  • This video is going to show you how to grind flame patterns in metal.
    Hey guys! In this video, I'm going to teach you how to grind flame patterns in metal using a 4 1/2 inch angle grinder. It's a very simple step by step process that anyone can learn. We will be using a piece of 16" x 24" 18 Ga. cold roll steel. This is a fun way to make DIY metal art at home.

    Wow! Nice work Kevin. I'm getting ready to start doing sheet metal art and I'm checking out people's videos such as yours to get some ideas and techniques. I have seen many people grind without a guard before, but the ones that do, usually are wearing safety glasses or a face shield. There's no way I would ever risk losing an eye when it could be prevented. Thanks for posting this video!

    Awesome! I was looking up how to make patterns because I want to decorate the handle of a knife I’m making. I probably won’t be able to do this because of space limitation but I will definitely use the techniques. Thank you!!!

    Great demo Kevin. Being your newest subscriber the pressures on to produce the follow up video... i enjoyed your demo but the biggest takeaway is your easel/stand. It’s genius my friend and my next project! I know you talked a bit about how you constructed it, If you’re so inclined I know I’m not the only one who’d appreciate seeing & hearing more detail on the build. Looking forward to seeing your follow up & many more videos by you!

    Kevin, I picked up a steel coffee table that is partially done, but I want to make it more uniform and five it more depth with the circular swirls. Do I have to sand it down, or just go over existing pattern. Wish I could attach a picture!

    THanks for sharing Kevin - much appreciated.
    What grit were you using for the initial prep of the steel? Would you use similar on aluminium?

    • @kevinthompsonmetalartist1202
      @kevinthompsonmetalartist1202  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sorry for the long delay. Personal business got in the way and I forgot, Sorry!! I use 80 grit on everything anymore. I used to use 36 gr. for a while but found it to be too aggressive and not as much reflective value from the grind. I just different speeds on movement and angle of the grinder. You can use the same grit on aluminum, but I don't grind it because I can't flame paint it. After this crazy freeze passes, I'm going to make some more videos on flame painting. Feel free to reach out to me anytime and bounce ideas off each other It's hard to find like-minded people in this space. 469-446-5250. Thanks and have a great day. Kevin

      @Gate-way2Life ปีที่แล้ว

      Cold rolled as far as I am aware has no mill scale and polishes easily. You usually have to use muriatic acid to get the mill scale off hot rolled.
