- The December 16th banlist is one of the larger shakeups the game has seen in a while, particularly in terms of the modern format. With a ton of cards going on and off the banlist, there’s a lot to talk about, so let’s not waste any time and get to the changes

(Just a note, we have people who actually know the game very well making the scripts for this channel. As the owner of the channel (Theduellogs/hirumaredx) is a total newbie to the game.)
You completely missed the fact that The One Ring being Legendary is actually a benefit. You don't need to bounce it. You can just cast another copy and send the previous one to the graveyard, resetting the counters and giving you another turn of protection.
Didn't miss it. ⛔
Didn't realize it. ☑️
That’s such a crazy interaction. I don’t even play Magic but that card looked mega broken since the first time I saw it.
You also get two card draw activations the turn you do it
UNBAN TWIN! UNBAN TWIN! UNBAN TWI- huh? What? They did?! Holy shit!
now got to wait for birthing pod to get unbanned.
@@hecatomb1864? your mom has been a staple for at least the past 20 years
@@myrusEWYou know what's not a staple? Your sense of humor
@@myrusEW Why u mad? Its amazing how you are mad about nothing like a 4 year old child.
More like the "NONE Ring"! Am I right? get it? It's because it's banned!
one ring to g'one ring
Haha fuck that card 😂
SPLINTER SISTERS WE ARE SO BACK
The One Ring gets banned. Somewhere, Gollum is having the mother of all tantrums. *"YOU CAN'T BAN PRECIOUS!"*
Are you kidding me? He's just happy there won't be so many filthy nasty human hands on *his* precious anymore.
@1:05 - uh yes there is, the companion restriction is the downside. Now, you're correct to point out that a lot of times, like in the case of Lurrus, you're likely to meet the requirements of Jegantha without trying to, but there is definitively a downside to playing the card as your companion, it's just not enough of a downside
The twin ban was the thing that pushed me away from MTG. Blue Scapeshift was just not cutting it anymore so I gave in and bought into twin. MM2 had just released with a headline card being Twin. I just finished my deck and they banned it (and at the time there wasn't really a good replacement blue deck yet). Then Eldrazi winter happened and it was all over. I didn't have my deck, modern was a complete disaster and I just packed it in. I was so incredibly disheartened that I walked away and haven't been back since (though I still love watching content about mtg).
Unfortunately I think Twin coming back is going to be like Jace and BBE. Just a nice memory that can't keep up with contemporary modern. Fatal push exists (though you need to fetch to use it on the combo). Bowmasters takes care of pestermite. With bowmasters I think it's impossibly hard to be pure RB and have enough combo pieces. If it's ever going to work you might have to lean green for krasis or white for bell ringer. Really curious to see if anyone can make it work.
Yes we're only two days into post-ban Modern but I've seen Twin do decently so far. The answers are stronger but there's also more options Twin has like Flare of Denial (quite a few brews have a minor Wizard theme for extra bodies + getting full power out of Flame of Azor) or going Jeskai and bring T3fari or Orim's Chant. It might not be T1 when the dust settles but it can still force people to play around control like they haven't needed to for quite a while.
Energy is throwing twin combo into it from what I've heard..Hopefully it won't lead to it being banned again
MTGGoldfish played RB Twin on their channel today and went 4-1 losing only to creativity. Seth described it as a control deck with a twin wincon
For me, it took Modern Horizons 3 for me to pack it up. I played a variety of non-meta decks throughout (Soul Sisters, RW Prison) before settling on Eldrazi, then Burn. And now both are barely a footnote in the format...
@theflintabletc well there is an eldrazi deck in modern that doesn't rely on tron lands, and it's really fast, arguably faster than dredge atm.
Why didn’t Gandalf just ban The One Ring? Is he stupid?
The one ring at one point had a higher playrate than a couple of the fucking fetchlands... how do you even manage that?
fetch lands are, individually tied to 2 mana colors. the one ring is a totally colorless artifact that can be put into a deck without considering color issues
@@illiji915they really aren’t though, you know how many people play off-color fetches to just have more deck thinning?
ooo i like this banlist vid coverage, now i can get the classic duel logs asmr on recent news
RIP POST MOLONE 😭😭😭😭
He plays commander so he’s fine 🤷🏻♂️
Are you referring to the 1/1 he paid a boatload of dollars for? That card will literally never, ever, decrease in value. It will only increase.
We see you, Opal, your troubles are miles away
Birthing pod should be unbanned.
Too slow now
@@ivonneiglesias2596 thats why it should be unbanned.
As a Modern player since Guild pact, seeing MH3 show up, dominate the format, and like power creep it to this degree was almost depressing..........
I once heard modern described as magic's most popular rotating format
Other than mox opal I don’t see any problems here.
Unbanning opal was a big mistake.
If the people who kept refining their lantern decks get their opal back, maybe we are gonna see some interesting gameplay.
As a former boros energy player, this was the best card to hit. Like you stated, hitting an Ajani with raptor was such an incredibly power play and would %99 of the time just lead to blowouts. With guide on field it was a garunteed 3 energy on turn 2 and if played on turn 3 with an ocelot pride basically snowballed because turn 4 you are absolutely casting the one ring. Happy to see both go so the format grow in a healthy manner.
My 8 Crab deck will miss their four One Rings dearly
I always thought the one ring should either cost 2BB or something, or even more flavourful should require you to have a ring bearer to activate it's ability.
