This one makes more sense after you realize how Precise Mikey really was in Combat while hiding within goofiness.

There’s a common misconception with Leonardo swords. In some adaptations it’s katanas but for others and original comics there ninjato (straight katanas) used by ninja’s.
The Katana is a symbol of leadership and only the samurai and the Emperor were allowed to wear, own, and use them. Kenjitsu is the art associated with the useage of the Katana. Only Musashi is known for using dual blades and was the only undefeated Samurai by the useage of wit and cunning, mirroring Leonardo’s style as a leader from the front. The sai is an ancient weapon from China and is a very “up close and personal” weapon and is as much offensive as defensive. White Crane Kung FU (which made its way into Okinawan Karate) used flowing movements and grappling as their style but can be seen in Hung Gar. Clearly the right weapon for Ralph since he’s got an attitude. The Bo was the pinnacle of martial prowess. It’s utility and versatility takes years of study and practice to perfect. Simple does not equal easy nor does it make it the last choice. A tactician like Donatello would make good use of this multitool. The nunchucku is another ancient Chinese weapon and even Knights of Europe used as the various flails and bludgeons made in various cultures. Unpredictable in its moves it is an extremely useful weapon in the hands of someone who knows how to appropriately attack with them.
