ITS THE SPACE WOLVES. Fun Krak fact my first ever kit other than the starter kit i split with a friend was the Space Wolves start collecting, so theyll always have a soft spot to me. Plus theyre legitimately a cool faction that I feel gets a bad rap. Gonna make a more in depth character video and unit video in the future so Wolf fans stay tuned!

@@tyrant-den884 silly guy. Those aren’t wolves, they’re THUNDERwolves
@KrakDuk which we have to assume doesn't have the word "wolf" in it in High Gothic because Space Wolves aren't idiots.
@@tyrant-den884 The other way around. Wolf' is not a term that means anything in Fenrisian. It's why they call themselves Vilka Fenrika and get upset whenever anyone use the word 'wolf. High Gothic canonically sounds like Enrish to them it's hilarious.
Language and mistranslation was a huge plotpoint for my favourite 30K novel, Burning of Prospero. There is also no written word on Fenris so translation between High Gothic and Fenrisian is rare, plus nobody ever goes to Fenris because it's a death world filled with monsters, vikings, and definitely-not-wolves. I'm a linguist and I love these details.
PancreasNoWork would be very upset with that title if Tzeentch didn’t take away his ability to read after his Thousand Sons video

Finally, Wolves lore that isn't dripping with some kind of disgust.
A point to note about 30K, during Heresy, Russ almost killed Horus himself, during the battle of Trisolian. This was one the last major fight the Legion put up during the Heresy, and although they lost the battle it had huge implications. Horus was out of commission for quiet a while, and he lost the respect of many traitor primarchs, causing the internal coup attempted by Lorgar.
This had a significant impact on the final Siege that was laid on Terra, hence the wolves did have a major impact on how the Heresy turned out.
Yeah, everyone also thought that Horus was just controlled by Chaos and that he would have to be freed by it and everything would be good, which Leman literally achieved. However noone could knew that the uncorrupted Horus also hated the Emperor and the Imperium, that was a shocker
All Erebus had to do is kill Loken on Isstvan 3 to ensure Horus wins the Duel and the Heresy
Was it that hard Erebus? You had the Knife!
@@christiandauz3742 If he didn't suck he wouldn't be Erebus ahahaha
Its worth noting they're such chill homies during the heresy the pack sent to watch over Guilliman just straight up told him they were there to kill him if hes a traitor, and like the same night he was drinking Mjod with them and chilling all night so he had a hangover when the lion showed up.
They also fought Kurze to defend Guillimom because they knew she was the most badass woman in the setting having survived raising a primarch
I don’t think Magnus would agree with you about the Space Wolves not doing much during the Heresy

Something to note about the Burning of Prospero: Russ *did* try to avoid destroying the planet and the Thousand Sons as a whole, despite having every reason to believe that the Emperor had ordered him to do so.
The book ‘The Burning of Prospero’ is basically the Space Wolf side of events during the book ‘A Thousand Sons.’ In it, Russ is told by Horus (who he does not know is a traitor) that the Emperor had changed his orders to arrest Magnus to instead kill him as well as his legion and Prospero as a whole.
Had it been anyone else who told him this, Russ would be very skeptical. However Horus was basically Big E’s right hand man. His Warmaster, his most favored son, trusted with the running of the Crusade. So Russ had no reason at this stage to think the orders were not legitimate. And despite that when his fleet arrived in orbit over Prospero Russ did try to contact Magnus and convince him to come quietly to avoid bloodshed. He was willing to defy what he had every right to believe was a genuine order from his father to avoid destroying another legion, and only carried out the attack when Magnus failed to answer his hails.
Recent lore also mentioned that Malcador and Constantine Valdor pushed Russ to be a lot more heavy-handed than the Emperor had previously ordered, so when the second, third, and fourth in command of the Imperium tell you that the Emperor wants you to f*ck up Magnus, you f*ck up Magnus.
@@Kevc00 Which is yet another retcon on the whole Prospero.
I really hate that planet. They keep on passing the hot potato of blame and all it does is burn everyone's hand with guilt.
I'd prefer it if they just kept it simple as everyone just jumped the gun and be done with it instead of "everyone wanted to be reasonable, but an entire planet got glassed tee hee"
Let Magnus be wrong for using psychic powers.
Let Russ be wrong for being blood thirsty
We really don't need this constant update on one of the worst written and ruined rivalries in the lore.
I thought that Horus didn't actually change the order, more like he argued that taking Magnus back alive was a waste of time and that Russ should just kill him, regardless of what the Emperor wanted. Since Russ and Magnus already had a bone to pick with each other, it wasn't difficult.
@@virgiljianu7166 who tf know at this point. It's been changed like 5 times in the last decade.

