I am Japanese. This was the first time I learned that this game had been released overseas, and I was surprised to see that it was highly praised by so many fans.( ﾟдﾟ) I first played this game when I was in high school. The Internet wasn't widespread at the time, so I didn't realize that Japanese anime, games, and culture had spread so far around the world.
Tenchu was the highlight of my childhood. I was obsessed with the storyline, the characters, the brutal world of kill or be killed. It brought my childhood fantasy of being a ninja to life. I was in love with Ayame 😍 P.S. I will forever be thankful to the Japanese for their ancient culture 🙏
@@rickyredfield5228 thats not what happened, sony made a deal with this dev for 3 exclusive games and sekiro was part of those games the guy behind tenchu expressed that he wanted it to come back and would love to see it come on the PS5, but who knows if it will
I find that the more grounded in reality Tenchu games (Fatal Shadows and Birth of the Stealth Assassins) featured better stories, and since this one was on PS2 with a better gameplay engine, then it wins out for you.
Man it's pretty sad that this franchise has been forgotten, this is precisely the kind of games that really need a Next Gen sequel or a remake, tenchu games are really very good, even today
This and Wrath of Heaven/return in the darkness I adore these pieces of art from the music, level designs, characters, visuals, gameplay, story telling God please we need a Tenchu
I love Fatal Shadows, mostly because the cool Opening Song, which showcases the cool epic finishers, if you pull correctly you get a X Ray kills, I think this was before Mortal Kombat implemented those. I think Hanzo Hattori of Samurai Showdown has that in his fatality.
Now this brings back memories. Back in 2008 (PS2 was still a relatively rare and expensive gaming platform over my place), I used to go to my friend's place to play games with his PS2. Tenchu was the first game that I played as far as the entire Ninja game genre goes, and this was the game that got me into the other Ninja related games like Shinobi, Red Ninja, Aragami (Aragami 1 was legitely good), and for SOME reason, I never found a functional copy of Wrath of Heaven in the local markets. This game had a certain charm that some of the more popular games of the Ninja Game Genre (Sorry Ninja Gaiden) don't have. New Devs and AAA studios should work on making good games like this.
@@Eliburgo like I said, the AAA studios and all new and upcoming developers should make more of these. Even though I do love my fair share dose of Dark Souls and Elden ring to go with it
@@deathmachineable Sekiro and Rise of the Ronin and Ghost of Tsushima( of you go ninja skill tree) Sekiro even has the grappling hook mechanic and the stealth kills but I hear ya would love to see Shinibido 3 on ps5
@@Eliburgo As much as I like Sekiro and Ghost of Tsushima (don't get me wrong, they're both legitely good like Aragami), to me they felt more like a souls game with some stealth mechanisms more than a full on dedicated stealth type game like tenchu. As for Shinobido, thanks for the info, I'll check this series out.
@deathmachineable oh the rabbit🐇 hole 🕳 😆 Tenchu was originally created by acquire then around the third game Fromsoftware started making it because Activision bought the rights so Acquire made a spiritual successor in the Shinibido series and Fromsoftware made Sekiro becuase they don't want to copy Acquire and since Activision isn't really a Japanese developer the future of Tenchu is kinda non existent. But definitely check out Shinibido last one was on the Vita.
Great job I always loved any tenchu game I haven't beat this one before my disc was scratched tobad but love the game and it's in full HD this looks completely cool I wish all the PS2 games was in HD like this great job mane🍻
The music 😍😍😍 They feel out of place , it creates such a chill vibe and some sort of detachment from the action (if you vibe with it) . I can understand that some people don't like it.
Ah, Tenchu! My classic PS2 ninja stealth simulator game, that really really captured the design, look and feel of various Chiba Shinichi ninja TV series: Yagyuu Conspiracy, Shadow Warriors. The SFX is exactly like on TV: the jumps, the shuriken throws, the blades, the kills. The music was also was also very traditional yet modern, not over the top. It looks great upscaled HD. I wish PS store would re-release it for their library, because I didn’t keep a hard copy. Or they’d publish a new version in the same style. They did such a bang up job with Ghost of Tsushima. Bring back the Shinobi 🥷
Tenchu’s one of my favorite game! Wish they make new ones! I just started playing Sekiro last week and it reminds me so much of Tenchu, though Sekiro is like 100x harder 😩🤣
Loved this series. Also another great stealth game, the mark of kri. Think I’m gonna try modding this and replay it again. Still playing the RE 3 nemesis HD mod, it looks incredible!

I want to cry when you don't finish Ayame's combo during boss battles or a faster enemy dispatch (The Tatsukichi battle is brutal 🥲). Idk if her finisher kick is unlockable. Been a while ever since I played this game. Thanks for taking me back to memory lane. Edit: apparently, it is locked behind scrolls 😂
When you fought that old woman before Lord jyouzu, if you run at her and simply hit O or B, basically just do a grab, you'll slide past her and do a classic ninja neck chop instantly downing her. Then Lord jyouzu will kill her instead in a cutscene. It's one of those secret things from the old PS2 days.
Due to copyright issues, the sequel is far away, otherwise this would be the work that enlightened many people to Japanese ninja assassination games. It is worth mentioning that the music in the series is also very excellent.
If you stand right on the edge of stealth kill zone indicated by flashing yellow light above the health bar. You’ll execute critical stealth with special animation and will receive bonus scroll.
Before assassin's Creed there was tenchu.... too bad they haven't made a new one in years....they should have been all over Japan by now...if it was open world and plenty of things to do and enemies to kill... I'd love it more than I love it now....but this is my 🎮 ❤❤❤
Tenchu Z... I still am angry at MS for stopping us access the XB360 as I essentially platinumed the game and can't access my save now but Tenchu I love to this day; AC cannot touch it for the feel of being a true assassin
I miss this game. 😁 There is actually a special takedown with the geisha. If you parry her atack you just dodge her attack and do a judo chop to the back of her neck instantly knocki g her out 😁👍
This is my favourite in terms of atmosphere and I like Rin's moveset but the camera and controls are awful at times. Tenchu Z was much better from a mechanics standpoint but didn't have the soul this one had, I still played the hell out of it. A game halfway between the two would have been good.
I hate that you have to pick up the damn scrolls, the game knows already that you made a perfect or regular stealth kill, picking up a scroll won't change that, and yeah I know you need scrolls to upgrade but like I said, forcing the player to pick scrolls is stupid.

Not sure why I got so into this tenchu over the rest, my nostalgia is especially warm for this game.

This tenchu has the smoothest and swiftest movements with cooler stealth animations compared to previous installments.

Unfortunately, the stealth genre as a whole seemed to have died in the 7th gen. Ever since we rarely get games with stealth as the main goal.
Nowadays, every game publisher concentrated on story not only graphic and gamplay hard to complete.
Look up Red Ninja for the PS2 then.

iirc Sekiro was meant to be the next installment of Tenchu but it was scrapped. It ended up being Tenchu's successor

my tip; never take a full loadout as if there are items needed to progress you cannot pick them up and using items can cost you points

Yeah, people don't realize but From Software has been awesome with things like Tenchu, Armored Core, and Kings Field way before Souls.

Because I loved this franchise so much, IMO, by principal the game should be hard from the get go.

Resident Evil 4 got a definitive edition. Why can't Tenchu? I'd love to see the well defined textures and better lighting.
Rin's ninja armor always seemed kind of ridiculous to me. It doesn't seem much like armor to me, Ayame's armor IS armor.
