I know very little about Don 'The Dragon' Wilson but one of the first things I did learn about him was his victory against the incredibly good Dennis 'The Terminator' Alexio.
I met Don Wilson back in Detroit in 1986 at AutoRama.He talked to me and was very down to Earth,I was starstruck that I got to meet one of my favorite martial arts legends,it was very surreal.
His personality doesnt match his ring persona. As a kid i would have Never guessed he was this much a talker. He was always a serious stoic guy in movies and in the ring
I respect Don. Many of these guys struggle with simple means of communication. Why the doubt of each other? I get the Dux doubt, but many in the community are talented and highly trained.
In fact, if I remember correctly, the one who said that Van Damme trained with Alexio and that Wilson couldn't with him, it wasn't Van Damme, but the person who manages his facebook, however, and honestly I also think that Van Damme at his best moment he would have easily beaten him, the fact that he has not dedicated himself completely to martial arts does not mean that he has not been good, in fact, in the face of a possible fight he would have trained, also the one who seems to not know Van Damme's background is Wilson himself, since it seems that he has not seen videos of JC fighting even though there are not many. Van Damme's ability is undeniable whether Wilson likes it or not.

Does anyone think Van Damme is losing sleep about what Don says?!? Don is clearly the better fighter out of the two but Van Damme is the bigger star with much more charisma. In this regard, Don comes across as having sour grapes as he seems to believe that by being the more legitimate fighter this should have translated into him being the bigger star.
I agree. Don was an exceptional kickboxer but to call out JCVD regularly isn’t a good look. I don’t think Don has won any new fans who didn’t already know who he was simply because JCVD won’t fight him or couldn’t beat him if he did. It’s kind of silly.
Its not Don Wilsons fault, the problem with his movies was bad screening, for example if you see a bruce lee movie or Vann damme movie they have Wide screen camera shots and perfect angles while Don the Dragon screen camera shots where narrow and at akward wacky & weird, angles and if you study filmography you would notice that the people who helped Don where very very bad at camera angles and shots or they were not professional cinematographers or maybe they did it on porpuse to make don look bad. If don could work with steven spielger he could make the best Martial arts movie of the decade im sure of that, but his movies suck not because of him but because of the people who where behind cameras.

I still think. Dux probably fought like a person or two... probably in a bet . Underground...and that opponent has since died or drugs or mafia or just homless... I think he fought in this manner 1 or 2 times... fought regular people like me and you.. no arena or anything... and I think it happened maybe 2 times... cux it explains the lack of opponents that never came out and said they fought. And I think frank got the idea he could do this for ever for money and how great it would be to be the king of Underground fights.. and he made the story and sold it.. I think that's the most logical way it could've happened

I’m a fan of Don The Dragon. Respect him a lot. But, I don’t feel it’s fair to lump Van Damme in his same perceived category. Of what he considers to be legit. This is 0 shade to Frank Dux either. Just a point. Van Damme has one of his teachers in Belgium. Speaking very highly of his abilities. What he had accomplished on the local Belgium Fighting circuit. Can’t think of the guys name. But he’s been shown in a lot of Van Dammes documentary type videos over the years. Some say Point fighting. Some say Full Contact. It all matters imho. All very relevant. Because it speaks to the evolution and history. Of what we know today as Combat Sports. Don comes off as jealous to me on that take.

Ive always liked Don Wilson The Dragon as kickboxer he can really fight and act he very humble person one day would like to meet him and train with him.
Don does make some good points but he is wrong with a lot of stuff especially with bloodsport. When I was a kid part of the reason why bloodsport was so successful is every kid believes it was based on a true story it’s what we talked about in the schoolyard. Also Don’s assumption that Frank never won any fights or matches is just stupid he wasn’t there following his whole life so he doesn’t know he’s just making an assumption, and as far as the kicks not working if any technique is applied correctly it will work, I have literally hit people with that spinning split kick by throwing a spinning hook kick and then following it up with that. My point is if Don wasn’t there he shouldn’t say anything negative plain and simple he wasn’t there so you have to give Frank the benefit of the doubt even if you don’t believe him.
I don't understand the obsession with "bloodsport" being a true story or not. It's one of the greatest and most entertaining martial arts movies ever! It literally makes no difference if it's based on a true story or not.

If I heard that as an adult I would question it a little bit more but as a kid it’s like wow based on a real story this really happened!!! To be honest I kind of believe it was real all throughout history martial artist Have had tournaments especially ones behind closed doors.

There does seem to be a strong fued between Don and Frank Also with the video of Frank Training let's be honest unless it's rehearsed and practised a lot of movements look a little crappy and clumsy. I have seen practitioners very experienced look clumsy when off the cuff videoing . Whe. You see perfect attacks and defences is when they are practised and videos over and over again.
I love don the dragon and vandamme. I’m sure they probably would be friends since they have a lot in common. I don’t think vandamme ever said on camera or in interviews that he was a world champion kickboxer even though they said that advertising for bloodsport. Of course the video on the channel explaining his fight records makes sense of it all. One of my favorite videos BTW haha. I’m sure if they met face to face years ago they would of been friends.

Van Damme is more of a body builder than an actual fighter. Don Wilson is a veteran fighter but most of his films aren't very good.