‘Valdor knew about the daemon on Prospero, and he knew what it meant. Who gave us the orders? Who told us not to sanction Magnus, but to lay waste to his world?’
The blue eyes never faltered. ‘It came from the Allfather.’
‘You know it did not.’
‘We did what was asked.’
‘We were deceived.’
‘We followed the order!’ Russ roared, taking a single step towards him. The twin wolves rose to their haunches, and the chamber suddenly seemed thick with the scent of kill-urge.

Space Wolves are tied with Salamanders for my favorite. I love the wolf and viking aesthetic, their laid back respect for others, and their ability to actually have fun
Lukas the trickster needs a more prominent role in the lore.
it's GW's fault they leaned in too hard on the wolf stuff instead of the viking.
@@islapcrabs ya those are some of my favorite loyalist chapters. I usually just really like chapters that go out of their way to help humans (my guard simp is showing)
Nailed it, top 2 without question 👌👌
I like the space wolves for the organization. Newbies are scouts. Hotheaded newbies are assault. Old dudes that know a thing or two are long range because they know a thing or two. The rest of it is meh. I think the Viking/wolf thing is over the top (ironic right) so I’d probably play a successor chapter that follows the organization without being furries.
Good thing you have Factor sponsor so you dont have to eat Corpse starch
I really like the wolves. But they got done dirty. From Space Vikings to Wolf Wolf wolf wolf to Ultramarines but Skyblue.
@@WarsmithThanatos ya I’m hoping when they inevitably get updated they keep their unique units. The hounds of morkai do not inspire confidence, really cool lore but a horribly uninspired kit. That’s kinda why I want to start a wolves army soon, I’m afraid I won’t like the new models much. But who knows, they did a good job with the Templars so I’m hoping the wolves get a similar treatment
@@KrakDuk there are some spicy rumours circulating around the refresh of the space wolves, and it seems that Space wolves will get to keep their unique units (blood claws, grey hunters, long fangs, wolf guard... the blood claws and grey hunters atleast seems to stay and will have gained wolves (fenrisian wolves, not thunderwolves) into the units), it's unclear on if the thunderwolf cavalry gets to stay or if it'll go to legends (i hope they stay as they've been really popular as of late), there is rumours about a three man + three wolves unit that sounds like the thunderwolf cavalry replacement. the rumours indicate the return of the wolf priest. but that's just rumours, take it with a mountain of salt until confirmed.
it safe to say that Logan (losing the sleigh in favour of a on-foot model surrounded by wolves according to the rumours), Arjac and Njal along with the wolfguard terminators will get refreshed.
the space wolves refresh might happen this year, towards the latter half of the year.
the Hounds of Morkai kit do not live up to the limited lore there is about them seeing as that kit is half a reiver kit + the primaris upgrade sprue for space wolves, that's literally the lamest move they could have done.
it's not a matter of if but WHEN the space wolves are refreshed, at absolutely best space wolves gets the black templars level of treatment (or possibly even better than that), realistically space wolves might get the Dark angels treatment. but for the love of the allfather (the emperor), space wolves do not want the Blood angels treatment.
I always felt Russ was meant to be as much a pyschic powerhouse as Magnus, but growing on a world where physical might was prized and education limited, he never really learned how to use it beyond subconscious effects and resistances.
He buffs himself to power slam krakjøns

