This is so beautiful! I am new to gold leafing and can appreciate the time it takes to do the detailed areas. I just learned that the glue can be tinted so it’s easier to see. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work and process. ❤
When doing the taping you can use a piece of the cereal bag to pressure the tape to the canvas, like you would do for transfers. It will save friction to the fingers. Only brought to my feed in Sept 2024. Goodness what a long wait.
I'm seeing this in Dec. 2021. I love your work! You are very talented artist. Thank you for these videos with gold leafing as I'm just starting to use this medium and have learned some good tips from you!
Thank you so much for this! I tried gold leafing today, I definitely needed these pointers! The funny thing is I have everything you were using, I just didn't use it properly. Thank you sooo much!❤
Gorgeous work! I love seeing how other artist use their materials. I normally use sheets, but will give it a try with flakes too. Thanks for the tip :)
Thank you so much for sharing this! 🙌 I was driving myself crazy trying to figure out how to do fine details with gold leaf. Idk why I didnt think of just taping it off. 😅🙈
Thanks for thew lesson man. I've had such bad experiences applying my own gold leaf. But this video makes me feel like I should really give it a shot. Going to try it on my canvas right now actually! Then the painting i've been working on can finally be complete!
Do you have a preference in painters tape? Do you find one is better then the others? I'm preparing to add gold leaf to a painting, but it's a super thin border!
I find for a canvas, the standard painter tape works well but for my pencil drawings, I definitely prefer the "sensitive" or "delicate" painter tape so it doesn't tear up the drawing!
This is great, but gotta ask, couldn't you just take a glue & mix with water & apply w really thin brush..do a little bit before it dries & move on. Then any gold leaf that got sneaky in unwanted area, you can just scrape it off? Or would that method be bad? Idk..just a thought. I thought of doing it that way for my paintings 😊
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us. I have used that same tape and when I pull it off, it tears the paper. What do you so that it isn't so tacky and doesn't tear the paper?
Paper might be tricky, it looks like he is using a canvas in the video. What you can do with the tape is to stick it to a surface first, like your desk, remove and then use it on your artwork. Make sure the surface is clean and oil free. Also you might try different tape. There is washi tape for example, which is a bit more gentle.
Thank you so much for this! It was so helpful in teaching me as I explore applying silver leaf in my own drawings. I am finding the edges of my free painted glue areas are a little jagged. Is that usual? Yours look crisp and clean! Thank you
I'm assuming if you were trying this on an actual pencil drawing you'd have to do this step after you'd painted and protected the surface because otherwise the tape could take off the pencil marks with it when you remove it...
i haven't used gold leaf in a while so this is a great tutorial, i love your sponge technique in the other video, i was thinking of doing that and to see how you did it helps a lot. by the way i love when you dump all the leaf out, some bird will have a lux nest, i shave my horses and i know some bird is gna love that in the nest too, did you know God's son "hushed the wind"? in the Bible Mark 4:39...
Thanks for this video! :) I’m using Kolner miniatum adhesive but it’s just not sticking no matter how long I leave it so thinking of switching... will the adhesive you recommend work on paper with 24c gold leaf?
Paper soaks up the adhesive more than other surfaces. I have tried to do a second layer. You might also get better results with a different size. I heard Mona Lisa by Speedball is supposed to be good but I haven't tried that yet. I will move away from paper, canvas is easier to manage.
Do you find you draw differently when the camera is on? Sometimes when I record myself painting I forget I am recording but other times it's very obvious to me.
I usually only use a handful of tools: Strathmore Mixed Media Paper, a 2H, HB and 4B traditional Kimberly pencil, a .2mm mechanical pencil, a mono zero eraser, and a kneaded eraser =]
Love your drawings, they are really gorgeous! And the gold leaf enahances them perfectly..
Thank you so much 😀
Three years late to the party but found this very helpful! Thanks!

I like to use the back of a disposable plastic spoon for burnishing down the edges of the tape! Saves your nails!

