Great job and thanks for sharing! Extending the cylinders would have helped to lower the oil level so the shop vac would've worked a little better. All in all it was a relatively clean swap. Thanks again for your patience and willingness to make your machine better.
To the suggested ball valve comments, there are far greater potential dangers compared to benefits of adding ball valve to the suction line. If that valve gets closed inadvertently, it would cause a pump failure or cause other issues.
Also, please emember that I don't make the pumps, or get any money back from the vendor if they don't work correctly. In 2020, we had a choice... find a pump that works so I can fulfill customer orders or I cancel orders and close the doors. We did the best we could with the parts that were available, some of those parts were less than stellar but we are committed to making sure our customers are taken care of now that better parts are available.
Thanks for all your help on this pump Chris. I knew I forgot to extend cylinders. I totally understand the problems that were going on in the last few years with parts availability.

Who manufactures the pump? Whats its efficiency rating and gpm at 3600? Im guessing 22gpm? Do you also sell them? Standaes SAE2 pattern im guessing?
I have a 28 Pro that I got Jan. 2021. I also changed the pump with a new one that Chris sent me. The cycle time is 4 seconds faster. Plus the log lift and wedge cycle faster. I extended all three cylinders to help get fluid out of the tank and used a shop vac. Didn’t loose any fluid when I removed the hose and attached it to the new pump. It’s a great splitter, Great customer service.
I agree the product and service at Wolfe Ridge are top notch. We will get a better idea of what we gained when we do some actual splitting with it. I'm sure the oil wasn't up to full temp running it in the garage.

Very well executed! Looks like watching other messing with hydraulic oil got you skilled at that! Lol! Assuming you ran very few cycles in the garage (door shut), you will gain even more than 2 seconds when the oil gets warmer. That is indeed a huge factor in cycle time when you have high capacity pumps. But to begin with, 2 seconds is huge already! Thanks!
I think we may actually be able to get out and do some splitting this week. Then we'll see exactly what we gained. But yes the 2 seconds is a great start. Thanks for checking out the video.

I general no teflon tape is used in hydrolic systems as it can partially dissolve and cause clogs in the system and/or damage the pump. If you look back, the high pressure fitting came of the old pump without teflon tape. So it is not needed.

The only fitting you use thread sealant or tape on is regular pipe thread. Other types of hydraulic fitting thread are not made for tape and you never use it

@@Lifeinthe906 the short lesson is pipe thread is tapered so the seal really is created on the threads... so you use thread sealant. Other types of fittings seal on a machined face with an o ring or other type of mechanical seal, not the threads

The story on the pumps is that WR was told they were just as good as the Concentric pumps, they tested fine at the factory but failed prematurely. What was your cycle-time before the pump swap?
The last video he did said that the machine was rated at 12 second cycle time but he said it’s even slower than that. Yikes that pales in comparison to the Eastonmade splitters.
Yep that's the story I heard too. The cycle time was over 12 seconds

How many GPM pump did you originally have and what was the GPM replacement pump ?
I believe that it came with a 16 GPM pump. From what I understand that pump was not performing to specs. I assume the replacement was also 16 GPM

I feel like you have the hose clamp to far out. Go back in the video, and you will see how close to the pump it was originally. Half the clamp appears it is on taper, and half is just on hose now. I know it is low pressure side but vibration might cause it to start seeping or let clamp slowly cut into the hose...
You also realize that you will need to hustle even more in order to keep the beast fed now, right!?!?😂

As of about a week ago is sure was. Looks like we might be getting some spring weather real soon.
How come there put a shut off valve at the tank Mike . $9 dollar part . Mike don’t use white pipe tape not make for heat . Use the yellow tape I think it for heat in hydraulic system. White for water fixing Mike .

The price they charge for these machines, they should have a shut off at the bottom of the tank. So many problems with this brand, I would never ever buy one
The shut off would definitely make things a lot easier for doing work on the pump. Do you know if other brands have a shut off?
@@Lifeinthe906 I'm not sure but a ball valve is real cheap considering how much benefit it would be. Easy retrofit too.
Wow... There really are not that many issues. We have built literally thousands of wood splitters. You have seen less than 10 videos with any type of trouble. When there was an issue, we made it right.
A $30 ball valve on that machine not only costs more, but could also burn up that pump if it gets closed and the operator forgets or does not notice.
