Its not very easy for non US born citizens to deal with this. Because some foreign exchange students from another country might pursue a clearance job right after getting naturalized upon college graduation, meanwhile their family members are still overseas. In order to be flawless in their clearance qualification. They might have to cut the relationship if they want to keep working in the clearance career field

Currently, I do not, nor have I ever, possessed any level of security clearance. However, I am taking into consideration the possibility of needing to get one in the distant future. In that context, how about "friending" foreign nationals in facebook and linkedIn, who currently live in Austria and Germany? From February of 1997 until June of 1998, I participated in a Study Abroad program in Salzburg, Austria, while in college. Recently, I sent "friendship requests" to two female friends I met in the dorm halls, in which I lived back then. One still lives in Salzburg and the other now lives in Berlin. I have not been outside of the United States since late June of 2001.
