This was the best tutorial that I’ve seen. I saw one girl do it, it was 5 minutes so I was happy but it wasn’t that clear and as descriptive as this one. I like to know why we have to do some things so explaining all the scenarios and why you are doing it is such a relief. this was long ago but this was amazing

If you don’t want a zipper you can attach re-enforcements at each end, ie a star or an arrow. This secures your ends. Great video. Looked at a video where she says not to sew the ends, tried it…it does not work well…at least for me. Your tip of sewing down the tips is GREAT!

Very good tutorial, clearly explained and demonstrated. I am looking to put pockets in a coat I’m making later this summer. The wool fabric is too heavy to do much negotiating. This method should work perfectly. Thanks!
Steaming wool can also help it get the shape you want. Steamer and then place something on top of it, The technical turn is called a clapper. And then when it cools it will have taken a new shape.
Fantastic & logical...I made a mistake of trying to sew thru sticky velcro & messed up my needle so I'm a bit nervous about using anything sticky...maybe a basting stitch but I hate hand sewing too...l used alcohol to clean needle but it seemed to leave goo under feed dogs, so I had to take it apart. LOL! Thx for vid...keep them coming.
I think a little bit of sewing machine oil on your needle is probably one of the best ways to sew through sticky things. The other option is a silicone-based product. You're going to wipe your needle when it's all done I suggest acetone instead of alcohol. There is also a type of needle that is designed for sewing through sticky things. I'm trying to see if I can find some links for you. I haven't needed these products in a while.

Nice video. Have you ever used twin needles to do your double stitching. Saves time and then you also know that the distance between the rows is even. I use it for quilting and I love it....
Since the pocket stitching is hidden, it doesn't really matter if they are even. Plus since a double needle it's the same bobbin thread, so it's actually not being reinforced. In generally though a twin needle does make really petty stitching, once you get the tension right.

i've seen this tutorial before. i love it. i typed in the search 'how to assemble two zippers that meet in the middle into a bag.' but of course i didn't get this result. have you ever done this procedure? i am in the middle of making a zippered pouch and i have made the tabs too short. the zipper is too short, but i don't have any other zippers. basically, it's made from a child's skirt and i don't want to lose any of the labels. so i'm pretty much up a creek and the only thought i had was to assemble two zippers which meet in the middle.
Thank you. So you want to use like one zipper on the right hand side and once it run the left hand side correct? You're not going to be able to get the zippers to merge together. The slide is not going to be able to move from one to the other. But yeah you can totally do that. Do you have two zippers? Or are you trying to do it a different way?

Thank you for watching. I do all my markings on the interfacing on the back, and then I sew with this side up. The white interfacing makes it really easy to see my marks.

The box should be shorter than your zipper. I made mine so the mental stops would sit inside the box. I was pushing it a bit. The box was as large as possible with this length of zipper. You can make the box any length you want. I tend to to make it 1/2" tall, but 3/8" / 1cm would also work. If it's too small it could be caught in the zipper teeth. Thank you for watching
I was doing good until flipping it around, it bunched up on the two smaller sides of the rectangle. I tried to cut it near the corners as you suggested, but it doesn't seem to be working. Any suggestions?
Your rectangle should be the size you want your pocket opening to be. Choose a zipper that's large enough to fill the hole. You can always cut it down when your are done, if it's too long.
I want to add some small metal zipper's to a few of my jeans. Should I do as you did here or? I'm kind of confused about it. Please help. Thank you so much!
Tell me more about the zippers? Are you adding pockets them? Or just want some fashion zippers? You can totally do it this way. Be careful with metal zippers. It is very easy to break a needle on the teeth
I might have missed it, or just be confused... so the pocket fabric, if I’m using a pattern - am I putting the pretty side of the fabric facing up toward me on the top of the outer fabric that is also pretty side up? Or am I putting the pocket fabric pretty side down facing the up turned pretty side of the outside fabric.... that may make no sense 😭
You certainly can do that, but I wanted the whole thing to be very soft and flexible, so adding interfacing to the pocket would have defeated that. Plus my pocket material was plenty strong. That's a great tip when using very thin pocket materials that won't last a long time.
Most of the time when people want to hide the zipper on a tote bag or a clothing pocket they create a welt. Which is a fold of fabric which fills in the pocket opening. You could easily hide a zipper behind one of these.

Kathy Brewer if the bottom/back of your luggage has a zippered lining you could do the same technique to the lining. However sewing inside of a piece of rolling luggage is very complicated. (I am making an assumption here that it's rolling luggage.) Whatever you plan to do hand sewing will probably be the easiest option. You could also make a zippered pouch with a clip on either side and then so a couple of d-ring Loops into your luggage. This would make a pocket without having to so very much by hand.

Yep I got it now. ..I did miss that part. ..lol. ..
Oh yes, and did you backstitch at all when you were doing the rectangle?
Sometimes I do back-stitch, but since I'm sewing over where I started it's not totally necessary.

Put right sides together. So pretty side of pocket bag to pretty side of purse lining.

Is there a method to use to completely hide the zipper inside?
Most of the time when people want to hide the zipper on a tote bag or a clothing pocket they create a welt. Which is a fold of fabric which fills in the pocket opening. You could easily hide a zipper behind one of these.

you never said if the top for the pocket should be print to print or back side to print before sewing it on the main fabric
You're going to put your pocket piece on the front of the fabric right sides together. I'm making another video so I can answer some of the questions that have come up over the years.

Is this method can use into kurti?
Yes you can use it in a kurti. You can also use in seam pockets if the side is sewn low enough.

Is there a way to add a pocket to insde of luggage ?
Kathy Brewer if the bottom/back of your luggage has a zippered lining you could do the same technique to the lining. However sewing inside of a piece of rolling luggage is very complicated. (I am making an assumption here that it's rolling luggage.)
Whatever you plan to do hand sewing will probably be the easiest option.
You could also make a zippered pouch with a clip on either side and then so a couple of d-ring Loops into your luggage. This would make a pocket without having to so very much by hand.