Does anyone think Van Damme is losing sleep about what Don says?!? Don is clearly the better fighter out of the two but Van Damme is the bigger star with much more charisma. In this regard, Don comes across as having sour grapes as he seems to believe that by being the more legitimate fighter this should have translated into him being the bigger star.

I agree. Don was an exceptional kickboxer but to call out JCVD regularly isn’t a good look. I don’t think Don has won any new fans who didn’t already know who he was simply because JCVD won’t fight him or couldn’t beat him if he did. It’s kind of silly.

Its not Don Wilsons fault, the problem with his movies was bad screening, for example if you see a bruce lee movie or Vann damme movie they have Wide screen camera shots and perfect angles while Don the Dragon screen camera shots where narrow and at akward wacky & weird, angles and if you study filmography you would notice that the people who helped Don where very very bad at camera angles and shots or they were not professional cinematographers or maybe they did it on porpuse to make don look bad. If don could work with steven spielger he could make the best Martial arts movie of the decade im sure of that, but his movies suck not because of him but because of the people who where behind cameras.
I never heard about Don Wilson back in the day when I was a kid (I heard about Van Damme, though). Even now, I still haven’t seen any of his movies. Maybe one day I’ll give them a shot.

Nice interview. Don Wilson made a great point about martial artists on screen. Jason Statham was not a competitive martial artist or champion, but he is definitely skilled in his martial art. That's what's important to convey on screen and it comes across in his movies. Bye the way, you're looking much more vascular now compared to that older video!

I think he fought in this manner 1 or 2 times... fought regular people like me and you.. no arena or anything... and I think it happened maybe 2 times... cux it explains the lack of opponents that never came out and said they fought. And I think frank got the idea he could do this for ever for money and how great it would be to be the king of Underground fights.. and he made the story and sold it.. I think that's the most logical way it could've happened

I’m a fan of Don The Dragon. Respect him a lot. But, I don’t feel it’s fair to lump Van Damme in his same perceived category. Of what he considers to be legit. This is 0 shade to Frank Dux either. Just a point. Van Damme has one of his teachers in Belgium. Speaking very highly of his abilities. What he had accomplished on the local Belgium Fighting circuit. Can’t think of the guys name. But he’s been shown in a lot of Van Dammes documentary type videos over the years. Some say Point fighting. Some say Full Contact. It all matters imho. All very relevant. Because it speaks to the evolution and history. Of what we know today as Combat Sports. Don comes off as jealous to me on that take.

Ive always liked Don Wilson The Dragon as kickboxer he can really fight and act he very humble person one day would like to meet him and train with him.
Don does make some good points but he is wrong with a lot of stuff especially with bloodsport. When I was a kid part of the reason why bloodsport was so successful is every kid believes it was based on a true story it’s what we talked about in the schoolyard. Also Don’s assumption that Frank never won any fights or matches is just stupid he wasn’t there following his whole life so he doesn’t know he’s just making an assumption, and as far as the kicks not working if any technique is applied correctly it will work, I have literally hit people with that spinning split kick by throwing a spinning hook kick and then following it up with that. My point is if Don wasn’t there he shouldn’t say anything negative plain and simple he wasn’t there so you have to give Frank the benefit of the doubt even if you don’t believe him.

@@Paul-sl9zm it is one of the greatest movies of all time in my opinion but when you’re like 10 years old the thought of being real makes it just a little bit cooler. If I heard that as an adult I would question it a little bit more but as a kid it’s like wow based on a real story this really happened!!! To be honest I kind of believe it was real all throughout history martial artist Have had tournaments especially ones behind closed doors.

I don't hate mister Dux even if his whole life is a lie. Like every other skeptics, all I'd like to see is a photo of a young grasshopper mister Dux standing next to his then old ninja shidoshi Senzo Tanaka. Even Steven Segal has more credibility than mister Dux, because we've seen a young Segal standing next to his aikido sensei in a photograph.

You know maybe Don Wilson is right but I’ve seen all his movies and they all sucked. For someone who was a world champion you think they could’ve pulled something off in Hollywood that was great. He talks down about Chuck Norris and praises Bruce Lee, but we all know the truth. Chuck Norris was a real fighter and Bruce Lee was an inspirational speaker and philosopher who had amazing ideas. But the reality was it was all just philosophical. Don’t get me wrong. Bruce Lee made amazing movies and it’s just my opinion. Bloodsport will always be the the greatest martial arts movie, possibly the greatest movie ever made!
Weird that he would praise a fake fighter and slag a real one when he's crying about JCVD and Dux, but whatever. I liked Virtual Combat but that was mostly for Athena Massey.

Also with the video of Frank Training let's be honest unless it's rehearsed and practised a lot of movements look a little crappy and clumsy. I have seen practitioners very experienced look clumsy when off the cuff videoing .

I love don the dragon and vandamme. I’m sure they probably would be friends since they have a lot in common. I don’t think vandamme ever said on camera or in interviews that he was a world champion kickboxer even though they said that advertising for bloodsport. Of course the video on the channel explaining his fight records makes sense of it all. One of my favorite videos BTW haha. I’m sure if they met face to face years ago they would of been friends.