Hi stimm
The Imperium should totally start a holiday where the Chapter Master of the Space Wolves goes around on his Wolf Sleigh to Imperium Worlds and gives gifts to all the good, devout boys and girls. Space wolves have my favorite color. Powder blue on power armor is beautiful.
Same! I also love the yellow and red accents. These sub chapter patterns really make them look unique.
Minor nitpick, but there's 2 types of Wulfen: Those who fail the trials in becoming a Space Marine, and those who lose their battle to the Curse after becoming one. The pre-Marine ones stalk the wilds of Fenris, but the post-Marine ones basically get thrown at the enemies of the empire. It sometimes happens to Dreadnaughts, too. There's one who nobody knows their original name, it's just a Wulfen in a dreadnaught who is called Murderfang. There's 3 battle brothers who all initiated together, all got grievously wounded and interred in a dreadnaught, and over their careers all fell to the curse inside the dread; they are collectively called "The Brothers Berserk" and have never lost when all 3 are on the field at the same time. Wulfen dreadnaughts are also notable because they have been seen to run on all 4 limbs at their enemies. They're basically the coolest unit.
My young friend, thank you for these videos. I'm at the ripe old age of 26 and have just barely began to learn to love the craft of assembling and painting miniatures, but before all of this, I listened to lore videos for several months, your videos being part of the core content.

The Space Wovles are often written poorly. But not in the novel "With Scars". A good discription of their situation after Prospero.
Space Wolves have always been my favourite faction in 40k. Something just clicked when Titus said "Like the cold grin of a Space Wolf" the first time I played the first Space Marine game. They've been in a weird position ever since the Primaris came out, so I hope they can regain some of their glory and rich culture when the rework comes out. The 30k characters are some of the coolest Space Marine models I've seen GW make, so I hope some of those cool designs make it into the new models too.
The Ragnar series of books is really good. The Battle of the Fang is also a good book. Probably favorite part is Bjorn killing Ksons troops and is just inner monologuing and being pissed Russ left him behind.
When I see a KrakDuck video, I see a legacy of one of the best 40k universe content creators
One thing about Leman Russ in the Heresy is that he actually *grows* as a person, unlike his brothers.
Noooo but but but he had one moment in this super mega genocidal worst than ww2 Germans empire where he was slightly hypocritical over something legitimately super dangerous and very unknown to everyone including the emperor once, clearly that means he is a bad character totally ok totally
@@rakisuzuki-burke4148 ya I like how he starts as an asshole and is quite introspective throughout. I need to read all the heresy books to see the full extent of his arc. Plus everyone clowns on him for never truly winning a primarch duel, but I think his soft spot for his bothers is a fascinating aspect of his character. As much as he acts like a jerk he does seem to care about his bros
The only thing that may grow is the Emperor’s glory.
He Really only lost a fight to Angron

My favorite legion other than the raven guard, they have everything, they got pranksters, Santa, big backs, feasts, they love mortals to the point they are willing to beat up Grey knights, what's not to love about one of the only legion/chapter with pets.
The fact that they can beat up grey knights makes me not like them.
@agentc7020 personally I loved it, it was about time someone got them of their inquisitional high horse and show them mortals who fought tooth nail against angron of all people, deserve not to be whipped out because they saw angron and a bunch of Grey space marines
The goddamn wyrd sorcerer betraying Ahriman single handedly cemented an forever hatred in my heart for space wolves.
I also hate how Russ is over critical about literally everyone and just goes "Hours said Magnus bad and should be dead even though I was SPECIFICALLY told to bring Magnus back alive... Must be true, lemme turn an entire legion traitor while employing literally the same methods as the thousands sons."
I might be unjustly hating them but god damn the only space wolves I can stand are the ones who stood up against the grey knights and the ones who were keeping watch over the primarchs loyalty.
@PuddingXXL The rune priest who betrayed ahriman is an A-hole but as for leman russ being critical of everyone is part of his job as the emperor's executioner, what do you expect from someone who's job is to beat his brothers, he must assess their strengths and weaknesses. I believe that's why he's so critical of others
@@Book_worm.75 I like that aspect of the months of shame, what I dislike is how Grimmnar just jobs grey knights grandmasters like nobody's bussiness, maybe if the fights were better written I would like the months of shame more but since they're not it just feels like space wolf fanservice you know?

