Randy Meisner is one of the best bass players to ever live. His lines are perfect, smooth, melodic, rhythmic, memorable. Since I was a kid and my dad would play the Eagles my ears would zero in on those beautiful bass lines.
Man, I loved Richie Furay and the bands he was in. I still listen to that music today (not on my vinyl that are still in boxes, though) I've said it hundreds of times, but I never thought that type of music would ever stop being made because it was SO good. I would hope that millions of people are still listening to it like I am.
I saw Poco in concert in 1971. Had no idea who Timothy B. Schmitt was. Their singing as a group was spot on perfect. Timothy B. stood out though. I was a fan ever after. Tim's bass playing always fits the song perfectly.
Don't ask me to choose which is the better vocal performance -- Randy Meisner's "Take It To the Limit" or Timothy B. Schmit's "I Can't Tell You Why" or Richie Furay's "On the Way Home." I just know those three voices are somewhere in my top 100 singers of all time.
Forgive this bass player for the hijack...Just for fun, listen to the bass on On the Way Home. Its awesome.. Messina said it was him. It is also said that Furay was chosen to sing lead, because his voice was more normal compared to the writer of the song, Neil Young.
Poco "From the Inside" album is one great piece of work...songs like "What am I gonna do", "What if I should say I love you" "You are the one".and "Bad Weather"...priceless.
I love you Richie. I remember meeting you at Kumalani Chapel 💒 back in the 80s. We had a chat and I told you how my friends and I just adored Poco and had it blasting from our vehicles with us singing along. I was so thrilled to meet you and hope you come back to Maui and play at the MACC. Aloha Ann Marie🤙🏽🥰🙏🏽
This reminds me of my brother in law. He’s working out with a guy in Manhattan names Felix. People are coming up to him and getting his autograph. My brother in law after a while says “are you famous or something”? Felix says “ I used to be in a band”. Felix Cavaliere of the Rascals. My brother in law wasn’t up on all things rock n roll.
Great interview!! I love Poco! Nothing to Hide is one of the greatest songs in history. Great vocals and the harmonies were so great. And the music is legend.
Richie seems like a friendly and unpretentious guy. I wish I could bump into him in a grocery store. I have listened to the Springfield my entire life and lived in the L.A. area when they were hot. I was stoked to see them in 2010 in Oakland, Ca. Kind Woman is one of the greatest songs ever written.
For myself the genre Country Rock was invented the second I heard “Pickin’ Up The Pieces” by Poco and written by Richie Furay. He is the godfather of Country Rock as far as I’m concerned. Poco brought the rock to county and everyone else followed. Every bit as significant as any of their peers. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Actually, Gram Parsons was the one who paved the way. Also Lonnie Mack. But I get what you are saying, and in my opinion, it depends on who you were exposed to first. :)
I am a little biased when it comes to those two bass players I know they are both great musicians but I think Randy was the better singer even though I love Timothy B's vocals with Poco and the Eagles I give the edge to Randy because after all he and I are both Nebraska boys.
Randy was brilliant, specially his voice was amazing and he was a charismatic man. Timothy also is a good musician, but not the same like Randy.❤ But both were respectfull.
Just want to thank you, John, for these videos. I always find them informative and entertaining. Pretty cool to hear you interview some of my rock idols after all these years!
Richie Furay is one of my favorites, along with Graham Parsons, Chris Hilman, and those two bassists you guys were s0eaking about! Randy's work with Ricky Nelson was great, then he was some country-rock group after Poco, and they did pretty well! Tomothy B Schmidt singing Keep on Tryin' and on Love Will Keep us Alive, I can't Tell You Why = all perfection.
We would be far better off if we all held ourselves to some of Richie's moral standards and common sense. Sure, he's politically conservative, but what's wrong with that?
My favorite bassist from Poco was Charlie Harrison, who in my opinion doesn't get enough love, probably because he didn't become known more as a vocalist like Tim and Randy became.
Ohhhh.. I knew. Middle of summer in Rocky Mountain National Park on the West side of the Continental Divide. LoL An International Harvester Scout pulls up, 2 Ladies get out after we were there a few minutes ahead, didn't notice the deiver. My friend n I trying to take each other's picture, the ladies say, "local girls if you take ours" "Sure" All done we thank them, we get in to go, my friend is actually driving my car so I didn't on the passenger side look over to the drivers side and noticed the gentleman driving, say something like "thanks have a nice day...BOOM. IT HITS ME... OMG, THAT'S RICHIE!!! I whisper to my friend, look look, OMG he whispers. We were big Richie fans. The rest is history lol
How could you call Meisner "a Poco bass player?" He recorded on only the first Poco album . . . and his voice and playing were not used on a single track! And, correct me if I am wrong, he did not play a single Poco concert. I believe it was Furay's insistence that Meisner not be allowed to participate in, or even audit, the final mix that caused Meisner to leave the band.
You should ask Richie if Randy Meisner was such a great guy why wasn’t he on the cover of Poco’s debut album? He played and sang on it but his vocals were removed from the final cut of the album? Weak move, Richie.
yeah after he made it big with the eagles he became the grestest guy but he got kicked off during the recording of picking up the pieces and his vocals and bass lines were taken off and re done by jim messina
Timmy was much more of a songwriter than Randy. He had amazing songs on every album from the time he joined until he left to join the Eagles- From the Inside, Good Feeling To Know, Crazy Eyes, Seven, Cantamos, Head Over Heels, Rose of Cimmaron, and Indian Summer. Those are eight amazing albums with stellar songs from Timmy on every one of them.
Randy Meisner is one of the best bass players to ever live. His lines are perfect, smooth, melodic, rhythmic, memorable. Since I was a kid and my dad would play the Eagles my ears would zero in on those beautiful bass lines.
What a class act Richie is!!! Has the best of all worlds...great musician and soul saver for Christ.
AMEN!!!
Poco made songs that you never get tired of hearing.

