I was in a Baptist church, then a none denominational Church which shared the majority of the teachings with the Baptist’s. It was so empty and hollow. I went their hungering for Gods word and came away feeling dejected and still hungry. Father Spyridon has been a huge influence in my walk with God in helping guide me to the truth of Orthodoxy. Personally I haven’t joined the Orthodox Church, but I consider myself orthodox in the sense that I believe what they believe and God has used this church and the teachings of the Saints in particular immensely in my seeking Him.

The Church is real and alive. The lives of the saints and church Fathers and Mother's have this depth. I have a wonderful priest but in my experience most priests are not aware like Fr. Spyrodon. The beauty of the liturgy and having the sacraments make it the best Church I've ever been to. I was a pagan then Jesus Christ saved me. Was Protestant and joined the Orthodox Church several years ago

I still remember the "talks" we'd listen to from the "Elders" growing up as a Jehovah Witness. Hearing Fr Spyridon give his homily's addressing the spirit behind the laws with constant deferral to Christ and The Saints makes me realize how utterly devoid of The Holy Spirit sectarian spirituality is. Akin to a business meeting with a power point presentation vs guidance from a true Elder on transformation of the soul. I know Fr Spyridon receives praise with reluctance but imo he's doing a much needed work for the faithful with this channel. Parish Priest, especially in Blue states, are often held captive by the secular opinions of their flock and sometimes worse their own worldly disposition. As such it can be rare to hear Priest speak freely about what The Church and it's Saints teach for some of us. Many thanks Fr Spyridon and may God keep you.
Hello, I also grew up a Jehovahs Witness, my family left 10 years ago. Praise God we both have found the Orthodox Church. I agree with what you said above. Thankfully I go to a pretty strong parish with a wonderful priest who isn’t afraid to hurt some feelings. I’m so grateful to have the Saints, Angels, and people like Father Spyridon to help guide us and truly care for our souls 🙏

Too often ex JWs reject “the society” for all the wrong reasons and rebel against God becoming secular humanist and or religious relativist. The exclusive claim of being “The Truth” becomes a red flag. This mindset leads most ex JWs to the freedom the world offers which is slavery to sin or the freedom Protestantism offers which often amounts to pride and self will being referred to as a “personal relationship” with Jesus Christ. Few continue the search for the truth and manage to find what the society falsely claims to be, the true Body of Christ. May God keep us both sister and may The Holy Spirit guide more Witnesses to The Orthodox Church.
I think that criticism of JW can apply to Protestantism in general and its focus on systematic theology and apologetics. I'm getting actual practical advice for living out the faith from Orthodox Christian sources, in the spirit of the epistles. When I apply these methods, even though I felt hopeless at the start, it results in real spiritual changes, small but measurable, such that when extrapolated, one can see how apotheosis is a compelling concept. As such I've begun to expand my sources of truth beyond just the Holy Scriptures, to consider the insights of saints of the past who lived holy.

This is very true, for the last 3 years I’ve spent so much time seeking God in prayer, last Christmas I moved house, God allowed me to gain things of the world to test my soul and heart to see which way I would turn. Over the last 6 months I’ve spent a lot of time improving my house and taking pleasure in it, and at the same time trying to seek God, but it’s destroyed me, and undone so much of the progress I made in drawing near to God. I’m still struggling now with this love of the things of this world, but God is slowly bringing me out of it, I just need to be aware that when I draw near to Him and taste His joy and peace I don’t run straight back to the things of the world and using that joy to try and save my life in this world, by taking pleasure in those things.

Fr Spyridon, please make a video on the importance for Christians to attend church regularly. Majority of Christians love seeing Churches, especially very old, beautiful churches, but if the flock won’t use it enough, they will be closed and pulled down, which too many are already.

Worship of material is wrong by logic because it’s all perishable. But you must also acquire wealth to help not only yourself, but others. What good am I to my family if I do not provide for them? What good am I if I cannot help the poor by acquiring wealth to then provide for them too? All within measure of course.
I don't wish money for a lavish life but how can I be free if I do not own a place to stay, a roof above my head; a small piece of land to grow my own food, enough means to be able to raise a family? I will always be a wage slave if I do not earn enough to set me free. Unfortunatey; we are trapped in this system which tries to enslave us in consumerism and other futilities.
There was a time when the Catholic Church had become powerful and rich. I think the circumstances are very much the same right now. I truly wish that they help people who are struggling/starving. Food first then comes the word 🙏 Thanks for sharing the wisdom from the Bible.

I'm about to finish school for engineering, and I worry about how my knowledge might be used. It seems like most lucrative engineering jobs have to do with """defense""", which is really just industrialized killing. And it happens that those sort of jobs pay best. I was wondering what would be an honorable specialization for a mechanical engineer.

Also, what a LOT of people don't realize is that poverty is relative to spending more than you are taking in, to a large degree. This is very true, for the last 3 years I’ve spent so much time seeking God in prayer, last Christmas I moved house, God allowed me to gain things of the world to test my soul and heart to see which way I would turn. Over the last 6 months I’ve spent a lot of time improving my house and taking pleasure in it, and at the same time trying to seek God, but it’s destroyed me, and undone so much of the progress I made in drawing near to God. I’m still struggling now with this love of the things of this world, but God is slowly bringing me out of it, I just need to be aware that when I draw near to Him and taste His joy and peace I don’t run straight back to the things of the world and using that joy to try and save my life in this world, by taking pleasure in those things.

You won't find pews in most Orthodox churches, but the Liturgy and the churches reflect scripture like nothing else, indeed when we 'stand before the Lord' it is scriptural!

Worship of material is wrong by logic because it’s all perishable. But you must also acquire wealth to help not only yourself, but others. What good am I to my family if I do not provide for them? What good am I if I cannot help the poor by acquiring wealth to then provide for them too? All within measure of course.
Then you are not coverting money. What you covert you don't give away.
I don't wish money for a lavish life but how can I be free if I do not own a place to stay, a roof above my head; a small piece of land to grow my own food, enough means to be able to raise a family? I will always be a wage slave if I do not earn enough to set me free.
Unfortunatey; we are trapped in this system which tries to enslave us in consumerism and other futilities.
There was a time when the Catholic Church had become powerful and rich. I think the circumstances are very much the same right now.

I didnt took this verse seriously and noticed Im not really growing in my faith. I was lukewarm. There were 2 disciples who I used to know that were really passionate and committed to God then later on when they allow worldly idols to enter they sadly fell off 😢
There’s also the need to work for an income that allows one to provide for oneself and those one is responsible for.

I have a real question here and looking for advice. I am in my late 20's and all my life I have been poor. I'm about to finish school for engineering, and I worry about how my knowledge might be used. It seems like most lucrative engineering jobs have to do with """defense""", which is really just industrialized killing. And it happens that those sort of jobs pay best. I was wondering what would be an honorable specialization for a mechanical engineer.
Perhaps work for a company that contracts with the government to built or repair national infrastructure.
