Wonderful aircraft. As an aviation enthusiast this video gave me a lot of pleasure. I'm a former private pilot but I'm too old now to hold a licence. My first instructor told me my landings were so good they were like a butterfly with sore feet. The captain of this Antonov did a similar job 🙂.
I am in the same boat. My instructor told me I could land my Cessna 172 in any conditions if the airport had high intensity runway lights...just ask for maximum lights and when you see the runway report to tower you have the runway in sight. Put that to the text with zero ceiling and 1/16 of a mile in fog. When I got to the fuel pumps they asked, "Where did you come from?"
Lazily pottering about my house outside Carlow a few days ago (I'm retired), I was somewhat quizzical about an unfamiliar sound, seemingly overhead, that caught my attention - it was, how can I best describe it, a durum-durum-durum droning. A quick check on FlightRadar24 indicated an Antonov AN-14 was in the vicinity - I was slightly aghast, I must say. Apparently en-crôute from Oporto to Prestwick at FL220. Made my day tbh (although Carlow, as you all know so well, is the global cross-roads of world aviation, it was charming to know something rare & interesting was traversing our airspace).
It's an amazing sound from the past. I followed one from this company last year over several days,Flight Radar, the Bunny hopping it did after Ireland was amazing, it certainly is a global cargo business......but that sound? Like white noise to fall asleep to! 👍
3:11 I remember this aircraft making head lines in Spain around 2021. As it flew around 18000 ft. From I think Zaragoza to Tangiers. Overflying Southern Spain at 4am in the morning. The turbine drone of its 4 engines. Ratterling doors, window frames and gin & tonics. People complained about it waking up children, dogs barking etc It continued flying for about 6 months. Transporting Avocado's to Tangiers. Then just stopped. But made both TV & national newspapers !
I love when these, probably this one, pass over my house heading out over the Atlantic, the sound brings back memories of childhood when those type of engines still roared in and out to/from the transatlantic routes. 🙏
Elegant approach to landing, course corrections so minimal that you have to look carefully to notice them despite the strong wind. Super-gentle touchdown and at the same time very confident sticking to the runway. It's not easy to land such a fat cow as the An-12 so softly and in such style... The pilot is as professional as possible! The great design of the plane is also noteworthy; the Ukrainians clearly put a lot of effort into making the old plane look so interesting! After all, this machine has been flying for over half a century. EU RAMBLER "shot" a real rarity!
