5:24 I got to speak to the late Stan Lee during his last Toronto appearance back in '16. I asked him if there was any comic he wrote that just wouldn't work in live-action. His answer was that, with CGI as advanced as it is, he felt any comic could be made to work with the right director. I always wondered if there were exceptions to this thinking.
@8:01 Steven Chow's Kung Fu Hustle kinda made it work during the fight scene with the Ax Gang. Digital effects weren't as advanced as there were in 1995
This Live action version is the Epitome of LOOSELY ADAPTED! for the few things it gets right, it gets 100 things wrong, I think if the film had a better budget, writer, cast, Fight choreographer and director then the movie may have been decent. TBH I didn't mind the musical score for the film and at first the Look of the film is interesting but it doesn't fit the world of FOTNS, I wouldn't be surprised if half the films budget was spent on Dry Ice lol and i must confess there were lots of hysterical scenes involving Chris penn's dialogue and not to mention a scene with Clint howard beating up on an old woman (The acting in that scene was so bad I laughed my ass off XD) Overall a Guilty pleasure.
LOL, yeah it definitely can be a guilty pleasure. Of course I have come across some people who take it somewhat seriously as a travesty, but I guess that is the natural reaction to waiting so many years and getting... this. Did you see the clip at the end of the credits? It took me watching about 3 times to find that little "baby' thing, but I couldn't stop laughing when I saw it. Thanks for the comment
The English voice actors for Sanga and Seiji also voiced Heihachi and Kazuya respectively in the 1998 Tekken animation, which is interesting to know considering the obvious parallels between the character relationships.

Totally agree about how everyone was miscast too, just because the world was apocalyptic didnt mean the acting had to be as well. Your video was the first time ive seen the dub for Shin Hokuto no Ken and it's got me quite interested. Im not usually a big fan of dubs in general but from the clips you shown it sounded really solid. I love that series dis-bite it being soo short and to the point. It brought life to a series I never thought we would see animated again other then video game cutscenes. Another great video, looking forward to see where you take it from here.

Even if Shin were the kind of person who would attempt to murder Ryûken, he would never bother with a gun, especially when he can make people explode with his fists. In fact, the vast majority of the Hokuto Shinken and Nanto Seiken users would find guns to be either pointless, distasteful, or both. The only one of the main characters who would even consider doing that would be Jagi. Even ignoring everything else, I doubt very seriously that Ryûken would have fallen to a mere gunshot in the face.

The closest thing to a live action Hokuto Hyakuretsu Ken done well I could think are in CG filled Hong Kong films like Storm Riders, and a more practical version performed by Donnie Yen in the climax of the first Ip Man film.
Badre Bally It would have been great to see it done well in this one. I always felt like it certainly can be done well in the right hands but sometimes reality is kind of limiting. You can draw as many fists flying as your imagination can think of but a real human actor is just human. I always think of the street fighter movie when I saw the real life Zangief. A huge guy but no human can realistically be as huge and swollen as the Red Cyclone in the game. I don't think it would have changed much though because almost all the rest of the movie needed improvement.
Shin was made infinitely more villainous in the live action movie if you analyze his words and actions what he says to ryuken confirms he killed all other nanto Roku sei Ken making himself sole master denied ryuken a dignified death etc and he also a similar mentality to Jagi anything it takes to win hell just look at the final battle shin uses bar brawl tactics
Robert Kraft? I did mention him in this video but really it is all that I am aware of about him. In the end, these videos can only be so long and there will always be bits and pieces I will inevitably miss. When I just looked up Robert Kraft I didn't see anything about Dio but I could be wrong.

You gotta admit though Master of Southern Cross still sounds pretty cool haha. And I remember being pretty impressed with the look of Ryuuken coming back from the grave to haunt Kenshiro. The rest... garbage. Also I recall a few years back a youtube clip of the live action fight where Ken defeats the Chris Penn Jackal then loses to Shin being dubbed in Japanese with enhanced sound effects and I gotta say it was pretty freakin killer lol! But that video went the way of the Dodo somehow... Was that how it was released in Japan with the same voice actors from the Anime? I remember Ken's first kick to Jackal being like "WAATAAA!!!

Jagi's face wasn't obscured by his trademark mask either. In the anime and manga, his head was kept in one piece by metal structure, kind of like a cage. In a live-action version, the leather straps were holding back his exploding head.
also to me the live action movie is a actual fever dream, like whenever i remember it i only remember a few clips and just think ''oh. oh no this isn't real. this is not real i refuse to believe it is real at all'' so experiencing it properly via this vid was. sure is something
The live action movie came out in the 90s...looking at it from the current lens, yeah it was bad. We've since had high quality adaptations of various comic book, cartoon, video game and manga/anime properties. Back then though, our expectations were not so high; -we had Double Dragon, which was bad, -Super Mario Bros, which was bad, -Street Fighter the Movie, which was ok, (but changed things around) but the anime movie was better -Mortal Kombat which was actually pretty good -Masters of the Universe, which was ok -Dick Tracy, ughh -Batman, very good -Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, alright at the time -The Crow, excellent Fist of the North Star the live action movie was par for the course with some of the bad action/adaptation movies of the time. It was bad back then as well. As a fan of the animated movie (one of my first encounters with anime outside of the typical stuff on tv at the time; Macross/Robotech, Captain Harlock, Star Blazers/Yamato, Speed Racer) I ate it up. Also that was the Japanese Sega Master System/Mark III version of Fist of the North Star, not NES.
it wouldve been simple to make a fotns live action, just combine riki oh and mad max. SOnny chiba wouldve been perfect. plus he didnt even do the AATATATATATaTATA!!!!

Storm Riders is actually based off of the Manhua series of the same name. I would recommend it for the beautiful art alone.
