Almost everyone has heard about bacteria. It is not a surprise, since these microorganisms are the most wide spread life form on Earth. Just imagine, there are 10 times more bacterial cells in your organism than your proper cells! However most of people think about microbes as about isolated cells whereas most of bacteria live in colonies known as biofilms. In these structures bacterial cells are embedded into a self-produced matrix which protects them from aggressive environment and facilitates their cooperation. Due to huge impact to all human activity biofilms are important objects to biological researches and, recently, to mathematical simulation. In this talk we will consider main approaches to modeling of biofilms and mathematical description of main features taking place in these structures from production and growth of biomass to formation of wrinkles and morphogenesis.