5:30 "Blizzards" lol
Can't wait for then to announce Magic 2 with PvE modes!
@forsetimaster0689 Ya then never release it for a year then announce that they have canceled the PvE mode.
Meanwhile the Nazgûl continue to congregate and grow stronger in numbers lol
To me, i think the main reason they unbanned cards is... balance. Banning card is almost always criticized and people are angry. Banning card on one side, but unbanning some on the other side gathered less anger, it helps swallow the pill. So i put this unban/ban announcement more like a polical move rather than a fully rational one. Great video also, as usual!
the one ring was gonna be banned a year ago but if they do it people will be really mad cus they just released another one ring promo 5:42
Hollow one my King we are so back
The fact you can have more than one one ring in your deck is a major design flaw
5:28 blizzard?
some of these unbans were good its a coin flip for opal since that is backbreaking infact i kind of remember why it was banned not just artifact decks were too dominate they were way to scared of "Urza, Lord High Artificer" would make it even worse than before since you didn't need metalcraft with him in play
and a new interesting question Vexing bauble got banned for freebie spells not being usable.........so why did void mirror dodge the ban since it does the same thing, (besides being 1 mana more to cast)
Void Mirror is symmetrical, Vexing Bauble effectively isn't. Vexing Bauble can be sacced to turn on your free spells whenever you want, and even replaces itself with a card.
@arbitrarymary931 thanks that makes sense
My Hardened Scales deck is gonna be eating sooo good with opal being unbanned
Green suns zenith and mono green devotion will be insane
Banning the one ring is proof they cant even get out of their own way. Unreal.
Post malones one ring should still be usable as it makes thematic sense.
Izzet birb players living large with looting back
yeah honestly man what a shitty timing literally 1 week ago i built sauron D'x
Good thing most players don’t give a flying f-ck what WoTC has to say about cards and ignore the banned list for commander.
Not sad that The One Ring is banned. Sorry, not sorry.
The W/Rone Ring.
Artifact Salt Bomb
"Ha-Ha, Nadu...Nah, you don't."
there are dozens of modern players! dozens!
We're so back
Would it be practical to have a new "whatever word for standard, modern, ect" where the community votes on every card that would go into it capping it a a few thousand or whatever
Bans are lame. Bring back Falling Star and Chaos Orb
Lmao
Feel like companions were a bad attempt at wotc trying to copy hearthstone start of the game abilities
With out accidentally hurting another deck. Na it hurt Jund but no one pays attention to us and Wizards just makes fun of the deck.
I feel like the 4 unbanning are just Wizards trying to say sorry please play modern we don't want it to die because of our horrible management of the format.
Damnit, I just sold my 4 Opals like 4 months ago. haha.
Wait, you have a whole ass magic channel too?
Why unban Opal? Wtf? The rest of this seems fine.
I experimented with jegantha in an azorious scissors build as a card to discard to looter scooter. Def a funny misdirection at the beginning of a round.
Can see why it was banned in pioneer.
...why do you sound exactly like HirumaRed
NEVERMIND. It *is* HirumaRed.
Not surprised that you're a dork for not only WoW, but MTG and Manga.
Still hard to not comment "YA-HA!" on every video you're a part of, mate.
now unban pod and spirt guide and we will have our format back.
Vexing bauble changed legacy in a way that made it tolerable to play so I guess I’m just done there
So glad i sold my foil psychic frog lol
Honestly just ban the rest of the companions at this point. With the ever growing card pool every single one of them will be a problem eventually. Yes, even Umori.
Amazing!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
yaaay, more infinite combos
oh yeah, los compañinos
Finally, the entire Lord of khangz set should be banned.
Being a sad racist troll must be a depressing life. I'm sorry for you.
It's Green Sun "Zee-nith", not "Zen-nith"
Whatever bud
It is more regional dialect. Both pronunciations are viable depending on location.
Similar how "Z" can be "zee" or "zed".
I'm convinced the narrator mispronounces things on purpose.
I say zenith (same as video)
Still can see you don't edit your videos. Mispronounced words and multiple misspelled words in the video, and just trying to help you make the channel more professional and accurate. Guess you don't care about that and be the cellar junkie that doesn't even know how to say or spell words most 3rd graders know, even with the card in front of you. Oh well...
this channel is a joke!
The only 3rd grader i see here is the person who spent a couple paragraphs on typos
YEEEEES
The guy that spent 2 million in the 101 ring:
🤯🔫
Card is still legal in commander and it’s 1/1
They make the cards but its our game. We shouldnt listen to them regarding how to play
Considering this is talking about modern, a format with sanctioned play and has an official ban list that removes problem cards
what does this comment even mean
yeah you can play whatever cards you want on the playground while you're picking your nose. banlists for formats are to determine what is competitively healthy. Every card game does this.
Yes, in a casual setting like at home with your friends or at the LGS on the sidelines outside of whatever event is going on, that's right. There is no ban list and everything is legal assuming the other player or players agree.
However, in a tournament setting, because competitive events have rules to enforce and a ban list is one of them.
And for the record, I like playing with "anything goes" decks with my friends.
great, now they need to ban the ring everywhere else too.
It's really not a problem in commander, like at all.
MTG = 1 broke woke joke!
If they have to ban a card released a year ago then the entire design team and the entire test team needs to be FIRED!!!
Unfettered greed has killed mtg.
"Wokeness" in media doesn't hurt you, it just helps people who are different from you.
Greedy ceos and shareholders hurt us all