My favorite part about Space Wolf lore is that it's implied by the Emperor that the reason the planet is so Norse-coded is most likely because the planet was intentionally designed that way as a social experiment before the Dark Age(or even just for fun), and after losing contact with Earth they kind of had no choice but to run with it in order to survive.
‘Their highest art is the forging of steel,’ admitted the Emperor. ‘Their world has regressed to a pre-technological state, and if you saw it you would not be surprised why. It is a beautiful, savage place of ice, fire and monsters. A charming experiment in reconstructed mythologies.’
‘What do you mean?’
‘Fenris is a relic from the days before Old Night.’
Rarely did the Emperor refer to the past, even so obliquely as that.
~ Wolfsbane
Culturally, just as with the beasts of Fenris, there was an undoubted stain of deliberate adaption from certain cultural patterns of Ancient Terra, which along with their dialects, clear derivations of Terran Gothic, points to the original population of Fenris being direct colonists from Old Terra itself, placed there by some cohesive effort at some time within the Dark Age of Technology. But again more questions are begged. Why would a population of men and women clearly large enough and well-selected to remain genetically viable over the long term be set down with such a vast coterie of monsters on a world of such murderously intemperate nature? The only answer now perhaps lies in the fact that in certain obscure and ill-provenance star charts of Dark Age of Technology origin, there lies Fenris marked under the name 'Fenryr Perdita'; a term in the ancient form some have translated simply as 'Fenris/forbidden' and others as the 'Prison of Wolves'. There have also been some who have wondered that Fenris was so swiftly rediscovered by the Great Crusade and seen meaning in this, and they may be right. But what the Emperor knows of Fenris' lost history and indeed perhaps its purpose, He has shared with nought, save perhaps its king.
~ Inferno
Not to mention they threw hands with the grey knights and inquisitors when protecting people from an extermination after a warp demon invasion they even killed the chapter master of they grey knights

Orks have reality warping mind powers
Krieg only use shovels in melee
Cadians are just meat shields
Black Templars are "zealot assholes who don't care about human life" and "have no Primaris in their ranks and are at war with the Custodes"

15:08- I thought that got retconned, and it's just psychoindoctrination killing most of their libidos? Lukas seems to talk about having them afterwards, which would support that, and indicate that either some chapters aren't giving them the same Clockwork Orange treatment (which could also mean that if sterilization is still canon that some aren't doing that either), or it's possible to just resist it like how some lose their memories of the time they were human, and some don't.
I know one of the Custodes codex talks about it, but there's problems with that on even more levels: Why should a Custodes codex be being used to set what would be core lore on space marines? Is the guy/team that wrote the codex, or at least that part, normally any good? Even if you want to say that the Emperor would sterilize the Astartes, why would he do the same to the men that he trusted more, valued more, and eventually wanted to eventually make all of humanity more like when sterilizing them would literally work against that very idea? Finally: when was the codex written, because if it's older then there's a possibility it got retconned?
It all just sounds like the same type of incompetent and hateful writers that wrote Angron's story.

