It has its pros and cons, of course a 2 hour product is always easier to watch and the show goes at a more rapid pace but longer shows will allow more talent to be built up and feel like bigger deals. Id honestly prefer both shoes to be about 150ish minutes instead of 180 but idk. Im not like dreading it because some cool stuff will come from it but at the same time it will drag more sometimes which can hurt its quality
Maybe, but during the whole OG Bloodline angle, I kept up with it through the official TH-cam channels. They would literally post the entire segments for free on TH-cam. They already know most people don’t watch the whole thing. It’s just extra airtime and ad space for them.
Did I ask for 3hr smackdown? No. Will I watch smackdown for 3hrs? If it’s good.. yeah. I’ll give it a shot, if it turns out to be mostly filler, I’ll start dvring it
What they need to do is make Raw and SD two hour shows and mainly put the high to mid-high talent on those shows. Then bring back secondary shows like SNH/Velocity after the 2 main shows for the mid-low to lower talent to fill the 1 hour spot, that would give them their time on TV while not taking up the main roster time.
WWE SmackDown has been 2 hours since its debut back in August 26, 1999. While WWE Raw used to be a 2 hour format from March 10, 1997 through July 16, 2012. Now WWE Raw used to have a three hour format from July 23, 2012 through September 2024 until the show returned to a 2 hour wrestling show on October 7, 2024 through December 30, 2024. Now both Raw (Netflix) and SmackDown (USA Network) are going to be 3 hour long shows in January 2025. So, ugh it's just too much.
Not a bad idea, the last few months of smackdown have been nothing but women’s matches and tournaments, another hour will be great for storylines and to include more talent
My gf who’s a semi casual (she’s in the loop but doesn’t watch often) said she’d what 2 hours but 3 hours is pretty much a turn off for watching weekly
I mean in the long run it’s gonna be a good move just so less people complain about where’s this person or where’s that person and I do trust Triple H’s booking of course the early 3 hour shows may not be good but after a while we’ll settle in. I know there are a good amount of people that are happy about this for me I like it now of course not every 3 hour show is gonna be good. I like that most of the talent on both shows get that time on tv just so they aren’t featured every other week.
They should do 3 hour shows but throughout the year as specials; After WM, Holiday, Old School etc. limit to 12-14 each show through the year so we have 2 hour 80% of the time and 20% of it 3 hours.
I hard disagree with you. The additional hour certainly benefits the women’s portion of the business. If it were only used for the top guys and the men’s storyline then yeah I’d agree but it’s not since it’ll be used to have more airtime for the ladies. Personally I’m a casual fan of the women’s, but I do enjoy seeing the ladies do their thing it’s just not something I follow in and out of the ring. That being said, this only helps out the talent and allows them to get some tv time in. It’ll be a tough job for the writers and behind the scenes crew but that’ll mean they’ll create more jobs and hire more people. More jobs for people is always a good thing.
I guessed we have to wait to see. A 3 hour show can be good with consistent good booking. Shows with Less titles should be 2 hours. So maybe more titles is better for 3 hour format.
We are going to be getting 8 hours of WWE TV now with Smackdown and RAW going to 3 hours each, plus 2 hours of NXT. It's a bit overkill. 2 Hours has always felt like the perfect amount of TV time. Only specials and PPVs should be 3 hours or longer and even then, no more than 4 hours. Of course, there is a rumor that Tony Khan also wants to make Dynamite 3 hours, which would be a mistake. It's bad enough his PPVs go 5-6 hours.
This is the best time to change back to 3 hours. When you have so much talent and bring nxt superstars to the main roster? You need more times to introduce them to the main roster fans. So they will care for them and know them.
I don't have a peoblem with the length, I have a problem with them not doing what they promised and it not being on netflix. Even when they're going "worldwide" we europeans and co. are still getting cheated out of watching wwe without using funky websites.
