i thought this plane is outdated but it turns out it's new pala.
I flew on this type of aircraft as a passenger on a flight route to the Palawan Islands in Philippines back in 2019.

ATR need to develop a 100 seater turbo prop for short hauls and shorter runways.
Problem is the heavier the plane is, the more runway length it needds to take off in the small airports, so they have to fly one by one

i dunno.. but more like, why not bombardier Q-400. the same as the one being use by PAL. they're both turboprop engine like the ATR 72 -600. they must have their reason why they choose the french company instead of the canadian.

To answer all your questions. Because Airbus gives them huge discounts to buy only their aircraft. So why not the Dash 8? The Dash 8 is a competitor of the ATR 72. Half of ATR is owned by Airbus.

i think just like other airlines they prefer atr and airbus because of fuel efficiency, its up to the president of the company weather they will buy a boeing or an airbus. another thing is the capacity, some routes have less passenger so smaller aircraft could fly in that route as well as long haul routes. they purchased airbus and atr because of fuel efficiency and fuel friendly
what?? where did you get that fact? lol boeing wish all airlines would buy from them. why would they discriminate a buyer?. that don't make sense. Cebu pac and other airline just prefer airbus. maybe it meets their expectation. i dunno.. you know cebpac used to operate boeing 757 right? their must be a reason why they only using ATR 72 - 600, Airbus A320 & A330 on their fleet now. they retired the 757 in 2006. also, they only ordered A321- 200 and A321 neo for the future. same as PAL, most of their fleet is from airbus. A320, A330, A340. the 747 is retired in 2014. tho they ordered 777 to replace the 747, and they also ordered A350 to replace the A340.