Great technique! Just starting the journey using gold leaf, thank you for sharing!
Amazing, I can't stop looking at the drawing, and the gold leaf definitely makes it pop.

Great video, love your work, and your gold leaf tutorial helped me get a good start this craft, thank you!
Thank you so much! This piece of art is absolutely beautiful!!
Amazing work. Absolutely love this peice! Your so talented 🥰😍

that is stunning
this is so satisfying to watch! i've been wanting to try out gold leaf so this helps a lot!
Thank you! I make such a mess when I do gold leaf, I think I will start doing it outside too. Where can I view the finished piece?
Would silicone sculpting tools work for applying the glue ? So i can keep using it later and not a paint brush.
What kind of canvas or paper are you using for this drawings ? Thank you 🙏
This was actually a canvas print of the original drawing so I get them made at a local warehouse =]
Enjoying your videos. Thank you! Do you paint over it? Can you oil paint over them?
I personally don't but someone could def oil paint over them!

How you protect your drawing from hand smudge when you work with gold ?
Did you spray it or what?
Do you use anything to seal the gold leaf to the canvas when completed?
How did you ink that big and amazing draw?
Or everything is pencil
Gorgeous 💜
Appreciate ya
Someone may have already asked, but can you use liquid frisket? Just curious 🤔.
Thanks!
Zthank you sir hvng jut recently started the (effort)😖🙈myself , great advice thank you.
its amazinnngggg thank you so much!! How long take the glue to dries?

If your glue bottle becomes clunky, can you add water to it or is it just garbage at that point?
As it’s not real gold leaf I’m just wondering what kind of product do you use to protect the gold leaf from tarnishing once you finish the artwork?
I do use a gold leaf sealer which will help preserve it over time =]

Hi! This tutorial is great. Thanks for taking the time to do it! Do you need to varnish the gold leaf so that it doesn't oxidize?
Typically yes, And some kind of sealant to protect it at the end!! =]
@@vonnart Thanks!
Thank you so much bro!
This is great!
What glue/gold size do you use? And do you varnish the gold afterwards? Thank you! Great Video!
Can you gold leaf after you have painted the canvas? Or is it best to do it first?
I'm assuming if you were trying this on an actual pencil drawing you'd have to do this step after you'd painted and protected the surface because otherwise the tape could take off the pencil marks with it when you remove it...
Yes that is absolutely correct!!
@@vonnart phew, I thought so - speaking from experience with masking fluid removing my lines LOL

Do you seal your artwork with anything before applying the leaf? With the tape and the brushing I imagine it could damage the work underneath.
Normally I use a matte fixative on my pencil drawings but this is actually a canvas print of the original so there was no sealing necessary!
What did you prime the picture with prior to doing the leaf? And did you draw with pencil?

Is drawing your full time job? Cuz it should be!!!!👌🙌✨✨
What do you do when you have one original piece and putting tape down may ruin the drawing?
Very nice :)
what is the tape you are using please? i used masking tape and is not great
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Yes, I definitely tend to work slower lol
watching this, lesson i learned is not to apply gold leaf outside the house, better in a contained area like a room. ^_^
is it on canvas?
with pencil?
These are actually canvas prints of the original pencil drawings =]
HOW can we clean the excess if it will stick !!
you should try using gum arabic instead of glue since it doesnt ruin your brushes and you can seal it with the same gum arabic so it doesn't oxidise
Hello, can you help me on how to use gum Arabic and gold leaf
Cay you make me or make a list for all your fans about the items you need to create yoir amazong art
Im mean paper, pencils, etc

@@vonnart amazing.
Your art inspire me a lot.
Do you think, the day you make it, is the way art noveau artists used 100 years ago ?
Look at you spilling all that gold and letting it fly away with the wind
this is me clipping my horse (in case you were wondering)

Hello, do you use a sealer to seal the whole piece or you seal only the gold leaf part? What kind of sealer do you use? Thanks
