Thanks. I am now thinking about attaching the Scotty mount to the back of my crate (outside the crate or if I want to save deck space I can mount it inside) and jamming the PVC into it. That way the camera would be directly behind me instead of off to the side. And I don't have to try to adjust for level or make a bend to the holder.
I have a lot of GoPro accessories and I highly recommend taking the longer screws that you would use for the GoPro to the mount and mark them with a white marker or white out so I'm not fumbling looking for the right size screw. Some of the shorter screws for the attachments won't work on the actual camera to mount
Good tip on rule of thirds. Another compositional element that is widely overlooked is do not put your head on the horizon line. It should either be above or below.
+John Whitehead Images Exactly but that is easier to control if you have a cameraman. Not so easy when you are filming yourself in a moving object like a boat.
+Flukemaster Hi< gene i am looking into getting a camera to record my fishing do you think it would be better to buy the hero 4silver or the session because the session is now on sale for $199, thanks and check out my channel.
Why not remove the elbow joint all together when using the swivel GoPro mount? It would likely increase stability when shooting. Really cool video Gene, always looking for tips like this.
good deal bro. I have a small cheap camera that I want to try the PVC stand so I can record when I catch something in stead of just my phone. great tips 👍👍
When you insert and remove a number of times so the fit gets loose, you could cut off the worn end with a cutter and reuse. This would shorten the pole a short bit but should still be workable.
THANK YOU!!! I've liked your fishing videos from minute one. Now I like your videos even more knowing you shoot them with GoPro's LOL. THANKS for the tips. Been trying to figure out a better way to mount them and now I have several new ideas, thanks to you. Been using a Scotty Extender on a track behind/next to me but, like you said, it gets in the way of fishing from my kayak. And then there's always the chance I'll whack it, snap it off, and knock it overboard. Kayaks, Fishing, Scotty, and GoPro. Does it get any better than that?
Hey Gene, I want to use GoPros for my kayak fishing trips. I was thinking of getting two Hero 4 Sessions, but now I'm reading the battery life isn't great and you can't swap batteries. Would you recommend a combo of a Hero 4 Session and Hero 4 Silver?
+John Gomez They are correct about the session. I'd get one or two hero 3s or 4s but get the same camera if you are going to use two. The resolution is always different between models. I have a 3 silver and a 3 black and even those are very different
+Cody Johnson (Fishing) Adjust your settings (if you haven't already). I have 2 gopros that I use and 2 standard batteries each will last me 7+ hours. No protune, 1080 only, usually 24 or 30fps, rarely more, turn off wifi, use loop recording (also saves memory card space and makes editing easier), stop recording when changing spots...I'm considering adding a 10-12mah 12v battery (similar to a power wheels battery) with a 12V plug and a simple cigarette adapter USB plug, then modify a skeleton or the waterproof housing for the cable. 15' mini USB for $2, $15 for a 12V receptacle, a little wire and $25 for the battery.
Hey flukemaster I see you do a lot of lure reviews and I haven't seen you do a buck tail jig. If you don't fish with them I think you should try em out

Great video and ideas! Thanks! You can just bet I'm going to come up with a few basic and specialized mounts for fishing here in Colombia.
Hey Gene have ever tried the mount on the microspike? Great video.
+andrew fogle Nope.

I put one on my milk crate behind me and one on my scotty track with a part of the base of a scotty rod holder works great
I filmed with my Go Pro for the first time yesterday as a test and it all worked. Now for better camera angles.
As always thanks learning a new trick every time!
+Mark Polsky You're welcome Mark
This video is amazing! I just came out of home depot with what I need! Thanks Geane!

When you insert and remove a number of times so the fit gets loose, you could cut off the worn end with a cutter and reuse. This would shorten the pole a short bit but should still be workable.
+Andy Davidson The only problem with that is that I paint the poles and if I cut it off the fittings won't go on anymore.
for sure gonna make a few mounts like those, the bank one is a good idea. Is there a good mic that goes to the $129 gopro hero?
+sampson583 I don't know about a mic for that. I use a Sony UWPD11/30 Lavalier Microphone

+Benjamin Fourman Thanks Benjamin. It's all about solving problems when it comes to filming from a boat or kayak.

Thanks for this video! My hobie needs this.
On your GoPros what do you use to power them all day? I use extra batterys but the cameras always seem to go dead as the most inconvenient times lol
+Cody Johnson (Fishing) Adjust your settings (if you haven't already). I have 2 gopros that I use and 2 standard batteries each will last me 7+ hours. +Cody Johnson (Fishing) What he said. I also use The Frame Case and Wasabi Power Exteded life batteries. I get about 6 to 8 hours out of each battery.
Hey flukemaster I see you do a lot of lure reviews and I haven't seen you do a buck tail jig. If you don't fish with them I think you should try em out
+andrew sims I have to start fishing them first.
Quick question Gene...what type of external mic do you use on your GoPro's? Thank you and keep up the great work!!
Look at panfishes comment from 3 months ago
If you don't glue all fittings, do you put a float on the gopro just in case?
When they start to wear out I replace them. That happens after about two years of use.
Hey gene if I were to buy a hobie pro angler just starting out would you recommend the 12 or the 14
+we do it (hardfishing) either one. I love my PA 14
Weird question but are you ever going to get power poles on your boat
+Msufisherman I've been thinking about it.
Nice sunglasses what kind are they?

+L.D.R. Sony UWPD11/30 Lavalier Microphone
Great video! Thank you!
have you used store bought mounts or do you just prefer these?
+Ben_Wilson Outdoors I prefer making my own. I am working with a company to design some that can be purchased on line and will be more durable.
