  • Laser failure caused by factory assembly error and wire fatigue. Can be fixed by soldering in new wire or buying new Laser Module Assembly "Hitachi 324-710"

I have a C10-FCH with similar issues-long time intermittent laser, finally not working at all. I found that the laser feeding wire was kinked at the place where it takes a 90 degree turn into the internals of the laser. Stripping, reconnecting and soldering the wire solved my problem. Note that there was no flexing at that juncture, just a wire that could not take 20 years of the static bend. KEY!-I never noticed the laser on/off switch on the control handle used to align the laser beam--see your manual. The above video gave me direction but was complete overkill for my issue--I needed to remove just 4 screws. To start fixing I'd recommend the following process. Take a flashlight to the top of the switch housing to see where the wire leaves the switch and runs down the arm. It will go under a plastic cover that is held on by just two screws (It is marked "ABS"). It will be most convenient to first remove the carrying handle also held on by two screws. Now the plastic cover is held on by one screw just near the plastic switch cover and then on the other side partially covered by one of the safety supports for the blade guard. The latter can be reached with a small screw driver with the saw arm held half way up. Once off, you will see the wire run down the arm and take the 90 degree turn described above. Plug the unit on and turn on the laser beam so that it is always on. Wiggling the wire a bit may give a clue as to where you fault is. It did not for me, but once I reconnected the wires, I showed me that the laser now works. Start there--do not disassemble the switch unless you must!

Thank you. I have the same saw, same problem. The laser is solid state so unless there was a nasty power surge or something it's unlikely it stopped working -- highly likely the the wire is the problem. The wire takes a circuitous path from the switch to the laser, many curves and many places where the wire could be breaking from stress. I just took out the middle section of wire and soldered, taped the connections. And then taped the wire to the saw more loosely allowing more gentle curves. The previous wiring lasted around 10 years so if this lasts half that long I'll be happy.

I figured that's what happened to mine. I just never got the ambition to take stuff apart to figure out where the wire broke. Laser is a neat idea, but tapping the work with the blade has always gotten me to the same spot. Now I'll have to take it apart when I'm bored one day and see. I'll be the laser is fine.

Thanks my wire was broken near laser at the cable tie . I knew the 6 volts from switch was there . Just had to remove small panel by connector to check for voltage from switch and then guard at side / rear to repair , thanks

glad it helped. I've gotten so much held from online videos, I probably should pay it back as I can!

Thanks for the information. I'll be pulling mine apart later. I also noticed the back light for the angle readouts is not working as well so I'll check into that at the same time :)

Great info. Mine failed just one day. Or I thought so... Anyway, on mine 10" one the beam stopped working. Completely. I was sure it burned out as the net says.
Turned out there is a Laser switch on the right side of the handle. I got this miter used and never saw manual. Well, half way through the disassembly I noticed the tiny switch. It was just in OFF position... Must have happened accidentally.
Anyway, it was still great info and that would be very easy fix.

My never worked so this morning I decided to give it a whirl, all my wires are intact. I'm going to take my multimeter in a probe and see if I can get some power down by the laser or I may not, no biggie really I know where I'm cutting.
