I got one this summer (with filter mod whioch is quite handy), it has a very nice sheen to the sound, hard to explain. I would not use it for everything but it is definitively a great "flavor" machine
Lets go folks..If fan appreciation was the coin of the realm than DreamsOfWires/Tomorrow The Cure would be huge...But it doesn't pay the bills! I just purchased the One Synth album, this is something EVERYONE should own. Let's keep music a viable option for this truly gifted composer and artist! Please buy his work, we cannot afford to lose this magic!
Well finally! A video of the poly 800 that sounds good! Thanks so much for not just playing lame 80’s cover band sounds. Mine comes in the mail today. Mark II, super excited again thanks to this video.
I was about to let go of my Poly 800 until I watched this video which have made me change my mind. Your take on this synth is so amazing and I really am amazed by the fact that your video of it’s sequencer had also made me bought the Poly 800 on the last couple of years before! I pray your channel survive and to many more great videos of this beautiful machines!
Thank you very much for saying that, it's much appreciated. Like most instruments, it's got its sweet spots in my opinion. I think the 800 is better for it's unusual qualities, rather than when compared to most other polys, which are mostly too expensive for the majority of us.
Oh, btw, I have shared the patch sheet template on Facebook Korg Poly 800 group. I hope you don’t mind sharing the patch/settings of these sounds you’ve created as all these sounds are so amazing!
DreamsOfWires you can go to the Facebook group’s files section and there’s a “POLY800 PATCHSHEET TEMPLATE“ pdf format. Just got so excited to let others experimenting with their creative love of the Poly800
For what it's worth, you have the talent to make recordings and videos with minimal gear. My videos are all made with my phone and some cheap effects, and I've recorded several tracks using a single synth such as a Volca Bass and small digital recorder with built-in effects. It's limiting but manageable. I know next to nothing about making real videos so I just wing it and use Windows Movie Maker or similar freeware to edit stuff. I have bought your music off of Bandcamp and appreciate your work. Hang in there and don't give up, you'll find a way to carry on.
Thank you. I just wing it too, but I keep thinking of ways to improve things and give it a shot, even if I don't know what I'm doing. It's satisfying finding your own way to get around problems and limitations though, when the result gives you what you wanted from it, or near enough. Thanks for your ongoing support, it means a lot.
I had one of these for many years. It finally got fried and stopped working. It has a great sound and you have really highlighted that with these patches.
I really enjoyed your presentation, you program the same style of sounds I do. I owned an original 800 for many years from the mid 80's to the early 90's and more recently a MK11. I love both but the MK11's digital delay is quite magical as it is oddly phase inverted on one channel which throws the sound out into the third dimensional ether, but phase cancels if played mono (but why record or listen in mono if it sounds this great) The main difference between the 800's sound over other polys of the day (ie Juno's) is two elements that make up the sound, firstly how the saw wave is created with square wave additive synthesis and secondly with its paraphonic filter. A very unique and beautiful synthesizer.
Thanks for the information. I've never tried a MkII, but the delay sounds more intriguing now, especially when used with the sequencer for example. I like the chorus in the MkI - it's not particularly remarkable, but it's more appealing to use as a feature of the instrument rather than using an external one.
After reading the description of this video, my heart sank. I am so glad that you’ve managed to stick around, mate! Thanks for all the years of quality content. As an aside, The Poly800 was my very first synth.
Thank you very much, that's really nice to hear, although it might not be for much longer. I still have a few more modular videos I'd planned to make, after that it'll probably just be promo videos for my Bandcamp releases. See how it goes.
Thanks Wayne, for this wonderful video! I just noticed one up for sale near my place for only € 200! Now that I heard it, I might just go get it. Take care and stay healthy and safe!
Man, that would be a shame if you would stop making music. I love your stuff! Bought also your albums. YT is a difficult thing, but don´t stop doing music.
Thanks, that's great to hear. I'll probably continue making music of a more affordable nature, and releasing on Bandcamp, but maybe not so much for TH-cam unless things change a lot.
DreamsOfWires Maybe do quick pilots/demos on YT and then tell folks if they want the finished product it is available on Bandcamp? Very few people make money on YT alone.
That's a good idea, I'll probably do that if/when I release anything in the future. I've got a couple of album ideas based on different instruments and technologies, but I'll see how the year goes.
I'm lucky enough to still own my MkII with reverse keys. It's so nice to run it up once in a while just for the great sound. And to prance round the room using it as a keytar all 80s-like.
Love your work, great video! Concerning profitability...it is very tough I’m sure. I’m sorry that it is causing financial stress for you to pursue your creative drive, I share in that pain... Have you ever tried to sell sound packs / patches? Either by being contracted by a synth manufacturer or by selling them on your own? Maybe making kontakt sample packs / samples instruments? I feel like your patches are inspiring to those that watch it and smaller impulse buys of soundbanks can add up No personal experience in it, but just a thought!
Thank you, that's nice to know. Yeah, that's the problem, most people are in the same boat. Websites rarely help as much as they could unless there's enough profit in it for them. Thanks for the suggestion, but I couldn't sell patches as I don't own any such instruments anymore, and I doubt a manufacturer would offer me any work. It's nice to know my sounds inspire some people though, hopefully to create their own sounds.
Greetings to all, someone who can help me with my korg poly 800, connect a charger, I think it has a lot of voltage and it turned off and does not turn on anymore, what happened? could it be the protective diode at the input? Would the internal card be burned because of that? any trick remedy or solution here?
I played through one today, but found the notes starting to cancel eachother out when I wanted to hold a key down and play other ones. Like it wouldn’t sustain long enough while I was playing other notes
This channel is unique in its approach. You can tell music means a lot to you and the way you present it is pure. The music and especially the outside footage match really well and the descriptions you write are personal. Remember, this is a tough genre to sell. I understand you would like to live off it, but I can see this is important to you in other ways and I mean that as the biggest compliment to your work.
Thank you very much, I'm really glad it comes across that way. My immediate problem isn't living off of it, but being able to afford to do it in the first place, particularly the TH-cam side of things. I'll write a community post or something soon to explain the background of what I do on my channel then it might make more sense.
I got one for Christmas in 1984 I still have it and use it all the time Great little poly systh Thanks for sharing on You Tube
That's great. Thanks for watching.
I just want to say... your parents seriously ROCK!
Theres something lovely and crusty about this old keyboard. Lofi heaven!
I got one this summer (with filter mod whioch is quite handy), it has a very nice sheen to the sound, hard to explain. I would not use it for everything but it is definitively a great "flavor" machine
I used to have one, sold it, but now I want it back after listening to some of my old recordings. I love the sound of the Poly-800!!!
Thank you very much, that's very generous, and I'm glad of your support.
I love that first patch so much.
That's great.
Well finally! A video of the poly 800 that sounds good! Thanks so much for not just playing lame 80’s cover band sounds. Mine comes in the mail today. Mark II, super excited again thanks to this video.
Thanks, glad you liked it. My keyboard skills are almost 0, so I couldn't play that kind of stuff anyway, hehe. I hope you enjoy your Poly 800.

