    I was so sure Carolina was forcing a Game 7 until Chris Kreider turned into a god. He joins Mark Messier and Wayne Gretzky as the only Rangers to score a hat trick in the 3rd period of a playoff game. This is going to be an even more painful offseason for the Hurricanes as they have a lot of free agents pending, not a lot of cap space, and a looming uncertain future.

      I wouldn't necessarily say "stole" like the Canes deserved to win the series, Rangers still outplayed them the majority of these games. Canes play high volume, but Rangers are more about quality than quantity. That's how they won the first 3 games. They are a resilient group that knows what it takes to win.

      @TheSnapback 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      The team always does better under pressure. Games 4 and 5 they were too complacent, first 2 periods just didn't battle hard enough. However, when they were down 3-1 at the end of the 2nd, they knew they could come back. Rangers didn't win the presidents trophy because they were the most flashy and aggressive team, they won it because of their no quit mentality. They have a level of resilience no other team really has. Panthers will be a tough matchup though, but I believe they can win.

    • @gocharules

      Rangers were not terrible for 5 periods not sure what you are watching. Rangers were better than Canes in the 1st period even though they were down 1-0 Rangers had 4 shots Canes blocked 10 shots. Canes had 10 shots Rangers blocked 4 shots, but Rangers spent a lot more time in Canes zone carried the play couple of blocks were right in front of Anderson to save his bacon, The 1 in 2nd period saving the obvious goal. Rangers were better than Canes 5 on 5 this game period, and Igor was better than Anderson. Quality beat Quantity

    I’ve said this before series. It was unfair to pit the president trophy winners against the 3rd best team out of 32 in the 2nd round. The format is garbage. Both teams are punished for having a great season. This series had Stanley cup style flow all series long. Two great hockey teams and it’s a shame a team might make changes because they only won 1 round.

    As a NYR fan old enough to remember the 1994 cup run and championship, I had been really pissed the last few days due to their play. I reverted back to the same hat I was wearing for the first three games and left my Rangers' hat alone. When I saw it was 3-1 going into the third, I really thought that we were going to see a game 7. And game sevens are a massive crap shoot.
    Now we need to focus on the nest round; I would like to see Florida because I have resided in Florida since leaving NY about five years ago. But I want Boston and Florida to go seven with many OT periods and to beat the hell out of each other first.

    This was my first year watching hockey (or any sport for that matter) and I'm so sad about this :( It felt at times like if I just loved the Canes strongly enough, they were sure to win. Being a sports fan is hard because everyone loves their team so much, but at the end of the day there is only one cup to go around.

  • @de-fault_de-fault
    @de-fault_de-fault 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

    For five straight periods I was asking myself what happened to the Rangers I watched all season, who would find a way to win some of the unlikeliest games. At the start of the third I was getting wistful for all the times during the year when the boys would be down 2 goals with 20 or even 10 minutes to play and I’d be totally confident in their ability to get one and then another. And then Kreider remembered that feeling too and went with it, plus the game winner for good measure. In the 2022 playoffs, when my daughter was 4, she yelled out “I’m assessed (obsessed) with Kreider!” Me too, kid. From the very beginning of his career. Me too.

    The rangers obviously deserved the win here. They were the (slightly) better team over 7 games, far better on special teams, and I'm not trying to diminish that, but the NHL has a major issue with officiating that's going to hold it back from being on par with other major sports. The refs can't swallow their whistles all night, miss a delay of game penalty, and then call a make up call on a softie that's embellished and they haven't been calling all night. You can say, well, the canes gotta kill it off, they had their chances too, lost the special teams battle, missed calls on both sides, etc. That's all true. But when two teams are this close, pretty much every game could have gone either way, and it's really a game of inches, it can absolutely be the difference maker--and that was the theme of the series. Current officiating in the NHL is far too subjective, and they get it wrong too often for the league to have mainstream appeal (Canada doesn't count 😝). Not saying I have a solution, maybe some of the additional video reviews will help, but it's currently fucked and not worth investing much time and money in a season.

    I muted the game after the second period but kept it up on my screen. Then Chris Kreider kept scoring goals and I thought "well now I have to keep it muted so the Rangers can win". One of the best comebacks I've seen this team put together and I couldn't even listen to it (I scrolled back after the game was over so I could watch the third period with audio, like a normal person).

Good luck to rangers for rest of playoffs, i think canes-rags is propably my favourite rivalry currently in that its tight games that rarely turn ugly or dirty(unlike for example some other series still going on xD).

      Kreider's just a humble guy who doesn't like the spotlight. Trouba is apparently a great leader in the locker room and was ready for that role. Although his play hasn't been the best recently, that's not the only thing that matters when you're captain. The most important thing is that you can fire your team up to win every game, which it seems he has done well.

    my dad is always quick to panic when things start looking bad for the rangers (he's 70 and he wants just one more cup before he dies; you know the situation). he just thinks like a lifelong rangers fan - can you really blame him? i, on the other hand, was telling him that i think they're in a better position now that the massive pressure of the 7 game streak was well behind them. admittedly, it wasn't looking good for most of the game but much of the success of this current rangers' iteration is built on decisive opportunism. kreider came up big with some decisive opportunism - THRICE. they were never going to have the run of the ice playing against carolina, as they're just too good to allow that. i'm not surprised at all that it had to end this way.

      Rangers were the better team, they just have a different playstyle than the Canes. The Rangers don't go for quantity, they are very strategic and play a patient game. Canes on the other hand just shoot whenever they have a chance, don't really set up a detailed play. They can shoot 50 shots on goal with 90% of them being softies any goalie can save. Rangers just know what it takes to win, there is a reason they won the presidents trophy and not the Canes.