@@mementomori771 Fenris is kind of near the eye of terror which was where the core of the Aeldari empire was before the fall. So maybe there is room to develop that line of thought.
Love the space wolves, been playing them since mid 5th edition. Every model feels like it's own character
4:05 this is false. It was Alpharius who was the first to be discovered and raised in secrecy by the emperor on Terra
Eh Alpharius is an unreliable narrator "This is a lie", every other character who would know of Alpharius and his origin (The Emperor, Malcador and Valdor) all call Horus the first found in their internal thoughts or in private conversations.
Dude, the Ragnar books were my first 40k books...love that shit! Plus Bjork (?) The fell handed...absolute boss...love the horus heresy book when the one dude keeps calling him Bear....thousand sons translation error
@@jaredunderwood978 those were some of my first as well! The gates of morkai is such a great scene and I thought it did well to tease the thrests of the universe as well as spark intrest in other factions. Ragnar is awesome
I love the fact that you’re starting to get a lot more sponsors, It’s really cool, keep going my dude
Greatest blooper ever 2:07 😂😂😂
Wonder if anyone would do that for the emperor lmao😂
2:13 holy shit dude my chest hurts from laughing my ass off after hearing that and then replaying the audio of it legit 4 times in a row 😂😂😂
Thank you so much for leaving that one in, I’ve had the worst Christmas Eve ever today/tonight and it made everything ok again. ❤
"fruity wolves" for the III legion is funny af
Really love them for their unique looks and viking werewolf theme. I mean, they are the ONLY loyalist space marine faction in the setting to my knowledge with fully unique weapon systems in helfrost weapons that arent just one off but instead spread through a good chunk of the army
not a fan of wulfen models at all though... they look like half-naked werewolves with anything above the waist not done turning while the rest already did. Love the thunderwolf cavalry however, it fits them well as a chaptert hat doesnt follow the rules (what other marine chapter uses CAVALRY?) while at the same time selling big time just how nasty the fauna of their homeworld is that some is nasty enough to be mounts for scifi supersoldiers.
also its interesting to point out that the more experienced the space wolf is, the more distance he puts between himself and battle... and thats purely because their newbies are so eager to prove themselves worthy of becoming legends (on top of the agression) that they will literally throw themselves at the enemy anyway while their veterans.. for them its already done, they dont care so much about pulling off some crazy deed anymore. They are older, wiser, calmer in the heat of battle, and thus much better to be trusted with the heavy guns
also, the space wolves should have DEFINITELY rejected the primaris. They already have a hard time with the deathwatch, seeing being sent here as a punishment and those that come back from it are given weird looks afetr they were out of their planet's culture for so long, no way they would accept in their ranks people that werent even born on Fenris to begin with.
I don't understand the hate for Space Wolves, granted I'm a newbie to the Warhammer verse. But so far this is my favorite chapter, along with the Black Templars.
People don't like them because they're cooler than their favorite chapter
People are biased to a point it’s legitimately pathetic. When it comes to writing the space wolves unfortunately do not get the best writers doing anything with miss understood characters and culture to actively making space wolves be the butt of the joke or the book and instead of being normal thinking “man this one guy sucks or this book didn’t write them well” they just baby rage over the whole faction. Not to mention got brainless worms who don’t understand basics of what furry is, so if it has any animal motifs, themes, names whatever they just rage and call them furries even tho these have culture significance in real work with pelts, being the literal clothes we wear, to decorations of great kills, shaped of helmets and they are literally werewolves, not only werewolves but they are not even mythological or Hollywood ones that are just giant buff wolf man no they are literally just still people mutated with legs and hands semi mutated so even the easiest and only point doesn’t work, but it’s too much to comprehend for some people too stupid to get the point
Three reasons, and I am trying to be as unbiased as possible here:
1. Hypocrisy during the Horus Heresy.
2. The Months of Shame. Some people began to love the Wolves here due to them bodying the GK, but to others, it cemented their dislike.
3. Their fans are tied with the Salamanders and Lamenters fans as being the loudest in proclaiming that their Chapter is the best due to how different their culture is to the extremely militant norm of Space Marines.
The rules seem to bend for them, is a big gripe. Though I agree there is some excessive salt. And the rule is true for space marines in general. Space wolves just get a bit more than others.
My main issue is that, despite the chaptermaster wielding a warp-empowered and definitely daemonic axe (which is dumb in and of itself), it * wasn't * used to decapitate Ghazkull Thraka.
It was that blackmane git who did that. Inexcusable. Da Prophet should have been krumped by the biggest beakie available or bale-eye.
@@lawaern3474 Bale eye or bust
I suggest you check out the character known as Minka lesk. She's a survivor of the fall of cadia and the last known Whiteshield.
Afte all I know how much you love the cadians.
GLORY TO THE VALKA FENRYKA!!!
A-HU!
The Salamanders and Space wolves are two of my favorite chapters Logan Grimnar is my favorite chapter master along with Tu'shan.
The most based video about Space Wolves.
Happy holidays you got me into war hammer 40,000 (:
Here For the Warhammer Lore!!!
Merry Christmas Krakduk, can you do a video in the future on the death guard, world eaters or any traitor legion?
Thank you! A Merry Christmas to you as well! And yes! I plan to cover all the main factions eventually and then branch into the more obscure ones after the core dudes are covered
12:10- THANK YOU! Christ, if I wound up hearing another guy go off on them hating all psykers and allowing their own because they have no principles (like Astartes Anonymous) I was gonna scream.
It is rich for SW to say that their psychics are different and that they're resistant to the warp when a 100% of their chapter turn into some degree of wolfkin
@@Yurt_enthusiast7 Thanks for letting me know you didn't pay any attention to the lor! Goodbye, and have a good day!
Hey man, hypocrisy is hypocrisy@marmyeater
@@brisco1997 Thanks for letting me know you didn't pay any attention to the lor! Goodbye, and have a good day!
@marmyeater my dude you can say it's weird fenrision nord magic but that doesn't make it true they use warp magic like every other psycher. That's the fun of 40k. Everyone is a bad guy including the space vikings who harbor mutants use warp power and hide behind superstition in direct opposition to the imperial truth. They're hypocrites that's okay relax.
4:21 I appreciate the censoring of the lost legions, very fun detail
I absolutely hate how the writers ditched the viking asthetic of the space-wolves, and opted for a more *'wolf'* aesthetic.
I bet they were paid by the furries.
On one hand thats pretty funny
On the other its sad because their viking aesthetic could've been expanded to much more than what it is
A Varangian Guard inspired successor chapter that sells mercenary and bodyguard services would go hard
Get real, they have been Space Wolves from the begining when in Rogue Trader there were only 12 Legions
I heard there was heresy, being broadcasted. I came as quick as i could. With inquisitorial clearance i assure you There are no wolves on fenrir.
(Pan fry your pork on a flat grill set to 475 pan sear both sides of your cut for about 2 min then bake at 550 for about 8-12 min using meat thermometer to reach 145. For 8oz cuts! Down the hatch.
I love that the wolves have personality and they are not ultramarines with other colour
@@sagasilverwolf5242 ya I’m hoping when they get a range refresh they keep their unique units. I’m actually a big fan of the Thunderwolf cavalry and wulfen, hoping they don’t just get axed for baby blue primaris
@KrakDuk they Just need reescale the miniatures and give us more Frost weapons
I love the tau tbh they seem pretty chill as long as you don’t disrupt the “greater good”
Respectfully man, their hate is deserved they are getting written as Matt ward era ultra marines only without anyone calling them out. They are the quirky ‘fun’ faction which is why people tolerate them but they are egregious for fans of literally anyone else. Just look at the Orks or even DA
i think an important thing to mention is they don't see the rune priests as psykers but in fact rune priests so to them they are two different things even though they are just psykers
edit: damn jumped that gun