Which patch sheet template is that? I only know of an audio file that contains the factory presets.
DreamsOfWires you can go to the Facebook group’s files section and there’s a “POLY800 PATCHSHEET TEMPLATE“ pdf format. Just got so excited to let others experimenting with their creative love of the Poly800
SUHAIMI MOHD dont ever let go of it, I will never let go of mine, they will only go up in value.
Excellent sonic presentation of a most underrated synth.
Thank you very much, I wish I'd kept that synth.
I love this synth.

Thanks, that's good to hear. That's a drawback of these old instruments; they can be an expensive fix.
Lots of memories of the Poly 800 that I used in the early 90's in a cover band

I love the sound of this machine. I always enjoy your channel. I'll take another look at your bandcamp and pick something up.
It's definitely got something, kind of nasty in an appealing way. And thanks, always glad to see your comments, I really appreciate it.
@@DreamsOfWires It reminds me a bit of my Mopho x4. The Curtis filters can get very raw and nasally.
Thanks Wayne, for this wonderful video! I just noticed one up for sale near my place for only € 200!
Now that I heard it, I might just go get it. Take care and stay healthy and safe!
You're welcome Mark, glad you like it. That's a great price for a synth like this. Thanks, you take care too, best wishes.

The korg poly 800 was the first synth I owned.
Keep making music, your earlier work with the volca keys and ms20 were a great inspiration to me.
That's really nice to know, thank you. I wish I'd kept that MS20 a little longer.
I'm lucky enough to still own my MkII with reverse keys. It's so nice to run it up once in a while just for the great sound. And to prance round the room using it as a keytar all 80s-like.
I didn’t know they made the mkII with the reverse keyboard. I’ve only seen the reverse mkI. Was yours a mod? Thanks!
Great patches, excited for mine to arrive next Monday!
Thank you. Good luck with yours.
Remembe to change the ram battery.
Or it will kill your Poly800
Blade Runner vibe at the end there :)
6:49 sounds like to here knows when by my bloody valentine. You could call this the loveless patch lol
Put that through an Eventide H9 and you could kiss the sky
Great video, reminds me of all the fun I had with one in the mid 1980's. Beginning to regret selling mine .......
Thank you. They're not selling for so much money nowadays, might be worth a look.
Beautiful👍
Thank you very much
dreamy sounds!
Thank you
Three independent ADBSSR envelope generators!👍
Brilliant
Thank you
Love your work, great video!

Yo tengo uno y me encanta!!
Hermosos sonidos
Muchas gracias
I played through one today, but found the notes starting to cancel eachother out when I wanted to hold a key down and play other ones. Like it wouldn’t sustain long enough while I was playing other notes
It's only sound 4 or 8 notes simultaneously (depending on the preset), so it'll steal the first note when you play 5 or 9.
Wonderful sounds! Is it possible to buy your patches somewhere?
I just discovered this video (and your channel)! That drone sound at around the 7:00 mark is cool--how did you make it?
Thank you for watching, but I can't remember to be honest.
These are excellent
Thank you.

that is some preem synthwave vibe. Do you have an album where you used the poly800 in this style?
Thank you. Unfortunately not, I didn't own it for long enough, which I regret.
The first patch is just killer! Made me want to buy an 800... damn. How did you do that?
Thank you. It's just a case of listening to how the parameters affect the sound in isolation, then keeping what you like.
You should make these patches available for sale for people to download. It would be somewhat of a way to monetize the channel.
Thanks, but I didn't keep these patches, it was too hit and miss even loading the factory presets.
I would buy these - you are an excellent programmer. You do ‘moody’ very well!
Stranger Things next season?
That would be nice, I need a job.
How do you save the patches??