The way I see it is that an extra hour can put a spotlight on issues. When a show is good it breezes by and you don't notice the 3 hours. If the show is bad though you REALLY feel it like with late Vince era Raw. When a show is middling there's times you feel a 5/10 show would have been a 10/10 had it been two hours without the bad stuff that in the moment comes off as padding for that 3rd hour. So I could see the potential but also the possible issues. Honestly it doesn't help the HHH honeymoon period is very much over for me, I so I've been criticizing the booking more than most, but I'm gonna give the benefit of the doubt
I want the 3 hour shows. I wouldn't have said that in 2019, but the past year when the lawsuit against Vince came out and he was actually, finally removed from power all together. I felt 3 hour RAW's was cooking under Triple H. Matter fact when RAW went to 2 hour after their USA contract expired, I felt like RAW was actually downgraded. Problem with 2 hour these days is WWE is so big that something always get left off. Maybe the women won't have a match (just a backstage promo), maybe some weeks there wouldn't be time to feature the midcard (looking at LA Knight US title run), maybe some weeks the tag division wouldn't get featured (Judgement Day's recent tag title run). WWE has such a big roster that they need that extra hour. Even back before the Women's midcard titles ever existed, losing that 3rd hour hurt RAW. Segments and matches were more rushed, divisions might get left off episodes entire, etc. 3 hours is what best suits WWE today.
It’ll give talent like Austin theory waller and women’s tag teams to get some air time but I agree the second hour is always a bit of a snooze to me I wish they kept 2 hours
Speak for yourself. With the extension of the Bloodline storyline and how much WWE is milking it, I want another hour on both shows. NXT can stay at 2 hours, though.
I’m going to say what I told my friend who also shares the same grievance as what you explained in this video I agree with both of you from a fan standpoint that these three hour shows aren’t needed. But, I think this could help get the talent that hasn’t been showcased on tv as much as the big players more time to get over
bro 3 hours is definitely a good idea there’s too many stars and newer star coming in it makes perfect sense. and people want the 3 hours which is why there going for it. i miss raw being 3 hours i was used to watching it since 11pm but 10pm feels weird now. i’m all in for more wrestling. i don’t watch aew at all so raw and smackdown being 3 hours each im all in.
The second Smackdown was announced as going to USA i knew it'd go to 3 hours and now it's been confirmed so not a surprise and honestly if the shows good i don't care if it's 3 hours.
Just watch it in one go. Who watches it live to go through commercials? Some stars took quite the hit in two hours. It's not like its Tony booking here.
They need to end the brand split, keep both shows two hours, get rid of all these extra titles except the WWE Championship, Intercontinental, and the tag team belts. So tired of this “give more talent air time” narrative. Like the Macho Man once said “the cream rises to the top! The cream of the crop!”. Also both world title scenes are so shallow. Back in the attitude era it used to be stacked. Gunther, Priest, Reigns, Drew, KO, Punk, Balor should all be coming after Cody. Two world titles have always been stupid. There should always be one set of tag belts. For a very long time the IC belt was the only mid card belt and people fought over it like it was the world title. They need to go back to that.
If this is being done to give more of the talent air time then it is probably better to keep Smackdown at 2 hours and bring Raw down to 2 hours then maybe introduce another main roster show. However, even that might over saturate the audience with wrestling content. It will be difficult to find the proper balance that will keep the fan based engaged and make them fill like any of those shows are pointless. Three hour shows are just a bit long for my liking. Maybe splitting the difference and making both shows two and a half hours will strike the right balance with viewers but there got to stop doing this split roster stuff only to ignore it shortly after.
