  • In this video we get anther flight on the turbine RAW 700. A lot of you guys say it will never do any 3D. So in todays video we test that! More flights to come where we push the heli more and more.

    Also for an American I’m so pleased you pronounce the word Turbine as it is spelt. Most people in the power industry from your side of the world pronounce it Tur-bin.

    Very cool Jeff. Looks like a electric heli running on normal mode. Is there enough power to do tic tocks and pitch pumps? Assuming the throttle curve on a turbine is set to 100%? About how long of a flight do you get on a tank?

    • @westhobbiesrc8051

      Thank you! There is enough power to do tick-tock’s Piroflips all of that good stuff. You just have to be very easy on the collective and have a lot of collective management. I am still running a V curve like an electric model. I’m actually going to take some of the V out what time is around 4 1/2 minutes at wide-open throttle.

    I definitely see the "Jet Lag" you were eluding to. But the way you personally adjust for it, it looks seamless. Now, I know the answer to this question already but I'm going to ask it anyway, LOL. Since you also love speed flying as much as Sport and 3D, have you wondered what it would be like with a set of speed blades on it, and going all out?

    • @westhobbiesrc8051

      You definitely have a delay in throttle it’s just under three seconds so you have to be extremely easy and smooth on the collective no hard fast inputs to keep a sustained head speed. So I had an idea before building this thing about putting a Turbine in a speed helicopter, but more of a propulsion and not so much a drive. Lol I will definitely try some speed runs with it. I don’t think I’ll need designated speed blades because I doubt it will go over 150 mph, which is when you start to get blade stall. But I’ve got an extra set just in case as of lol.

      I enjoy fast hard 3-D as well as smooth relaxed 3-D. Yes, you still use a governor. Just like a nitro engine. Magnetic pick up sensor and it controls the throttle input percentages.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051

      The turbine is about 1 and half pound heavier and around 5hp. But where the turbine lax is in response. So loading and unloading the head will create a delay in the actual rpm of the engine.

  • @keithcarpenter5254

    Does the way the gt is geared and throttled make it too much of compromise in performance/ economy (fuel) to be able to run a conventional idle up, and higher head speed? I know gts are only giving the power in the top 10 - 20% of rpm, but it looked like it would have been happier 3ding with a bit more zing in the whisk, as it were!?😊 Awesome build, awesome. 😊

      One thing I have found with this turbine, especially is it flies and will do everything a 6s 700 will do. It’s like flying a nitro where collective management is everything. Also, in this video that’s only 1700 RPM head speed so still more to go. It will definitely do tick-tock’s, as well as Piroflips put. Of course it will never have the power of an electric 12S plus set up. But it has more than you would think. More than I thought!
