    Great explore as usual Paul. This home is very similar to ours, and not in really in much worse shape than when we started to renovate it 20 years ago. The Sunshine implement in the yard is a binder, used to produced sheaved hay. The Holden ute is an EK, produced in 1961/62. Very restorable in that condition, l bet you'll have a lot of requests asking where it is! Lots of header parts in the house, and a lot of tyres that are probably a few hard to find sizes! Keep safe and well, look forward to the next video. 🙂

    The Holden Ute is a 61- 62 EK, the quarter glass , has the more square corners, the older models had triangle shaped glass, also the side trim on side at front, and the headlights trim, Enjoyed episode Cheers Bevan 🤠❤️🦘🦘🇦🇺

    That old Holden ute needs saving before the roof comes down, what's left of it is in excellent condition, it's a pity most old farmers won't let them go they just let em rot, great video well done

    Great old home Paul
    Those old door were ceder befor ceder wood was scarce in the late 1800s.
    I used to explore old houses as a kid with my brothers in melbourne when the were pulling them down . I was forever onward totally interested in old doors hard ware windows etc.
    I still visit demolition yards as i did when we renovated an old farm house and got it perfect.
    These days its hard to get old sash windows and 4 panel ceder doors.
    I love your explorations.

    Hi, love your explores mate👍 the Holden Ute is an FB or EK most likely FB. Think the EK had a bigger air vent grill between windscreen & bonnet? The bonnet mentioned in the tractor tyre room looked to be off a FJ
    or 48 215 FX Holden. Thought I saw the Ute bonnet over behind the ute against a wall?? Keep up the good work. Cheers😊

  • @irenewatts2874
    @irenewatts2874 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hi Paul
    This was a cool explore. That old Holden pickup truck was a treat. They seem to load
    this house up with old junk. They used it as a dumping ground. WOW it hasn’t been lived
    in since the 70’s that’s 50 some years. It looked to me like that plow said SUNSHINE.
    It must have been a nice little home before the pigeons claimed it. I always love the
    tinted glass above and around the door. Looks like who ever owned this home packed
    up and never came back. All these places you explore Paul are always out in places all
    by themselves. I guess people like to live on remote farms away from everyone.
    Nice work Paul. You can make an abandon house sound like a palace. So stay safe and
    well out there and we will see you in the next one. Cheers!👍🙀

      @urbexindigo5164  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Irene. Yes may have not been lived in even from the 60`s. Yes in comparison to rural Victoria there is far more remote distances between old farms and far drier land. South Australia definitely has the great Aussie outback!!! :-)

      FYI ... wikipedia ... Having established an agricultural implement works in Ballarat he moved his factory and many of his employees to Braybrook Junction, in 1906, where he had earlier purchased the Braybrook Implement Works (1904). He named the new enterprise the Sunshine Harvester Works after his Sunshine Harvester, which was one of his major products.

The pigeons always ruin these awesome places, and yes I have seen the clamshell pressed metal ceiling in some of the old places I have visited recently, must be a common design. The Sunshine binder was built in Sunshine Victoria by H.V.McKay. My father worked there as an apprentice fitter and Turner. One of his jobs was to work on farm machine bought in from areas where there had been bush fires. He had to take them apart then put them back together in working order then send them back to the country. H.V.MCKAY became Massey Ferguson. Good Scottish name.

    The sizzagy shark fin things in the first room near the tyres are Harvester walkers they walk the straw out of the machine the second rooms "plows" are auger screws flightings out of a harvest comb. The 3rd room with truck tyres has the too fan and screen cover for a sunshine Harvester number 2 I'd guess the number could also be a number 7 Harvester parts. The hay in the very first windows you looked in would be all from the birds making nests . Love the old houses it's a pity they don't ever get rented out before they go bad. Normally one family sells the land and the neighbours buy the land and already have a established house so the newly purchased home stays empty unfortunately in my experience.

  • @lavenderfields929

    The front door is so elegant along with lovely woodwork and trims. That home was built with a lot of care. But that blue truck! The shape of it is so beautiful and draws attention to the seriously curved glass windshields front and back. The original paint would glow with a proper professional clean up. Curved auto glass puts it after 1934. It must have been well loved to still be sitting protected inside a stone structure. So happy you found it. Gravity will take it down soon as the walls are so compromised. Thank you! (I hope you keep up your tetanus shots).

    The ute looks like and FC Holden ute. When I was the teacher at Hamond SA in 1967 I drove the kids to school in an FC like this. It had no windscreen wipers or interior door handles that worked. I think the Hammond school house exists. It was used for the opening scene of the Peter Weir film Last Wave. The Art Director on the film Neil Angwin was a friend of mine. He asked me where they could find a school house from the "back of Fink". Hammond school closed in 1968. I was the last teacher

    A good find; seems a house that was well built for its day. Sad it's been let go but is another renovators dream, lol. The brick work I would think is salvageable still. Being in Sth Australia, obviously in the middle of knowhere land though, harsh country, they sure did it tough. I imagine if someone had the inclination and passion to reclaim, it could be a beautiful re-established farm and a beautiful home after lot's of work and rebuilding after being gutted to a shell. I think you can buy now that ceiling tin, it's now very expensive.

