the cubes. Good advice! Shoes….a pair of dressier but light ones and something good for walking! I pack and repack to remove extras. Mix and match! I do plan and check out the weather! Good idea to do a travel video as we are starting to travel again!

I thought so too. I expect lots of people will be traveling.

I hope you at least had fun shopping for that winter coat in New York! Stretchy black pants are my "must have" for my days of actual travel. I take a lot of black and white tops and like to add colorful scarves or jewelry. On a trip a few years ago to Paris, I took some very low heeled black ankle boots that I loved and had worn often, but I failed to take into account that my feel would probably swell quite a bit in hot weather while walking. Lesson learned the hard way. I wore my real walking shoes for the rest of the trip!

Actually, I found it at the very first place I went - a white puffer. The flats took a little longer but after that we had a wonderful time. I think footwear is probably one of the most important considerations and one we don't often give much thought. I've learned the hard way too.

Love this capsule idea!! Using what I have helps the budget. I love clothes and like dressing up.over the decades, I have bought scarves that brighten up a basic color palette. I am ‘Autumn’ coloring: browns, golds, greens, ivory or tan. I cannot wear white. It washes me out.
But having capsules of clothing helps define my closet better. I had rather have fewer items and better quality. Buthelezi in garments and shoes/handbag category.

Solids go a long way when traveling! And the packable jacket either for warmth or rainy weather is must for any season when traveling. My go to is always pack items you can layer, weather can be so unpredictable. I like to carry a tote that zips, I speak from experience 😊

Outstanding video Sheila. Have played it twice already, and it may not be the last.
There's often a temptation to overpack, adding items at the last minute, just in case."Just in case" mostly doesn't happen so these hitch-hiker garments return home unloved.
My mode of transport to and from the holiday is a factor. Am amazed how compact and practical a holiday capsule is if it needs to fit in an overhead locker, whereas a road trip has the potential to expand! I had an epiphany on a multi-day hiking trip in my 40s, when I realized I had a house full of things back home, but all I needed for my survival was in my backpack. Not that it translates into other holidays - haha - when it's fun to draw up a packing list for events and activities on the itinerary.
I love the capsule you have showcased today.

I'm happy it was helpful. I know, we seldom wear those 'just in case' garments. As for what we need, it could fit in a backpack, but of course that's no fun.🙂

I always choose a color palate that mix and matches when we travel. Black, white, and usually blue or pink. My travel outfit is usually loose, soft cotton pants, a comfy shirt, and a jacket or sweater. Also I have 2 scarves that I take. I had to laugh when you said you were wrong about the San Francisco weather because the same thing happened to us. My husband is from the Bay Area so he knew it would be cold in June but I had no idea. I ended up freezing and buying a jacket that I still have lol.

Good point on “tried and true” comfortable shoes. I am a nurse, once I purchased a pair of New Balance shoes,
Athletic so should be comfortable in theory. However during my first 12 hours shift while wearing them they started hurting my feet. I wanted to cry, had no way to replace them, or leave to trade them out or call home. Never assume a shoe will be comfortable, never wore that pair again.

Hi Sheila. I see you included a white dress in your capsule. What do you think of white jeans also in the capsule? I know you shouldn't wear them on the plane or as your travel outfit, but do you think they are a good choice to be part of the capsule?

    Sheila, what is a capsule?

    • @StylebySheila
      @StylebySheila  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

A wardrobe capsule is a grouping of 8- 12 items that all mix and match.

To paraphrase Mark Twain: The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco. I live 25 miles East where it is moderate to hot in the summer. 25 miles further East and summer temps are in the triple digits.

I am an over packer always. I don’t care if it’s for a few days. I like to have choices. My husband will bring a small bag and I have a large suitcase. I have made many mistakes along the way. We lived in Ohio and were driving to Florida. We stopped at a motel in Georgia and went swimming. Well, I rinsed out mine and both my daughters suits. And we left them in the bathroom in the motel in Georgia. So we had to but new swim suits for all of us. I may have had an extra one. But I’m getting a new one too. Then about thirty years ago we went to LasVegas in August. Boy, that was a big mistake. The pool water was like a bathtub. And the heat was a killer. We stayed close to the hotel. We walked across the street to Denny’s to eat. And even then we had a lot of sand blown in our eyes. We went for the Police Olympics. My husband and his partner went to pitch horseshoes. They lasted 45 minutes and left. Both of their shirts were soaked from sweat. We want to go to Vegas again. But we sure won’t go in August. We all learned our lesson.

Checking the weather is so important. I had a similar experience - being at Disney World at the end May - it was hot! Too much heat when you aren't expecting it isn't fun.

Please distance yourself from Vivaia. Not even Discover can help one recover payment. Discover says this outfit is in Germany. It ships through Longo Customs Services in Illinois which has nothing but bad reviews. You seem like a nice person but promoting Vivaia seems to be promoting a scam.
