    Why is the shrimp so pink? Sorry, just getting into ice fishing!

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The shrimp is cured so they are toughened up, and the cure has dye in it. I use Pautzke Bait's Fire Cure (red) for this. Just sprinkle some onto the shrimp in a container, shake them around and leave for an hour or so, then they are ready to be used.

      @@FishingwithRod thanks for that.
      Afterwards, do you keep them in he fridge or freezer?

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@datona1 It really depends on how often I would be using them. If I think that I'll be using them all up within a week, then they go in the fridge. Quite often I divide them into small batches, so I bag them and put the ones I don't intend to use right away in the freezer. I would even vacuum pack them just to keep them fresh. I don't use new vacuum packing bags though. I would wash the ones that I used for my fish, and vacuum pack bait with those bags.

    Hey Rod, how come the lakes that are stocked with Kokanee fry don't seem to get giant rainbow trouts in them? It would seem like with such a good food source of other fish they could get to be monsters.

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are big trout in them, just not gigantic trout. 😉 For the most part I think the rainbow trout stocked just don't eat kokanee. That's about to change, as in the past two years a new strain has been introduced into some of these kokanee lakes. Horsefly rainbows are much more aggressive, prey on small fish like kokanee as well as the coarse fish found in these lakes. The hope is to create an exciting troll fishery which would produce some big rainbows.

      @@FishingwithRod thanks Rod! I went through the stocking reports, these could turn out to be some super exciting fisheries in the next few years.

    Great video Rod 🎣, Awesome to see you catch a couple of good size Koreans. Are you allowed to pitch up a tent somewhere around the lk , & bring your 4 legged fishing buddy ?

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wait, Koreans? 😜
      Are you talking about tent camping in the summer around the lake? I'm not actually sure if there is a rec campsite at that lake. There is a day use area... I'll have to look it up. Both Hathaway Lake Resort and Moosehaven have campsites though and they're all along the lake.

    What soft tipped rod are you using??

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been using Shimano Convergence and Sedona rods (light, 2-6lb). They got a light coloured tip, easier to see the bites.

    • @kentmacneill2796

      @@FishingwithRod thanks Rod. I’ve been using a pan fish rod with success, but yours seems to have a nice combo of backbone and soft tip!

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say the rods I was using do not have a good backbone actually, they are quite softn all the way down to the cork. This makes them great for kokanee because if they are too stiff the fish would be falling off left and right. The same rods are somewhat challenging at times when targeting bigger trout because they are too soft. The new Shimano Convergence from this season, do have a number of rods which are quite a bit faster/stiffer yet still retaining a pretty sensitive tip. You should check those out. I just started using the new ones too and have been loving them, just haven't filmed with them yet.

      Mike's custom patented Wood Dowel rod has the ultimate backbone!! I had the pleasure to fish close by Mr.Ramsay and crew earlier this year at Bridge. Definitely agree with his stance on the smaller hole when targetting the Chrome!! He mentioned a 12lb Laker could fit through if needed.......