    • @urbexindigo5164
      @urbexindigo5164  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi dcbeez5956 :-) Yes these are very remote so a keen restorer would have to commit to the remoteness and then hope someone would buy if they did not want to stay I guess. These old homes get absorbed in to larger properties and just sit gathering things slowly falling down. It would be fantastic to see an influx of keen people moving away from ridiculous prices in the city to restore these oldies. :-)

    @servicedogkyzanna1761 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hi, Paul- 1st, thank you for another great explore!!= I loved this entire property- I would love to get the remaining tin ceiling down and preserve them. The car guys would love to get that truck and get to work on that. The doors always have me chomping at the bit in all of these properties- so many possibilities. There is a ton of wood here that appears good, still, and could be repurposed in any number of ways. That baby car inside would be good in someone's museum. The mantle is something someone is dying to get. All of the farm equipment, and the wagons, the horse trailer are things someone would pay for at auction, even that bale of hay- we use round bales now, and I'm sure whatever mold is long past. So much more. I see it in all of these properties- even the field stone, could be repurposed into rock walls- everyone is dying to bring back the nostalgia of the past, and DIY is all the rage right now- I have a stone wall we built running along one side of our yard- it is so much harder than people think. Those stone could be sold to benefit that farmer in weight units, as could all of it. I am always shocked that these farms leave assets to rot, when they could help themselves quite a bit. If THIS farmer wanted to appraise the assets just from this house, I'd be willing to bet, with a little creativity, they would get several hundred thousand dollars out of just what is on this property, and you are their man, Paul- Your Video and Photos would sell as well, and you could document everything for them, and be their liaison and charge an agent and listing fee, of course.
    Then, when this went well, as it would, you could do this for every property you went to, so instead of letting things rot, you helped property owners make a bunch more money, and yourself as well, you wrote those books I want you to write, you could start a cable channel on how to do all of this- Kind of like the people who do the "Flip It" things, only your wouldn't be stupid? THEN, you might have someone have an antique store with ovens, sewing machines furniture, and the like- there are just so many ways to go. See- I am all for you getting wealthy and being able to do anything you want to do!!
    THEN, I could fly down there and visit, see all the wildlife, visit NZ, meet you, and you could show me all of these wonderful places, and I could meet your fantastic cat.
    Oh, maybe you would could start a cat rescue as well- one without cobwebs, or birds that scream at you 🙂-SDK

      @@urbexindigo5164 absolutely, thats why i didnt say where i thought it was. the area i live in is mostly old farms that date back almost to settlers times. so many really historic building here. i used to live in one of the oldest in the area myself. older than the town nearby in fact. i used to live in the station house that was built by a german family that settled here and owned a large part of the region that has now broken up into a couple of suburbs

    It's a long slow death for these homes. I wonder if it will outlive its last occupant. Probably. It's amazing how long these buildings last with no " proper" foundations. Modern houses can't hold a candle to these lovelies

    Yeh, no running gear but the body seems in reasonable condition. One would have to do a property search of the farm to find the current owner to submit an offer. I'm too old for doing things like that now. Bit like the whole house actually. As with the house, there are lots wrong with me now too! lol

    Great video, the occupants of these houses on the land were called "Cockies," they were mixed wheat and sheep farmers whence the sheep would feed on the grain stubble after the harvest .. to many less well informed city slickers they were the archtype "whingeing farmers," problem is they did "whinge" however they had very good reasons.
    Ok once you had purchased the tractor, the seeder, the baler and the header there was virtually nothing left to live on, you had status as a "grazier" and as a man on the land but you lived in poverty .. drought drove many of them off then in the 1980's the price of fuel finished off many of the survivors.
    There's plenty of politics mixed up with it all, they were impervious to advice that land clearing would affect rainfall and just went ahead ..

    • @DebNewton-kh4cv
      @DebNewton-kh4cv ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree…lots of ifs buts & maybes when you are farming…weather is everything! I remember in the 60’s & 70’s the farmers were generally doing pretty well. Fuel prices were low so the cost to produce was low. Everything was relative too. Decent seasons & good crops meant at the end of harvest they often bought a new Mercedes, a new tweed jacket & took the family on a decent holiday!
      Then everything changed…yes, politics to some extent got in the way & prices of necessary items for working the farm started to increase beyond the reach of a lot of farmers. A sad reality…

      Awesome comments mate :-) Yep I grew up in a small rural town in Victoria and all the rain and sheep farmers were referred to as Cockie`s and yes always whinging :-) But they were very well respected and needed also. Not as dry in Victoria so still many farms survive although combined with smaller ones that did not. I guess these SA farms were also absorbed in to larger properties when the families either had to leave or no other generations wanted or were available to continue. Cheers for the great info Martin and for watching :-)

    Great find, handsome house! Great pity these places can't be restored and brought to life again - their bones must still be pretty good in most cases. As to your term 'vintage' car describing the Holden ute it's not quite correct if one is being pedantic in describing old cars. There are five terms to describe old cars: 1) Veteran: manufactured prior to 1918. 2) Vintage: manufactured between 1919 and 1930. 3) Post Vintage: manufactured between 1931 and 1949. 4) Classic: manufactured between 1950 and 1969. 5) Modern Classic: manufactured between 1970 and 1989. So the Holden ute is correctly known as a CLASSIC. Cheers

    So why do these places literally fall down? why do they crack and move when they must be a long way from any seismic activity.

    • @richf5967
      @richf5967 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cracks can be caused by a number of things including clay soils that expand and contract with moisture - especially when it’s dry
      Foundations settle
      No allowance for movement in the construction- bricks actually grow a little over time so you need expansion joints
      So when a house is as old as this one I’d say it is probably a combination of things
      The old girl just needs a little love

      @@Inverted.surfer Hey Broderick, I have not seen one in years here in Victoria. I had an EK wagon in 1975, then an EK sedan for 3 years after that so I am pretty familiar with them. It is very hard to differentiate between them, really the only way to tell them apart is to check the windscreen wipers, the FB wipers are vacuum operated whereas the EK has electrically operated wipers (that is the main difference). Cheers.