Introducing another main roster show that is 2 hours long would be the same amount of time as a 3 hour Raw and Smackdown and a 2 hour NXT so why create a new show to be on a Wednesday or Thursday when it would be much simpler to make Raw 3 hours again and make Smackdown 3 hours. For the "over saturate the audience with wrestling content" part, that depends on how much wrestling content you watch during a week for example in late 2021 I started watching wrestling weekly again but decided to watch both WWE and AEW (first time actually watching because I had no way to watch it before and I was able to watch WWE on Hulu) but I started to get burnt out on wrestling again so I stopped watching then I watched the 4-11 episode of Raw in 2022 thought it was a good episode so I started watching clips on youtube of Raw and Smackdown then I watched Hell in a Cell 2022 and have been watching Raw and Smackdown every week since and in 2023 I watched the stacked episode of NXT going head to head with AEW and have been watching it every week since.
@@dbzsgtfan6952 The problem with three hour shows is they tend to drag on and fill a bit padded, in my opinion. Shows that shorter would be preferable but then some of WWE's talent might not get any air time which could lead to roster cuts. Unless there is somewhere else to put them.
Honestly I don’t really think smakdown needs to be three hours. But hopefully it will be good but two hours is good enough for me to be honest. I know some people have complained wanting it to be three hours but I’m sure am not one of those people. I do like wrestling and everything still. I just don’t think smakdown really needs its 3 hours if there going that route then they better do something special. Me from back when I was 12 would be extremely excited. But me now a days finds it a little unnecessary.
I think it's a matter of whether it's done right - the storylines for tag teams and women singles are thin and could benefit from more time if that's how they channel it and invest in better storytelling for them... much as it sounds like wishful thinking 🤷♂️
It’s too much. The only people this will appeal to is diehards. Less is more. Lucha underground and NXT at their peak were 1 hour shows and they were awesome. It actually left you wanting more. I’m absolutely drained watching one 3 hour episode of raw. I’m this day and age of short attention spans why in gods name are we making both shows 3 hours long. It doesn’t make the show better it just adds more filler.
I have gotten real into wrestling and trying to catch up to raw during the week and it got to long I am more fine with smackdown since it's a technical weekend show but it's just an extra 1 hour to long I'm fine with a once in awhile but every week is to much. I do like the womens division getting more titles so that's probably why but then give them more spotlight on opposite weeks like have a women's heavy episode and a male heavy episode I'm fine but maybe not 3 every week
I don’t mind 3 hour RAW or Smackdown shows……. It’s just the time frame 8pm-11pm?………. Most us are tired from the work week or gotta get up just a few hours later for work that morning.
Always said it should be 2 hour show with the 3rd hour being a recap show with the interviews/segments they post on TH-cam after the show
They have more titles now. They probably need more time for the stars
It has its pros and cons, of course a 2 hour product is always easier to watch and the show goes at a more rapid pace but longer shows will allow more talent to be built up and feel like bigger deals. Both rosters plus nxt are stacked with great talent so having a 3hr show is a good thing at least imo.
More wrestling is never a bad thing. I'm all for it. Besides Triple H is much better at managing the three hour timeframe than Vince ever was.
Did I ask for 3hr smackdown? No. Will I watch smackdown for 3hrs? If it’s good.. yeah. I’ll give it a shot, if it turns out to be mostly filler, I’ll start dvring it

This is the way!
Dad warned about what happened to the Rifleman, now this.
Nah it's a good idea they have 6 divisions on both brands and it gets more people on TV and it's great for there jobs.
We said
That about 3 hour raws and look what happens that shit sucked
But it's just too much wrestling when almost every show is three hours.
Bad idea
And bad for the fans

The 1 Hour special will be dedicated for the Infamous, Tonga Loa!
The invincible fight girl is a good replacement for dynamite
Bro, are you ok? You sound lethargic?

Okay if it sucks, they’ll calibrate and see if it works.
My gf who’s a semi casual (she’s in the loop but doesn’t watch often) said she’d what 2 hours but 3 hours is pretty much a turn off for watching weekly
The opinions of non-wrestling fans don't matter at all tbh. Who cares if your gf who "doesn't watch often" disapproves of a 3 hour show? Lmao
