David Draiman can make men cry, women cry….. this song touches the soul

So the story goes, God asked David if he wanted to have the voice of an angel or a devil, and David answered, YES.

David said when he came out of the recording booth after 3 hrs he couldn't looks the the others due to the tears in his own eyes from the emotions he was feeling. The others were thinking he must not have liked it because he wasn't looking at them but they were so far from the truth. To think he could feel that much emotion that he was crying himself says a lot.

I have loved this song since I was 16 and now 65 i have always told my family that this song was to be played at my funeral but once I saw this video a while back I told my family this version is to be played no matter how old I get

This video has more power and emotional effect on me than the tv show performance, the whole dramatic reenactment of the lyrics and how David's whole face and body language are so filled with pathos and anger and regret just gives me chills.

I agree, after you hear the studio version the Conan version feels somewhat empty and weak.

I like both. There's a mix of emotion in the Conon show as well . Look at his fist as the song ramps up

After David finished with this song in the booth he was absolutely amazed. Stated in an interview that he had forgotten that his his voice could sound like that.
David himself is a very kind, compassionate, intelligent man. Pull up his bio. He is a very diverse person. Huge advocate of suicide prevention, addiction awareness. He's a man to be admired.

I've seen many reactors cry both male and female. Someone reported that David was shocked the 1st time he sang it in concert and saw so many grown men cry. I've always known the lyrics to this song as it was sung and written by Simon and Garfunkel but never really HEARD them until this version.

Love your reaction! I’d never heard of Disturbed, before this popped up on TH-cam. Was blown away. Listened to it and reactions probably 100 times! I grew up with the original written by Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel (1964). Still have original vinyl. I’ve become a huge fan of Disturbed and have since watched their heavy metal videos and Concerts. Since I haven’t had time to watch you reaction to the Conan performance, I don’t know if you know that Draiman was a trained Jewish Cantor in his youth, as well as his father and grandfather before him. I’m eclectic in my music preferences early pop & rock, heavy rock, metal, industrial… I subscribed because I checked to see which bands you’ve reacted and liked your choices.

The first album I ever bought was Simon and Garfunkel’s I didn’t think anyone could ever sing any of their songs better than them but this version by Disturbed is absolutely amazing and makes me teary every time I hear it. David had an incredible voice and the emotion blows me away. I have only just found your channel, I have watched a few of your videos and love the respect you give the artists and the attention you give to the lyrics. Well done!

In the video it seems David is looking straight into your soul. If you ever heard Disturbed's Down With The Sickness you would be even more impressed by the way the band chose to do this cover. Very unexpected but so awesome.

The sheer electric energy of the live version makes it my favorite. However, the vocal control and the visuals of the video are just stunning and not to be missed! Glad you've seen both now.

I loved your reaction to this cover, the imagery is fantastic. so much symbolism in this cover, I am a child of the 60's when Simon & Garfunkel released the original in 1964 I was in high school, back then I considered it kind of country-ish, I liked it but the message didn't pierce the soul. This cover by Disturbed along with the video is the BEST it touches your soul and really gets S&G message to the core of my being and many others too, goosebumps and tears every time. "Neon God" in the 60's TV the advancement of technology NOW there is so many more especially cell phones. "Neon light that split the night", I remember when neon light would turn on there would be a crackling sound thus touched the sound of silence.

The studio version is better executed than the live version. Even if it were otherwise, I would always encourage a new listener to hear the original version first. I know this is your general rule of thumb, so maybe you were persuaded by people that said, you MUST listen to the live version. Anyway, I enjoyed both your reactions to Disturbed's take on this classic song. Crying is allowed by the way, no problem.

Thank you - there's such a stigma around men sharing their emotions. Trying to let that go now, seeing how that mentality has hurt others is enough to try and change my way.

I was totally captivated by the artistry of this video, as well as David's vocal artistry. Loved the imagery of the people with the instruments making it their mission to get to the people with the sheet music. I see this as a metaphor of how we must UNITE in these times - against the lying tyrants in the corruption cartel that the US sociopaths have built over the decades.

They use so much in the way of video clues to match the words, eg the vision planted in his brain, you see drummer pick up the drum from a bared tree that looks like the blood circulatory system of the brain. Eg the veins and arteries if you look at pictures of the brain and it's veins and arteries.
Many more little things like at the very end of video the sun rises to chase away the darkness.
Also the last line when he sings Sounnnnnnnnnd you can hear the ringing of the sound of the song in the silent piece. I found that line the most powerful just holding the Souuuuuuuuuund of silence.

From what I have heard, it was the Conan production crew that used Auto Tune against the request of David. Again, that's just what I've seen commented multiple times. Either way, great performance.

After doing a little research, I saw the same info - I'm not entirely surprised the team used it, with this idea of how everything should look and sound "perfect". The beauty of live performance, for me, is the opportunity for small little changes in the song - whether on purpose or by mistake. It adds character and flavour to the performance.

So there _one more_ instance of Disturbed's Sound of Silence worth checking out, and it has Myles Kennedy singing harmony: th-cam.com/video/H3By4DZyTNM/w-d-xo.html
And if you're unfamiliar with Myles Kennedy, you _really should_ react to Alter Bridge's live Blackbird: th-cam.com/video/YSrQlvTfB_4/w-d-xo.html
Trust me on this one. Or two, I guess.

Great reaction! If I'm not mistaken, the tempo of the live performance is slightly slower in the first stanza at least and perhaps the whole song. Both beautiful renditions, but for me the tempo of the live is more powerful from a purely audio perspective. The video is an amazing visual representation. Cheers!

Greetings from Southern California. New sub here. I’ve watched both of the DISTURBED videos. I really enjoy how you react, intelligently and insightful. I’m sure you’re getting plenty of suggestions from the others. So I have a recommendation of another group who covered this song. PENTATONIX is a 3 time Grammy winner 🤞🏼 fourth maybe, we’ll find out on the 23rd. World famous ACAPELLA group who have been together over 11 yrs. They have an incredibly loyal fan base PENTAHOLICS who are known to swarm to anyone who watches them. They are very good at helping channels grow. WATCH ONE AND THEY WILL COME 😂🤭 if you brave enough to enter this rabbit hole, I suggest HALLELUJAH or DAFT PUNK (1st Grammy) ….if you’re already familiar with them…never mind…😅🥹
