My favourite part about Hadrian is when the Jews revolted for a 2nd time

He was from a prominent greek family, not a commoner by any stretch and he was 12 years old. Otherwise a pretty good summary.

Hadrian is one of my favorite Caesars and the romance between him and Antinous I always found intriguing and fascinating, especially since the emperor was a trailblazer and defied conventions in order to live life and project his own image to his subjects.

It was actually really common for emperors to enjoy twink boy pussy infact Nero had a husband, Sporus whom was castrated (transvestite?) And he became the emperial wife of several emperors who succeeded him. Greek bussy was not viewed much different from hetrosexual relations. However if an emperor was a bottom that was a different story and extremely frowned upon. Elagabalus was an extreme sexual devient and also a transvestite but was eventually murdered because he let a guy plow him rather than the other way around

Christians really hated Antinous, as his story of commoner becoming divine was a little too close to their tale, a little more popular (for a time) than their story.

"Pederasty", which you mention, did not carry the meaning of physical copulation between an older man and a child, but that of a mentor (εραστής) and a student (ερωμένος). The lover and the loved. To this day, the derivatives of eros extend to the Greek noun ερώτησις (question) and the Greek verb for "to ask" (ερωτώ). The prefixes er- and or- carry the semasiology of "stimulation" as found in the Greek words for "red" (ερυθρόν), for "to stimulate" (ερεθίζειν). From or- we get nouns such as "orgasm" and georgos = farmer (he who stimulates the earth "geo" to bear fruit).
The barbaric (non Greek) scholar of today filters the Greek language and literature through a mindset totally alien to the Greek world view.
Εραστές (lovers) in the Greek sense were Platonic lovers. In fact, in ancient Athens there were laws condemning men who "ruined" children through physical improprieties. It was, therefore, not a "social custom" as you state, but considered as an anomaly. People like that were labeled as κίναιδοι (kinaedoi) from kinein=to move and aidos=shame, i.e. those who circulated in shame.
With a few anomalous exceptions, pederasty was educative, and Greek authors from Aristophanes to Pindar felt it naturally present in the context of aristocratic education (paideia).
To enforce the fact that sexual intercourse was not the defining factor of an "erotic" relationship between men, stand the agalmata (idealized statues) of men in their primes who are "nude", but not "naked", whose disproportionately small male genitals in these exquisite works representing men and gods in their primes signified the emphasis of the restraint of the baser pleasures, whilst the serene faces depict wisdom and dignity.
Let us not try to customize the greatest civilization the world has ever known to cater to our delusions.

That’s a great story of true love

  • @deewesthill1213

For me, that New World Symphony music is automatically tear-inducing, even without the story of such a beautiful relationship of true soulmates parted by tragedy, then deification in a highly successful religion and an inspirational legacy to the modern world. So the tears just won't stop! .... Early in October for the first time in my life i finally got to see original sculptures of Antinous at the Chicago Art Institute. It was so different from just seeing photos of them in books and on screens. The sculptures seem to portray a man-god of almost "unearthly", rather androgenous beauty but definitely masculine, his face so different from most very youthful ones by his expression that appears to be both great wisdom and deep sorrow. Was this the case for the real Antinous, i wondered. Those works made it difficult to move on to looking at the hundreds of the other great sculptures and paintings in that place.... Since I'm an amateur artist, a "painter" with recycled paper focusing mainly on faces, that experience made me want to do much more "refined" work than usual, and good practice for that would be doing detailed drawings of these works, and of course others, in pencil or ink, something i used to draw (quite different from paper "paintings"). The Antinous sculptures were also reminiscent of other religious "pagan" sculptures and paintings, mainly the Greco-Roman and Greco-Buddhist ones.

They always want to make suree you know that the male male relationships of the Greek tradition where about the plesure of the older member (says who?) and that it was meant to be temporary ??????? Yet all the philosphising and musing from the actual greeks who practiced this pederastic system extoled the fact that they unlike oothers who have sex with young males did not foccus just on beuty but place the highest primium ofn character and virtue because beuty fades and you will want to set your lover aside if it is all beuty but when you have someone who apeals on other levels you will be insppiered to be true to them for teh rest of your days. Another model was the lovers in war or brothers in arms who are not to aproach as temprorary you don't here tat one lover dies in battle so you quickly get a new one - no you are driven to take up his legacy or to avenge his death to the point of your own. The Sparten kidnaping tradition with the two month honeyy moon results in the beloved continuing to have a speacial type of garment he wears there is some suggestion that the boy if he rejects the suiter and declares tyhat he was mishandeled and abused that the suiter and friends coudl be executed buty assuming that was more a custom or ceremonial poweer that was never or rarely invoked no reason to think they part weays or wouldd go through this ritua;l with someone else. Socretese coudl be accused of being a pederastic teacher and yet dispite a open sense of self deprivcating humor that makes his own apreciation of teh beuty of young men the perpetual but of the joke the counter part to his rigorous demand for logic and rationality. But this is part of the show - he seems to vigilently avoid daliances with his pupis and after all as the head of a Gymansium there where laws that forbade such liasans between him and his pupils and to help insure that there where often imposed age differences between the adult malke in a teaching role worrking with young free born males. It makes the charachterization of these pedophilic 1 way tempporary versions of ancient manifestations of homosexual passions seem much more like the illegiotimate bastard of a concept born out of the purient fantasies of 20th century self styled iconoclasts purginhg not just the prudishmness of vocyoprianm schoolars but if they can they have managed to strip away the prudish modesty of the ancient peoples they have recast in their prono film noir pieces.
