    thanks for the video, it really helped me. i’m super nervous because it’s my first year showing pigs and the first show is in 2 weeks but i tried some of your tips and the pigs are looking pretty good!

    Great videos. I’ve always had trouble keeping the pig’s “head up” when starting to train. All my pigs want to stop or back up when we start tapping under the nose. Most videos I’ve seen show how to do it once the pig is already trained. Could you do a video on “head up” and how to train “commands” with younger pigs?

    This is so impressive! I've always wondered how on earth you control a pig! We are getting into breeding pigs for meat, and have thought about the kids showing them, but never understood how on earth to train them. Thanks for sharing these videos!

    Hey, I was wondering if you would change anything about yall's practice plan if you only had a month. Because, I wasn't going to be able to show this season, but I got a Bluebuck gilt and she is having some trouble trusting different places and new things. I have showed 7 shows but am still pretty green any advice yall have would be welcome.

    I’ve never showed a pig before this is my first time even touching and being with one. I had let him out of his little enclosure and tried to run away so i had to chase him, not only that but every time i show him the whip/guiding tool all he wants to do is chew on it even when i’m trying to guide him, he also keeps trying to bite and nudge me, please i need some advice what do I do?

    Hi,
    Do you recommend feeding after walking or before? This will be my daughter first year showing.. your video has been very helpful with we’re to tap with whip how to keep head up plus the endurance. I look forward to more videos they really help.
    Also I see you’ve replied to previous comments about the feed you use”Linder” have you used MoorMan’s show feed? Only ask because that’s the feed our local feed store carried.
    Thanks!

    • @brockmanfarms8939
      @brockmanfarms8939  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      skyler pape Hi there! So glad you are finding them helpful.
      We always practice with them after they have eaten. They will act much better for you that way.
      It’s been 20 years since I’ve had any experience with Moormans 😁 however all of the principles we will discuss at some point as far as feeding based off your pig’s muscle, fat and overall phenotype can be applied to any feed! Where are you located?

    • @skylerpape410
      @skylerpape410 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome! I’m located by Gonzales Tx
      Will you be making videos on types of supplies or even why you’ve chosen to pick Linder show feed? Ex: shampoos for color how to use clippers and supplies. I’ve seen other videos but you really touch base with this training video I bet others will be just as helpful is why I ask.

      skyler pape Yes ma’am I hope to cover daily care and supplies this week actually!
      I have worked for Lindner Feed for ten years and that is what we feed all of ours kids Showpigs.

      Thank you! Yes I know E Bar Feeds I’ll call in the morning in see. Do you know if Lender has videos of what to feed? Ex: what to start them off on when brought home when to change up and what to look for I’m sure this will be something you will cover also. I really appreciate your response!

    • @brockmanfarms8939
      @brockmanfarms8939  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      skyler pape yes ma’am we do. On the website. We start most of ours on 611 for the first two weeks. Unless they have a lot of muscle then we might look at starting them on something else.
      On the page for each feed on the Lindner website it shows a video of the type of pig you would feed that feed to.

    We have an 11 week old Duroc barrow weighing 88 lbs that we have been training for 2 weeks now. We continue to have trouble with the “go” buttons. Using 2 Weaver firm whips on either side just results in pig stand still. If we push on his buttocks he locks his front hoofs. Any suggestions?

    • @brockmanfarms8939
      @brockmanfarms8939  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thomas Rut You might try letting him just hang out for a minute or so in that environment and let him get used to it to where he walks around a little on his own. Once he seems comfortable then try again.

      I’m not showing pigs but I’m watching to try and learn maybe how to take them from one pasture to another using show training walking. Is that possible? Also how do you get them not to want to nibble your boots? We have 2 pigs that are 9 months old, one 6 months, and one that is 3 months. The male is 6 mo, the rest are females.

  • @kendallmadison9923

    What do you feed your pigs? And is it okay to feed them outside of their everyday food, like snacks?
    Edit: treats

    • @brockmanfarms8939
      @brockmanfarms8939  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We feed Lindner Feed.
      No ma’am I wouldn’t recommend feeding treats. Couple of reasons, depending on what it is that your feeding as a treat it could alter or change the protein or fat levels you are targeting for their daily diet.
      Also, you don’t want to get in the habit of giving them something every time you walk in the barn. It will teach them if they get up and scream that you will give them something to eat.
      We just feed twice a day, the ration we believe they need from a protein and fat standpoint based on their muscle and fat cover.

    I know I’m commenting late, but I can’t get my pig to walk he ends up sniffing all the other pens/pigs and won’t move. I don’t know what to do because he can’t walk by the fence without getting distracted.

  • @sharibakker4767
    @sharibakker4767 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You guys need to walk them for longer periods of time at an early age othwise they will be grumpy and as they get older they will figure out their surroundings and like start to fight you after about 10 minutes.