TBS for me

Randy, Limit , no contest.
Randy Meisner for me
No contest,Randy Meisner, all the way! 💯percent!
Richie is so down to earth. Living legend with an amazing set of pipes!
Poco "From the Inside" album is one great piece of work...songs like "What am I gonna do", "What if I should say I love you" "You are the one".and "Bad Weather"...priceless.

Richie Furay = Living Legend
Richie seems like a friendly and unpretentious guy. I wish I could bump into him in a grocery store. I have listened to the Springfield my entire life and lived in the L.A. area when they were hot. I was stoked to see them in 2010 in Oakland, Ca. Kind Woman is one of the greatest songs ever written.
Such great love for his wife all these years. The LORD has used Richie to minister to so many!!!
He is just as nice in person as he seems.
I really enjoy these Richie Furay clips. What a great guy.
I just love Richie and all the groups he has been in, thanks!

Picking up the Pieces was released in May 1969. The Byrds' Sweetheart of the Rodeo was released in August 1968.
Could be alot of musicians! I know Michael Nesmith doesn't get the credit he deserves.
Poco was the Bass supplier for the Eagles!
Amen
Ya think
Eagles harmonies never as good after Randy left. But Timothy has a very great voice.
The only band with so much Rock History/Hits I can think of that the only thing anyone wants to discuss is their Ex bass players
I am a little biased when it comes to those two bass players I know they are both great musicians but I think Randy was the better singer even though I love Timothy B's vocals with Poco and the Eagles I give the edge to Randy because after all he and I are both Nebraska boys.
Timothy is a fine singer but I agree, Randy was more versatile and could sing anything in his heyday.
All these old rockers have a good unpretentious attitude ... So refreshing compared to the Me generation of current performers

I know that guy. Thank you Brother John. Have a great evening Friday! God bless.
RIP , Rusty Young. you were the best steel player in rock history .
And the steel originated on Maui.
I love these stories on these interviews. Another interesting one.
This is really good. What a cool guy 👍🏻😎
Bottom line, "Randy got the job" ❤
This was such a pleasant interview with Richie. I'm so glad he didn't go anywhere near his politics that he posts on FB.
We would be far better off if we all held ourselves to some of Richie's moral standards and common sense. Sure, he's politically conservative, but what's wrong with that?
Legend...and seems like a really nice guy :)
I like Randy. I can't tell you why.
😁😁😁I got it
Mr John , Great interview keep um coming please .
ROCK ON !! ROCK HISTORY. Com
The Troubadour cd is fantastic! I just ordered the signed dvd 😀
I am a huge Richie Furray fan!
Love this channel!
I always loved Poco , and I still have the Buffalo Springfield album for what its worth. I love that album. So many great songs.
Yes Randy was the. Life and the sound of the Eagle Randy a big EAGLE. THEY DO NOT APRECIATED TO Míster Randy Meisner
My favorite bassist from Poco was Charlie Harrison, who in my opinion doesn't get enough love, probably because he didn't become known more as a vocalist like Tim and Randy became.
Chs 751 - oh yeah man Charlie Harrison. George's little brother.
Richie is so funny. LOL. I enjoy these stories.
He's royalty to me. Springfield and Poco. Very cool.
I love both Buffalo Springfield and Poco.
I love Poco great music
Poco Legend!! 👍👍👍👍👍

Misner. THE BEST.

Why did Randy get the job? Call it love.
I hope they don't ask .... "didn't you used to be ... "
Rocks.
I’m having a hard time ordering a shirt. It never lets me complete the order. Do you have a phone number to order that way?
"Some difficulties at the time"
How is Randy
He seems like a really nice guy.

How is Randy. HIS PUBLIC WANTS TO KNOW. OR MY BE HE IS A. CONVALECENT. HOUSE FOR ELDER PEOPLE ?????
You rooted for Florida. WTF???
He and Hillman both are born again annoying.
Timmy was much more of a songwriter than Randy.
