Always strive to be one hour early for pick-ups & drops. Don’t ever think you can drive a mile per minute, just cause it’s 30 miles doesn’t mean it takes 30 mins to get there.
here is what you need to do calculate how many hours bit will take to get to each distination then if it takes more that 10 hours and then add an additional 10 hours for each day it takes and you will then have the amount of time to get there plus you should add an extra amount of time just in case you need it because of detours or anything else.
Always double check with pick up & delivery sites before you get rolling! Sometimes brokers/shippers can cross their info. I make it a habit to call ahead for both to confirm POC’s, phone #’s, Alternate POC’s, delivery site hrs, locations and reconfirming everything!!!
Hey chant, don't let frustration get the best of you,I know I've been there.just keep on trucking it will get better.best of luck.will b on the road next y'r
Hey buddy, I spent 30 years on the road. You will get better at judging time as you go. Always, as you said, give yourself at least a hour or so. It's better to be a hour early than 5 minutes late. One other thing, when talking to a customer, pick up or delivery, tell them what you are picking up or delivering. It could make a huge difference to get loaded or unloaded sometimes.
I admire how you’re not scared to make mistakes & how you’ve learned to not lose your mind on the most frustrating situations. You know how to keep your cool 😎
Hey Chant, may I ask how you’re getting loads? I have all equipment and legal setup to start, just not sure on what direction to take with a load board, or a broker/logistics.
Chant, Question related to you giving up your snow removal business a few years ago. I'm kinda getting to the point where I am ready to move on and let my snow removal business go. What was the one thing that you felt was the most relief from giving it up?? Thanks
Great video! New ventures are always a steep learning curve. I’m sure behind the camera there was some serious frustration but you handled it well and it got delivered.
Elmers is a huge company. They do anything from excavating to paving, concrete, trucking, crane service, and snow plowing. They cover most of the northern half of Michigan of not farther. They have some cool videos on their TH-cam channel.
It’s a learning curve my friend…you will figure it out coz every load is different. A lot of the times it depends on the pickup..I know that’s being kind of a Dr. Obvious, but it’s as simple as that😅
Yea I would add on more time due to traffic or weather conditions the receiver is always happy when the load shows up early they get crabby when your late and if your going to be late communicate that to them as a former receiver at a company we always hatted it when the load was late or they didn’t bother to make an appointment at all
What's up I did the transportation business for 5 years and I lost my balls, Brokers make more money than you in that business , That industry sucks. Sorry But it's the truth And insurance companies Rip everyone off. 👍👊
I’m not in the hotshot industry. But Time is money. N so you should consider even the smallest factors in with time. *traffic *weather conditions *fuel stops/bathroom breaks *breakdowns/emergencies along the way
i usually give a 4 hour window 8-12 or 12-4 whatever, the same as the cable guys. its helped me out alot
