    @13:37 I would have moved the coat rack over to the right away from the shelves on the left as when coats fill up the hooks, they will interfere with putting things on the shelves and removing them.
    It's called Feng Shui. Basically, making it easy to access space.
    Also, aren't those coat hooks a little too close to each other? You'd be surprised at how much space a winter coat takes up.

    Two things if you have replaced the concrete floor with wood i would put extra support under the floor were the washer stands and secodly when your washer is on full spin even if levelled correctly it will shake your tumble dryer to bits (electronics and movement). I seperated mine with a shelf unit 15 years ago and it is still working just a tip

      @@GosforthHandyman the only thing i would say is then just keep an eye on the vibration from the washer on full spin on the tumble yes like you say you have covered the support under the floor but all i was trying to say was everything is electronic these days and you don't want the vibration from the washer transferring to the tumble anyway great job 👌👌

    You can have a light switch inside the toilet anyway - it's shower basins and baths which invoke the awkward zones. I seem to recall building regs suggest 300mm clearance from sinks, but a light switch in a toilet isn't a concern. I do like the Quinetic type stuff, so long as you're prepared to rip it all out and replace it when inevitably it fails and they don't make compatible stuff any more.. in 10 years. Still haven't quite got rid of the '70s switches in this house..
    Agreed on the metal-backed edge tape. Tried it on one small bit of boxing, wish I'd just gone and got a piece of bead and taken the time to feather out. Too fiddly, too fragile, and now too much work to fix it - can't just bead over it because it's matched up to another lip which would invoke new bead on two more corners..

    Added a utility room and downstairs loo and new garage in 2020 as a side extension so we need to maintain access through it to the garden. Bit of a trade off as in an ideal world there’d also be a shower in the downstairs loo.

  • @carolynewilliams1194
    @carolynewilliams1194 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love your whole extension, not just your utility room. We’ve just finished knocking a hole through from our kitchen into our utility room as the utility room was the lightest room in the house! The kitchen is smack bang in the centre of the house. The hole is above the hob and we have an extractor hanging above it. It looks a bit like having an island in my kitchen now. Always wanted one but kitchens not big enough. We also put a downstairs toilet in the utility room with a secret door to it. Will look cool when it’s finished. Also we knocked a doorway through from the utility room to the garage. The kitchen feels a lot bigger now and is definitely a lot lighter and I can now bring the wet muddy dogs in to the house through the garage instead of through the lounge. In the last 30 or so years of living in this house we’ve added a 4th bedroom, a utility room and a play room and dining room. It’s been 30 years in the making but our house is nearly finished. Hooray! Looking forward to seeing the other projects you’ve got lined up. My husband is a diyer and has built a couple of cupboards each side of our toilet downstairs and one in the en suite. So I’m eager to see how you managed. My husband is not as a perfectionist as you, but don’t tell him I said so. 👍

    Hello! For your joining and taping I got exactly the same results as you with tape lightly coming off on some corners and even between boards. My dad (experienced French DIY with meters of jointing behind him, that’s how we do in France, rarely a full skimming) advised me to wait a bit more between coat of jointing/finishing compound so it get strong, and does not suffer from the humidity of the later coat of compound…. Don’t know if that make sense. I will test the trick when I remodel the next room! I am doing my under stair cabinet/ utility room at the moment 😅

    Main advantage of a stacking kit is a pull out shelf, so you can haul stuff out of the tumble dryer into a basket right in front, and fewer flying socks end up on the floor. Nice to have, hardly essential, if your tumble dryer goes around fast enough to become unstable something is pretty badly wrong.

    Brilliant job, as always, Andy. You were ‘down south’ last week. Now, being a Geordie, south is Scarborough and, when I lived in Bath, North was Birmingham. How far south did you get and let me know if you are anywhere near Leicester and I’ll buy you a drink. Keep up the good work 🌞

    Looks great! did your consider no sink in the loo, with the other basin right outside?
    How about heating? I guess the appliances and boiler grnerate enough.
    Do you always use the tumble if its raining? We don't have one but do have a towel rail which is useful in winter, and planning to install a ceiling rack instead

    Is the blue light unit a hot water supply for the sink?

      It's called a combi boiler. It provides hot water and heating to the whole house.

    Another great video Andy,I noticed when you were talking about the tap exploding your boiler light was flashing,I have a Bosch boiler and when that happens I have to reset it as the pilot light has gone out,mine is 9 years old so does the light just go on in the new models when it fires up

    • @GosforthHandyman
      @GosforthHandyman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah - just when it fires up. Someone must have been running a hot tap. 👍

    Beautiful job Andy. Would love to see a vid on the oak floating shelf, is that done on a router table?

    • @GosforthHandyman
      @GosforthHandyman  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, just did it by hand with the shelf in a vice and a guide on the router... very carefully! Far too dangerous to film though. 😁👍

    Is that a door stop in the floor by the washer/dryer? Why not a stopper on the top door hinge instead so you avoid stepping or stubbing on the floor piece?

    Earlier on in the video, you added supports to the over 1m shelves by running supports along the back and a metal one at the bottom where the socket is, they did not appear to be there later in the video
