- Today, AD takes you inside the elegant New York City home of ballet superstar Misty Copeland. Two years ago Copeland and her husband, lawyer Olu Evans, purchased their dream apartment on Manhattan’s Upper West Side and enlisted in-demand, L.A.-based AD100 interior designer Brigette Romanek to completely reimagine the space. From the dressing room designed in collaboration with California Closets to the colorful and spacious open living-dining room, the groundbreaking dancer, author, and social activist achieves perfect balance in her new Manhattan home.

Wow, Misty is the first African American female principal dancers with the prestigious American Ballet Theatre. She is also an author of several books and she the subject of a documentary about her raise in ballet world... She also performed with Prince, she is one of Under Armour sponsored athletes, and she models and has other brand deals. She appears to be humble, very intelligent, and she has a solid team; it’s safe to say that she has multiple streams of income and she has worked just as hard of the stage to acquire the lifestyle she has grown accustomed to... She is black excellence!

😂 my husband cooks too and I thought the same. She clearly is the chef in the house so the rug is safe. When he cooks the enthusiasm means I am wiping stains off the wall and floor (that he never sees). I could not have such a nice rug on the floor with him around.

She's so elegant, articulate and poised. Her choice of saying "primary bedroom" instead of "master bedroom" was very reflective of her views and emphasis of her preference in design and art as well.
I remember when I was a ballet dancer in the late 90’s and everyone kept talking about this young beautiful girl ballerina prodigy.. and I got chance to see her perform.. my mouth dropped for a young girl started late but was recognized through Boys & Girls club

Lovely as it is, the rug wouldn't last a week in my house since we have a large family with young children. It probably still looks good and is intact in her house, though.
Beautiful rug. I couldn't have it in my kitchen though I would love one. It would be a mess within 5 minutes. Misty's rug is gorgeous though and it looks a bit like a doorway to a new and exciting land. 🤗

I wouldn’t have even thought to change the way I said that. But now I’ll try to. Primary bedroom is just as useful a term, and doesn’t carry any negative connotations. I’ve also noticed a lot of real estates now using “main bedroom” as well. I just hadn’t really thought about why.

I find her home sooooo amazing, its has two bedroom, a closet room, a kitchen and a dining/living room. Not 20 guest rooms, 3 theater room, a playing room, a kids club and I dont know what else. She seems to give importance to the thing she owns in a humble way and doesnt brag about it. Bravo

The way she talks, you get a sense she's really down to earth and rooted. She's probably one of the most authentic people who had to work hard for everything they have.

Copeland's home is simple, classy and elegant just like her. It's not overdone and ridiculously huge. That place definitely looks like a home, and probably feels the same way. What a lovely place designed for a lovely classy humble woman.

This is a good NYC home. Functional, purposeful and can be adjusted at any time. Misty has been an inspiration to me over the years. Giving her the flowers now that she deserves while she can get them.

This is definitely one of my favorite AD celebrity home tours. To hear Misty talk about the artwork and other features in her home with such joy and gratitude was a pure delight. I took 9 years of ballet in my youth, so I was relieved to hear I'm not the only clumsy dancer out there 😅. Of course, my skill level doesn't even enter into the same solar system as Misty's incredible talent. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us, Misty. ❤

Casey Smith I’ve been in schools with great art programs my whole life and fell in love with art history when I got to college! Going to museums, reading articles, and chatting with folks in the field is how I’ve discovered some of my favorite artists.

-Name - black artists have not received as much welcome or support as white artists in the creative and art world. To have such a highly regarded person publicise many black artists is huge. This is a celebration , I suggest you to be less colour blind as that is a huge part of this issue.

I love how for her guest room she still made it very modern and elegant, usually people would make their bedroom elegant and modern and then the guest bedroom not so much. It’s a really little detail and I don’t think many people would care but I just think it’s a nice little touch

This home feels like entering another space and time. The soft neutral colors just gives you peace. Even just watching this video. Immediately, you feel relaxed and comfortable and safe. I really love how she added all of these specialty wall treatments, and the chandeliers!!! Yesss!! Also, her art appreciation, dedicated to every space was just beautiful

I absolutely adore Misty ....her home is exactly my style and the choice of colors is beyond elegant but earthy at the same time...she said primary bedroom...wow...game changer on words. Notice how she didn't show the primary bathroom? I'm sure it's equally gorgeous but I get it...one room has to have total privacy and be off limits to the public...bathrooms are personal and again this speaks to her class!

I've noticed that the home owners in AD videos always wear outfits that go well with the underlying color theme of their home, instead of clashing with it. For example, Misty chose to wear a beige jumpsuit that looks so harmonious with her home, in each frame. I love it!
